Back in the days of the USSR, I stayed at Intourist and Sputnik Hotels :) ... On every floor there was a "дежурная" where you could get a hot and sweet tea from the samovar. In the summer time there was kvass sold directly from a big tank truck in the streets and in the winter time you were able to buy this really creamy vanilla ice cream in the streets. Oh, I have some good memories of this time :)
@DailyBald3 жыл бұрын
Dezhurnayas are now a rarity although very very occasionaly you come across one. The kvas from big tank trucks still happen in Belarus and Transdniester in summer.
@matthiasendler72683 жыл бұрын
@@DailyBald my best memory was when we were celebrating New Year on Red Square in Moscow. That was in 1986/87. We stayed at Hotel Kosmos near ВДНХ at this time dezhurnayas were the norm... I also remember that my father and me did eat all the ice cream of the tour group which came as a desert after dinner and we were the only ones who didn't freeze outside afterwards. It was chilling -35°C :). All the best to you Benjamin! And thank you for all your nice travel vlogs, I really enjoy them!

Hi Benjamin, Thank you for your videos. I've been to Armenia too. It's really an amazing country with an outstanding culture and a lot of amazing people living there. If you ever come back to visit it again, please consider visiting Jermuk. I think you'd like it since it has several abandoned Soviet sanatoriums, a cinema and other buildings, that definitely will fit your channel. Jermuk was (and probably still is) a famous mineral water, thermal bath and health resort in the USSR. And it still operates, so you may get a feel of its' everyday life back in the days.

@gloriousleader85343 жыл бұрын
I remember the Alashkert vs St. Jones game very well. It was very surprising for a debutant Armenian team to eliminate a Scottish team. Anyways, a few years later (I think it was back in 2018) Scotland striked back with Celtic not leaving any chances to Alashkert. As for the name "Alashkert", a lot of things in Armenia are named after places in Western Armenia, or nowadays Eastern Turkey. Alashkerk was -and still is- a city, albeit nowadays no Armenians live there. Many Armenians from the cities near Sevan lake are the descendants of Armenians living in Alashkert.
