So my favourite moment in Re-Animator is when Dan is having his meltdown in the pathology lab and Herbert goes "DAAAAAN" in the tone of a small child pleading with a parent. He *says* 'help me with this, we can bring him back to life' but he *means* 'help me with this, I can't lift this body onto the table myself'. And I think that's beautiful. I fuckin love Herbert.

I took a class back in the early 2000s called "American Gothic." We studied horror literature from the last 100 years and every week, the professor would book one of the auditoriums and screen a movie for us on Friday that was more or less based on the readings for the week. It was entirely optional to do, but everyone went and brought friends since it was open to the public. We watched Interview with the Vampire, American Gothic, and this amazing gem of a film. I'd already seen it, but I invited a bunch of friends to watch it since they'd never even heard of it. Listening to a room full of newbies reacting to this is one of my fondest memories of college.

I liked Jeffery Combs in the movie Frighteners, he and the other cast members were the best part of that movie. The original Lovecraft story is my favorite of the author's work and I like aspects of that story better than what they did in movie. The Dr. Hill character was based on the character, Major Sir Eric Moreland Clapham-Lee, who in the original story was decapitated in an accident and is reanimated by West and then goes on to command an army of reanimated zombies. I like the idea that Clapham-Lee has a wax head mounted on top of his neck stump to simulate a real head and a special contraption connected to the base of his neck with hose connected to a suitcase with his real head that he has to carry around with him. I thought that was very imaginative.
