The latest purchase- 1 litre 2015 ford focus ecoboost. These are known for constant issues with the wet belt.

I've got one of these, it's been a fantastic car for 8 years and no issues yet. Since it's not worth much I might just have to keep it till it conks out.

I hope you dont have any problems. It seems if you have it regularly serviced should be okay and use the correct oils.
@pjay3028
@pjay3028 Ай бұрын
When they did the oil pump they must surely have changed both belts? Can you find out? Also make sure they used oil that has the WSS-M2C948-B specification. If not then get an oil change immediately and put that stuff in. Castrol 0W20 Magnatec is what Ford uses but it must be WSS-M2C948-B because that's compatible with the wet belts. If you use that at every service, that engine should easily last another 10 years/100k miles. That's a great buy. The reason people have problems is because they use the wrong oil and it eats the belts. The facelift cars shouldn't have any of the cooling issues of the earlier car either, so you've got a lovely car there.
@sbrader97
@sbrader97 18 күн бұрын
The degas hose is fixed on the facelift but there are other hoses that can leak the turbo coolant pipe rusts on some cars it seems certain ones in production must have used a different metal that rusts easier and that's built into the turbo so u cant just replace the pipe easily. I owned a 2015 facelift and the heater matrix pipe engine bay side was leaking coolant from there and the turbo pipe was rusty on mine but no leak then the wet belt went on it too expensive to fix it I suspect the wrong oil was used as you say so I got a replacement car instead of wasting money fixing it as everything kept going wrong at once on that car gearbox was also noisy in 1st and 2nd gear I've now lost all faith in buying another Ford and theres also no hope for modern Peugeot Citroen and more recently Vauxhall models all doomed with the same wet belt in the 1.2 puretech engine rules out so many good cars ruined by crap petrol engines

Exactly, I had a 13 plate ecoboost fiesta serviced every year with the correct oil. Had that car for 9 years before upgrading to a MHEV fiesta. Not a single problem with it.

Ive seen several cars online with over 100k miles so they can last but just lots of horror stories but suppose most cars have some weaknesses! Had to replace the battery and thats it so far

Maybe you can turn it round quick.. but if it's got a spotty service history? And getting over 60k I would look at the wet belt change.. the weird thing is they had the oil pump re done which you would think they would do the wet belt at the same time? I guess not.. but like a cambelt 60-70k so it's due..most buyers look at mileage and have no clue about this engine.. so cleaned up it will go.. if the wet belt was changed though. Then things would be better
@tonyc2837

Surely if they’ve replaced the oil pump they’ve changed the two wet belts at the same time. I’d try to contact either the previous owner or the garage that replaced the oil pump to ask the question.
@michaelc6325

@@tonyc2837they have obviously just replaced the oil pump. The belts will need changing straight away.900 quid by a good independent specialist.the old oil pump must have been damaged by the degrading belts.

Only an employee would say that, the ecotech engine has design flaws, and some would say it’s designed to fail
@Philip---pip267
@Philip---pip267 6 күн бұрын
I'm certain, designed to fail. I'm the past owner of the peugeot equivalent, the Prince engine in a 207 from 2007. Total hell to own, then , after 12 years and 24000 miles, scrapped due to wet belt failure. And it worked. They got me to replace it with a hyundai ioniq electric. 5 years of blissful motoring, and I'm happy to take my chance on charging and battery issues. I've totally gone off the combustion engine for life.

@JohnsMotoring yes 2,the the last one, a Mk3.5, had it 8 years, same colour as the 1 in this video, a 1 litre Titanium X, great car, no real issues. Traded for a Mk4.5 last year 1 litre ST line X. No issues so far but only had it 8 months. Always serviced regularly, usually at main dealers. Both cars bought nearly new, under a year old.

So you will need a new engine. Can you change it yourself? They seem to be about £1500 ish. But a lot of bits to change. You need to buy one with total service history for Ford to take on the problem. This car just has scrap value. Very strange buy?

@JohnsMotoring problem with these are oil gets contaminated with bits and bits of wet belt too . And oil pick up in sump gets clogs up. Exhaust off and sump then clean pick up mesh and same time check wet belt for condition

If you retail that and the belt/engine goes within a couple of months, would you be liable for fixing it? If so, that seems like a crazy financial risk (Ok, just heard you are renting it)

Because the oil breaks down the rubber timing belt causing rubber pieces to clog the oil pump. Either the timing belt will break, or the oil pump will get clogged. Either way you can kiss goodbye to the engine

Despite the wet belt design the 1.0 litre models are super popular with great economy and just £20 annual road tax. Pro advice says it’s best to change the wet belt before it hits 100k miles or 10 years, average garage price around £1700…

Yes indeed. Specially made to fail I'm convinced also. My peugeot 207 had the same issues if not worse. It became scrap thanks to the wet belt after 23000 miles. It was a nightmare from day one. Now I have an electric hyundai , my faith in the modern petrol engine has been totally destroyed. Happy to take a chance with charging issues and batteries. It will be to get us all electric, and then eventually out of cars altogether. Potholes, anyone?

Apart from the wet belt issue, the engine is a clever design. It accelerates really well, you generally don't feel any difference. 45 mpg, £20 car tax and free entry to Ulez zones, so there's a lot going for it.
