The lack of follow up/"how they age" reviews is a huge Blindspot in the tech reviewer circles. Certain androids age way better than others and now that upgrade cycles are longer and specs stay relevant for longer, this is hugely important. Bravo; keep it up!

I like these kind of reviews a lot, it's really hard to see all the pros and cons at the beginning. I've been on Pixels since the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 6 Pro was my favorite phone for 6 months, then my wife and I both had issues with them. Mine got stuck on the bootloader and seemingly corrupted the drive. I exchanged mine for another one, that was fine just slower. Then her screen went out. We paid them off and exchanged them for iPhones.

I really don't know why more companies don't just integrate the fingerprint reader on the power button or at least back of the phone. I'd much rather have the reader be in a mildly incontinent spot than for it to be slow every time you use it. If you can't incorporate under the screen readers well then you shouldn't incorporate them at all.

I've had my P6 since November, and while I have not experienced many of the large bugs I hear about on this device, I do have persistent little bugs and nuances that remind me that it isn't perfect. None of these issues have made me wish I had another phone, the user experience has been phenomenal and I will likely want a pixel 8 or 9 in a few years. I have gotten two days of battery life with my usage since launch, now about 7 months in I may get to 10% around 6-8 PM at night of day 2 verus going to bed with 15-20%. I do notice the high network drain, but I am on wifi 95% of most of my days, so its never been an issue. I am sure if I was traveling more I would notice it more frequently.

Hearing how many issues other users report having with the pixels, I count myself lucky. 😆 I pre-ordered my Pixel 6 Pro and it has been really good. 2 day battery life, reliable fingerprint unlock (albeit slower than the rear sensor on the pixel 3 that I ADORED), and I haven't had major bugs with the software performance. I'm also on wifi 90% of the time and haven't had issues with connection or wifi calling.

Thanks for the time going back and giving us your thoughts on this again. I've had a Pixel 6 since launch in UK and came from a Pixel 5. Also getting several bugs now. - Bluetooth music skip, yep get that. - Definitely missing the fingerprint sensor on the back from the 5. - auto brightness is so slow. If phone is in my pocket and I'm outside sunny day, (yes it does happen in the UK occasionally!). Phone rings, take out of pocket and will take a good 2 - 3 seconds (well feels like it) before I can see the screen to answer it. I can't remember the last time I had a phone that was that bad! - When using Google Maps for Sat Nav, this happens about 50% of time. I am currently using 3 button control (back, home, apps). After arriving at destination and pressing "done", the buttons don't always return which means your stuck in the the maps current screen. Screen off with power button and back on normally fixes this. On balance, I think it's the buggiest phone I've had in a long time. Only had Pixels (1, 3, 5 & 6), and Nexuses in the last 10 years.

I wanted to love Pixel again after using Samsungs for the past few years. I've had my pixel 6 pro since launch and it still has a lot of issues like this video mentioned. A new issue that has started in the past 2 weeks is that my always on display is vanishing at night when I turn the lights off and go to bed. I have my phone next to my bed with alarms set, and use it as a clock. It makes it hard to use as a clock when the screen is just black. Not only is it just black, it is unresponsive to tap to wake and lift to wake. The phone will ONLY come back on if I push the power button. My quick rundown of other issues: -wifi calling drops calls or doesn't start dialing at all -bluetooth randomly disconnects from earbuds and car -randomly will lose network connection, only showing an exclamation mark -sometimes the screen is just unresponsive when trying to wake it up, like it doesn't know my finger or anything is touching the screen -hold for me, i hit answer, the person on the other end sometimes can't hear me talking -sometimes speakers will make a crackle noise when sound starts from a video or game I'm sure this phone has done other stupid things, but these are just off the top of my head. Very disappointed in Google. This should have been their big moment getting back to the high-end.

Pixel phones are bad. I've been pre-ordering Pixel phones since the 1 came out in Oct 2016. All of them have been buggy, all of them have a battery that would start tanking if I even think about hovering my finger over Google Maps, all over heat, all of them but the current one have suddenly become unresponsive, the 3 left me stranded in the streets of Hanoi because it decided to turn itself off as I was navigating on my motorbike. This 6 will be my last Pixel phone... Constant disappointment since the 1.

I'm on the same boat I've had my P6P for a month. I've had it for a month, came from OnePlus 7T pro and I'm also on the beta program and haven't had many issues. Since being in the beta the only issue I've had is that I randomly got a weird iPhone notch at the top of my screen that caused me to do a factory reset to remove it. Also, even after I answer a text my notification still shows the text there and that's a little annoying. Again though I'm on beta so I should be experiencing things like this. The fact that I've only had these 2 bugs compared to others on Reddit who are and aren't on beta is a blessing

@Marques: 4:25 The reason for why the screen brightness is turned up when in a dark room and flashlight is turned on, is because of a light sensor embedded in the camera visor on the back, in the attempt to regulate screen brightness when there's a lot of ambient lighting not directly hitting the smartphone screen.

Really appreciate the follow up on these reviews!!! I would have to agree on all the cons that you have listed. Speaking for myself for someone who still has Pixel 2XL this review is almost and wouldn't want to bring down the performance of the Pixel 6 but seems like I have the same problem with my 2XL. I know it is a huge comparison to make for these two phones but a phone that continues to be "buggy", drops from 120Hz to 60Hz and the list goes on. Now for a person who still uses a 2XL that is insane for a customer of a Pixel 6 to experience these issues especially with a phone that exists in this day of age with the technology we have. My experience with the 2XL with the fingerprint is the same as Marques has experienced, it is laggy and seems like it almost takes some time to realize its your finger...that's kind of funny but exact same issue I have. Also camera wise... definitely needs some work maybe keeping up with software updates...As for Google this is a phone that has potential to be up top with the other phones that currently have taken its place! I really hope Google fixes these issues and look forward to what they can do and hope this is over done. I'm a big fan of the Pixel hope nothing but the best! Also love the work you put into these videos Marques hope nothing but the best for you man!

The phone is absolutely bad (compared to non budget phones) and anyone who says it isn't either doesn't use their phone much or are very lucky. And I'm the type of person who usually doesn't notice any issues with phones and rolls my eyes at people who do have issues 😂. I'm sticking with it because A) no other phone really tempts me right now (really into stock android 12, so sorry Samsung) and B) I think Google is using a LOT more ML than they are telling us, like for the auto brightness. If true then I expect these issues early on and I'm fine with being a beta tester in hopes that the next versions drastically improve.

Whenever you raise an issue, they shut it down, they are always useless in solving problems and helping people understand the risks and problems the phones they defend have. It's very troublesome and incredibly stupid. I mean, no one benefits, Google or Apple wouldn't pay you for defending whatever they do or sounding like their phones are without issues, some of the issues end up affecting hundreds of thousands of people

I’ve been a Pixel user since the 3 and as much as I love the phone and experience, I just can’t keep giving Google money for the quality of products they’re delivering. When incoming calls are coming and if your phone was full with notification bars, there was not possible to answer the incoming call, because you need to sweep away the notification bars on the screen to see the answer button, and when you finished there was a lock screen and when finally you opened your phone the call was gone.. I watch your videos regularly before purchasing a new phone, and sometimes even when I'm likely not going to and I want to thank you for the unique perspective and in depth information you give.. it's definitely stand out material... That said, last year I waited to replace my aging but really excellent Mate 20 Pro, it's a shame we cannot get them on Android in the US because that was a phenomenal phone. I was agonizing between the 6 and the S21, I don't like huge phones.. Ultimately I went Pixel 6 and the first few months were a little bumpy, January as you noted was really bad. The March update certainly was welcomed, and did a good job of resolving many of the issues I was having. I haven't really noticed some of the critiques you mentioned such as the auto dimming/brightness issue and considering the display is 90hz, I think it's very very good. I also don't have the problem. with the swiping sideways being laggy.. I actually checked after watching this review. In closing, I still think the 6 was the right choice. The stock Android, amazing photos, and overall positives outweigh the bumpy start and the few minor issues I have.. Granted I spent $599, not $899. The 6 is a lot of phone for $599, even now as we close in on 2023 I can't really find another phone I think I'd prefer, other than maybe the S21 still, simply because it's a different set of compromises but in the size I wish the 6 were.

I pre-ordered my 6 pro after years of loving my 3a xl and got it in mid October. Beyond the fantastic camera and cool new features, the bugs were abysmal. The worst for me by FAR was the thermal throttling, which had me reaching out to Google to no avail. My phone was lasting 5 hours on one charge. Finally, it seems the thermal throttling has been fixed or at least improved. The battery life feels much better, and I'm starting to finally enjoy this phone. One weird issue I've had since day one is the after pressing the power button to put the screen to sleep, if your finger touches the screen for even a millisecond, the phone unlocks in your pocket. Pretty dumb imo. I do feel more optimistic about the phone though, and I hope they continue fixing what should have been fixed before release. One simply cannot say Google didn't screw this up.

Google need to up their QA Team by 100 folds especially since they only to focus on a few device. Samsung that releases hundreds of models a year can do it, then Google should too. And also especially since Android is literally made and controlled by Google.

My Pixel 2 was one of the best phones I've had. Upgraded to Pixel 6 Pro and I regret it. My Pixel 6 Pro has always been shutting down every time I try the camera when it's cold outside. It's on and off, but usually when you're ready to capture a nice pic is when it shuts down.

I was very happy with my Pixel 6 for like 2 months. But then I started to hate how heavy and bulky it is and how buggy it gets, to the level that sometimes multiple apps don't work at all! I thought I was going to keep this as my main phone for a couple of years, but that probably won't happen.

Thanks for your thoughts/experiences. Just picked up the PIxel 6 (payments until the $600 is paid). I don't like fingerprint and auto brightness so I was glad to hear these were the larger complaints. Very happy that the transfer from an LG G7 ThinQ to Pixel 6 was fairy easy. All my data transferred and most of the apps. I would've stuck with LG because I like how customizable they were, user friendly, reliable, but are no longer being made and support for calling is running out. Here's hoping this one lasts more than 4 years (insert laugh track). All the best and God bless.

I got a new Pixel 6 Pro a few weeks ago. Right from the start i wasn’t impressed. The phone got quite hot with simple use like watching KZfaq or just charging, and the battery would just DRAIN. The last straw was when I went to work with a 100% battery and after an 8 hour shift with barely using it, my battery was at 30%. I brought it back (we have 2 weeks to return a device here in Canada) and got an iPhone 13 Pro Max (and I had always said I would NEVER get an iPhone). I am SOOOO glad I did this! I’m in love with my iPhone, it’s butter smooth, the battery is fantastic, the whole Apple ecosystem is incredibly cool (I got AirPods and AirTags since I got the phone 5 days ago) and the overall experience has been wholly positive! I had very high hopes for the pixel, and idk if I just had a lemon, but regardless, it was my first pixel and it pushed me out of android and onto iOS. Just my 2 cents.

This issue was first reported back in November from what I could find and it's still happening.

Being a user of Pixel 2XL I remember that video where Markus said "DON'T BUY THIS PHONE". But I decided to risk it back then and now, 3.5 years later, I can say that this has been the best smartphone experience I've ever had (Used to be a Sony user). Yes, it has some minor bugs but nothing serious that I could mention. It seems like the Pixel phones are really bad in first batches and you shouldn't really pre-order them. NEVER. I bought my 2XL a year later of it's launch so you tell me. It really is a time to change my 2XL to something newer but, man, I don't know what to do now. It seams like I should wait for another year to get a stable version of Pixel 7 😂

I was using a 2xl too, and I would buy it again if it had larger storage and modern specs. But I broke it last year and had to switched to a $200 range phone till last week and bought a pixel 6(not pro). Pixel 6 has been a major upgrade compared to both of those phones. I can hold it with a finger on the camera bump, almost like a ring pop. Bluetooth connection is faster and steady. The quick control in notification for home control and gpay is very convenient. The few things I wish Google woudl fix are... * Bring back the HDR toggle in the camera app - HDR is on by default, didn't find an option to turn it off. * Improve the fp reader - it is so bad that I've not been locking the phone as often as before, just so I don't have to deal with it. * Improve battery optimization - it heats up, not burning lv, but fairly warm, it's running games or camera with YT in the background, while doing the same thing on the 2xl wouldn't cause it to heat up.

Shit got weird after that, just look at how the bubbles are completely broken in the recent android versions.

Hi, I use the European version of the standard Pixel 6 because I live in Germany and I can only say that I absolutely love this phone! Of course, there was a major problem in the original December security patch which caused mobile connection issues and the January and February patch were delayed, but since Google delivered the March and April security patch punctually the phone has been completely bug-free, I have not experienced any of the problems you describe and the experience has been absolutely amazing.

As a music head, I seriously wish LG would get back in the game. I think they would really stand out now in the market with their expandable memory, headphone jack, quad dac, etc. That being said, I had to move on from my LG V50(which I love), since T-mobile shut down the Sprint network. My choices were either the S21 fe, or the Pixel6 Pro. I took a shot on the 6Pro, so we'll see how it goes. Either way, it was completely free to me so I can't lose. Worse case scenario, I'll rock it for 6-12mos and if I hate it, I'll just sell it and put it towards something else

I agree. I've had 3 Nexus phones, Pixel 3 & now Pixel 6pro. I had the P6P same experience (slow fingerprint, poor reception/ connectivity, bluetooth dropping, battery not lasting as long as expected, etc...) and have noticed the improvements with each update (fingerprint has significantly improved, bluetooth has improved). The camera and photos are amazing as usual & I love the UI/ layout. However this is a phone and being able to use it to make / receive calls is one of the main functions and at my home in a big city the signal is weak for all carriers. And this phone is still the weakest for connectivity with 5-10% dropped calls even with Wifi calling enabled. And recently the phone rang yet the icon to answer a call didn't even appear on the unlocked screen (it was ringing & I tried going into phone app but wound up calling back the 'missed call'). I debated on upgrading to P7P but in Canada the seasonal sale dropped price but the trade-in price for P6P was low which meant a substantial difference for another newly released phone. Thanks for returning & doing this video.
