I have a lot material things but, they don't bring true happiness.

I retired teaching in 2018. The biggest issue has been , at least in my state, they have reduced COLA and have raised health insurance premiums every year. I now take home $500 less than when I retired. Add the current inflationary situation and I am having to go back to work. I am looking into leaving the country but I have kids college to pay for.

Everything on this Earth was meant to be free but somewhere along the lines money changed everything. Its ironic that you can look at some 3rd world countries and the people are happy without having any luxuries. Yet you have people complaining here because the WIFI isnt working. Goes to show that happiness comes from within. I have friends who enjoy their jobs as electricians, plumbers, cdl drivers. They have no student loans and they enjoy their jobs. Its funny society will down on them because they don't have a degree and work in corporate jobs.

Honestly, I've felt this way for a long time. I'm 30 now btw, and I come to realize what is at all for? Is it for me or is it to please others. I do a lot of thinking and researching in terms of finance and life and getting to the superficial promise land seems like it's way too expensive. It blew the amount of money that needs to go out every month on a 30-year mortgage and have a nice car, and don't add kids to this mix. I suffer from depression, but I will say it's almost like my superpower because it has made me realize the important things in life. I say all that to say this to all the people that can relate. Do what makes you happy and the things will fall where they should no need to chase after things that have no meaning or value to you. I hope to have enough courage one day to sell all my things and move to another country. Salute to you ma'am.

My whole life I was raised so counterculture that I never had the American dream or any aspirations that were connected to what we see in the mainstream. In some ways this has been excellent and in other ways perhaps not as balanced since I had a large disregard for some structures that I still am required to Operate within. To continue in the vein of the video, It is absolutely incredible when leaving the states to see that one can live a good life without slaving for the corporations or " the man". I wish for everyone to realize and know what is possible in that regard.

@ChelseaSatine thank you. Same to you! Homeschooling isn't the greatest as far as my kids participating. They were against it, but at the sametime being that I worked in the school system. I know they weren't learning anything, and everyone fell behind because of 2020. Then there was one of the teachers saying one of my children at the time was only reading at grade level, which I knew wasn't true. My kids want to be with their friends that's the only reason they give me a hard time. Lol, it's a process. If I were the person that I am now back when they were younger, I would have never put my children in school at all.

Dude, yes. What you've said resonates with me on a deeper level. I can't talk to anyone about this because everyone is still so stuck within the machine. As soon as you start talking about how crazy we've made our lives with work, materialism, society, etc, they either think you crazy or just 'young and naive.' I worked a project management position for over 5 years. That environment is brutal. Plus, you're expected to put in more that 50 hours a week. If you add up the time you give to your employers versus the free time you have in any given year, it's super lopsided. It's all an illusion we've been sold on and just adds suffering to the majority of one's life. Living is about experiencing life. Not selling your dwindling time for fictitious paper. We have to do it though in order to survive. I just hope enough wake up so we can break free from our outdated illusions.

Colleges used to act as your second family and mentor but greed has taken over. I'm not opposed to a degree or a trade but you have to be careful not to acquire more loans than you can comfortably pay back. I know because I recently paid off $66,034 in a five year period. im tired of seeing these people thinking a 9_5 job is the end of the world, you should keep that job and use the money to create a healthy set of investments to live off of, you dont need friends, you dont need a house at 30, but you can invest in real estate and learn how to get rid of your biggest expense househacking even in NY, but learn to be financially free young, dont just quit your job and then start planning thats reckless

Sooooo true that A 9-5 job is not the end of the world, it's just not for everyone and that's okay. I'm so so grateful that I had a 9-5 job during my life time. I agree use discernment before quitting your job. That's what I share here on this channel. But All things considered, There are more ways to make money besides trading time at a 9-5. Property and land exist outside of America too. Everyone needs to define financially free for themselves. Financially free is relative.
@namastechelseaa

You can have financial literacy and read all the books 📚 and still be in the rat race. 🤷🏽‍♀️I'm 28 and no longer in the rat race, and a big part of that is, because I left America. I started designing my own dream. Let's not pretend that lack of education is the reason that so many of our people are suffering. It's the lack of means. Knowledge without application means nothing. Knowledge without an environment conducive to applying this knowledge is useless.

Real estate is only ONE type of investment and unfortunately real estate can keep a person trapped in a Country they no longer want to reside in. Buying a home is neither easy nor possible for a lot of individuals. Buying additional properties to rent out is not only less possible for most, but a headache all in itself with a ton of stressful factors. One makes their profits (market- dependant) only after they sell. Whereas index funds is another story. Easier, less stress, attainable, with trackable instant gratification if you're savvy to how they work. The Hubby and I are child-free and only earning/investing for our own lifetimes of enjoyment. We're not concerned with generational wealth or leaving legacies to others. If we choose to spend our lives leaving each person, place, or thing better than we found it..... that should be legacy enough. Ones soul is more important than ones portfolio.

Once you understand the system is designed to keep you in debt and that wages don't keep up with inflation, a whole new world opens up to you. I remember talking to a guy a few months back who said he was saving for a home. He said the condo he wanted was $188k and he was saving for the 20% deposit. However, about time he saved up for the deposit the home appreciated to $240k. He suddenly realized at this rate he'll never be able to afford a home. You have to own assets that appreciate along with inflation if you want to ever been financially free and don't want to work for the rest of your life. They don't teach you this stuff in high school.
