Aloha! In this video I go camping with my Evolve CT9 and harvest some reef fish. The conditions were pretty hazardous which made everything extremely challenging. Thankfully I got some amazing fish and got to hang out at a magical beach that I haven't been to in years!
Check out the Evolve website for the best 3 Prongs on the market!

Jason You are one hell of an athlete! Anyone who hasnt free dived from shore/rocks have no idea how exhausting it can be. Its not just holding your breath. Its climbing the cliff, swimming against tides and dodging the waves in and out without getting smashed against the rocks. The awesome thing is you eat like a king!! Im so jealous. You go shopping for certain fish. Love your videos!!! TY Randy

My family used to camp at Ka Lae (South Point) from 1965-1975, usually for 3-4 weeks at a time. Back then there was NOBODY around, ever, except for a few local ahi fishermen who had tiny boats tied up by what used to be a hoist on the cliffs. Locals never ever went in the water, and would freak out when my dad and I used to spearfish with Hawaiian slings. In all the years we went to Green Sand Beach, I don't think we saw a soul. Remember, this was back before everyone had 4WDs. There was not the network of "roads" you see now. To get to Green Sand, you hiked. There were no wind turbines. The lighthouse was wood. Japanese glass balls were still washing up regularly. (This is back when Hapuna has virtually empty, even on weekends.) I feel blessed to have had those unique experiences.

@@hawaiihammahs, beyond amazing. We were almost the only haoles living on a sugar plantation in O'okala (Hamakua coast). My dad and I spearfished on that side, and trust me, almost NO ONE was spearfishing there back then. We only knew of two other guys. Anyway, if you ask any of my 6 family members what is their most cherished memories of happy times, it was our epic camping trips to Ka Lae. I haven't been back there in 50 years, and honestly, I don't to; I don't want to ruin the glorious images in my mind. Love your channel, brother. I'm working my way through the entire collection.

Brooooo I’m just glad you made it back in safe!! Those were some gnarly waves. When all else fails, forget the gear and protect that life. No fear or fish is worth our lives. One strat I’ve used to find a lost mask and knife before was to drop it in the same area and watch where it goes. That’ll narrow the search area. Worked for me.

I live in Southern California, Orange County. We are known for Sandy Beaches and big waves, but I also grew up in Hawaii most of my Family from Big Island Kauai and Oahu. I learned to 3 prong from my Hawaii Family but I always seem to argue with Californians on when to put on fins. I see you and all my cousins including myself put fins on once out in a relatively safe area. Typically in Cali I make a mad rush to run past the first few waves then start duck diving until I past the wave break zone and once past I put my fins on. But Californian Dive instructors teach to put fins on the beach and they walk backwards into the surf, they all do it and always get knocked out like little penguins until the surf sucks them into the sea and then they start swimming around. I've seen groups of them get tired just trying to fight the waves and have to take breaks just to make it for first time past the wave zone. AM I the only one that sees that as insane or does that make any sense to you? BTW they think I am nuts for not putting my fins on because "How am I supposed to swim fast past the waves?" Because I run and duck dive? Anyways all Cali dive schools teach it and I just see it as more dangerous.
@hawaiihammahs
@hawaiihammahs Ай бұрын
Even though there getting pounded out trying to get out, I think it might be a little easier for them because holding your fins and swimming out can be challenging for a beginner. Same as putting your fins on in the water but that description you gave sounds funny lol

hi Jason, enjoying all your videos past and present I had ask you if you could cook fish for hobbyists I think they allow it again. I asked you before and I did some research. I see all the beautiful fish in your videos that I’ve had my aquarium. The tanks were black and orange. They actually sell them in some countries by the pound to eat $4.99 a pound . And they wouldn’t let Harvest take them, so I think they change the rules.

How is the Evolve Aftershock pole spear? Is it much heavier than the CT9? Im on a budget and the Aftershock is almost $100 cheaper.

Shoot I’ve actually never tried it lol. Once I got my CT9 that was it. Although it did take me a while to get used to 9’. But I’ll get an aftershock and test it out in a future video. Garens it bangs hard though 🔥
