That tattoo is absolutely beautiful. Even if I don't know the meaning I can tell it's very precious to you because you got it as a tattoo, I'm personally scared of pain and needles so I will probably never get at tattoo but I'm happy you did and went through that process and I hope your happy with the design you have! ☺

I have 3 tattoos and I can't wait to get more to express what is important to me. I have an Egyptian one, a leprechaun because that's what my mother-in-law used to call me and a skull with butterflies to signify life from death.
@Serasesera

You think the pain is WAY worse than it really is. If you find a good artist, they'll be willing to do a dry run of sorts, just a few passes without ink to give you an idea of where it falls on your personal pain scale. For me both the sensation and the sound of the machine is super soothing and relaxing so it's not a issue for me, but I'd warn anyone new to avoid taking breaks unless your artist needs one for their hands/heath ect. Stopping snaps you out of the rhythm and gives your body a chance to mount a big response.

@@Serasesera for me the tattoo gun sound reminds me that it's gonna sound worse than it feels. I feel like it gets worse as it goes, but it's more... annoying than painful. Like Socks said, it depends on the area. For example, the armpit area (which is where Aki got part of hers) is so painful that some tattoo artists prefer not to tattoo their clients there and sometimes advise against it. The only other places as painful as the armpit area are the rib cage, ankles, shins, nipples and breasts.

It’s heartwarming to know that it’s related to something you enjoy to reflect on from your own childhood, and i admire the fact that you have gotten a tattoo in Japan. I have a bunch of giant and colorful game and anime tattoos and I'm not ashamed of them. I probably wouldn't be able to live normally in Japan (not that I want to). As tourists I don't think we have anything to be worried about...I also don't think they'd care as much if you're foreign looking anyway? Aki's new tattoo looks so beautiful! Such a stunning tattoo! She did an amazing job, Aki. If I ever get to Japan (my Son was supposed to take me, but he quit his job and is using the savings for a house) I'll definitely go there. Tattoos for me take away the crippling back pain and I get an adrenaline rush whenever I get tattooed. If I wasn't on disability, I'd probably have full sleeves by now. It's expensive to get the best tattoo artist design and do the tattoo; but so worth it. My father was dead set against tattoos so not long after he died, I was getting a memorial tattoo. I hope wherever he is, he approves of it. 😉

They would let you in! They have special patches to cover them. But yeah, some of them won't let you in, even with a patch. Absolutely beautiful tattoos, both of them. As someone who got almost my entire back tattoo this summer, i can relate to Aki's pain. I personally had 2 giant sakura branch "wings" tattooed on each side of my spin, going all the way down to my lower back. When the artist got closer to my spin, i swear to god i could have cussed so badly, but i also just had to enter a place of zen like Aki, where you dont say anything, you dont move, you just consentrate on your breathing, its the only way you can get through it, because that shit hurts! But the result is so beautiful.. I got my branches as a reminder that life is short, and that we need to remember to live it to the fullest, and even tho its sad sometimes, life got so much beauty in it. Getting that tattoo as a tribute to your mom is so wonderful. I love tattoos who has a meaning, and isnt just a "Oh i thought it looked cool".

Omg. I also got a tattoo at studio muscat when I was staying in Japan. And it’s the best tattoo with the most detailed and best lasting colors I have. They are amazing

Theres something about getting a tattoo, especially the long sessions where you start and its like "okay this hurts, but i can ignore it" and then maybe an hour in "Oh its not really hurting anymore, its just uncomfortable" and thats mostly cos your adrenaline is coursing through you. Maybe 3 hours in, sometimes sooner depending on how you feel on the day "OH GOD THIS HURTS AGAIN". And if youre sitting up for your tattoo, in that 2-3 hour mark "man, i never realised how uncomfortable my own butt is". Having said that i love all my tattoos, so i dont regret a thing.

i'm way too chicken to get something permanent on my body (that isn't natural; i have lotsa freckles and a few scars but i'm fine w/ those) but like,,,,, i love seeing people getting tattoos done and seeing the end result a few family members and a few friends have tattoos and i cheer them on bc that's such a big decision to make

Oh yeah, the shoulder area is definitely painful. I have butterfly wings on my back and the right side hurt far more than the left. It was literally like a hot knife through butter. Worth the pain though.
