Grief is a powerful teacher... This week, I share what I'm going through behind the camera lens, hike a slot canyon, and make a big travel decision... It's time to leave the desert.
I love you. Hug someone you love.

Ah Alyssa, as we age grief becomes a constant companion. I’ve lost both my parents, my husband, my daughter, my cousin, close friends. A long terrible list, but we will all die. I like to think I have loved ones waiting for me. And one important thing is it helps us let go of believing we are omnipotent. We aren’t. Every day is a gift, and they slip through our fingers faster and faster.

Hi Lyss. I am so sorry for your loss. I to have had to deal with alot of grief. I lost my whole family and its been absolutely heartbreaking. Grief is one of the hardest parts of life that's very difficult to deal with. The pain never goes, you just try your hardest to live through it night and day. It's always there in your mind. I'm not afraid to say, that I cry through heartbreak, but it does help to release that anger etc. I hope your ok. I have some idea of what your feeling inside. Please take care. Your videos are great. Your awesome young lady.. God bless you Lyss. ❤ 🙏🙏

My self and my two brothers had to make a decision with our dad. He had reached a point in his cancer that he was alive but not living. When his doctors asked us to make a decision with his life support....... making that decision wasn't the hard part, the hard part was knowing we had to. As we stood by his bed , the last words I ever spoke to my dad was, " its time to get up or go home." I looked over to the nurse and gave her a nod as did my two brothers and she turned off his machine and 15 minutes later my daddy went home. Its been 6 years roughly now, I miss him every single day. There was no grief, there was no sorrow. There was no remorse . We are all born to die. We had a good life with our dad just as he did with us and others. We are all born to die. its how we live that matters. We get to keep our memories. And I cherish every single one of them I have of my dad and for those who have also died that had value to my life. My point Lyss is live every day like it is your last day and leave memories to those who you wish to and what it is that you want them to remember because the reality is that at some point, that is all they will have. ( yes I have kept material things of my fathers but its not him.) I do not need those things to remind me of the man he was to me. I don't stand over his tools and think about him or how he used them or what he even did with them, because that's all they are ...tools. what i think about was the houses we built or the camping and fishing or hunting trips we went on. The day he took my training wheels of my bike and pushed me across the yard before letting me go. drawing me the wiring sequence to my club house so I could put in in correctly. Material possesions of lost loved ones will never replace memories of them, keep sakes are fine but can also be misplaced, lost or stolen. Memories cant, no one can take them from you. Your true reminders are in your head and your heart. They are always with you .

@@JW-jl8iq People think saying " Sorry for your loss " is what is appropriate for that moment. I hated when people said or say that to me. My dads death was not a loss to me. He was alive but he wasn't living. And now, well Now he is. and I am sure he is fishing somewhere in Heaven, catching monster fish. How could I ever allow for that to become a loss to me. ? He can breath without a machine. He can walk without a scooter. He is alive and living. Its just not with me. But someday, Someday him and I will go fishing together and it will be as if no time has ever passed. I hope that for your dad as well. That he is happy, alive and living and a far better place than we are. And when your day comes he will be there waiting for you.

So sorry for the loss of your friend. Thing to remember though is when you lose someone close to you they really aren't truly gone. I watched every single video. I am impressed with the willingness to stray from the traditional expected path. I am by most metrics successful, but lacking the enjoyment of all that is around us, that can be unseen when looking through a narrow vision of life, and what success should traditionally look like. Inspiring, and inspired to widen the lense and see what's already there, that is unseen. This is not the content I usually view, but am enjoying this more than anything to this point. In just one video I learned so much from you and about you. Traveling is an education in itself. Meeting people and talking to them about any thing. Just on a whim I asked a young lady if she wanted to have lunch and she said yes. It was so nice and after we went on our way. I met a couple in Glacier National Park. They asked me to have dinner with them and then they new my brother in law from Vermont. Great video and sorry for your loss. Keep traveling, David

I am sorry to hear of your loss. Grief is powerfully life changing. We need to choose how we grieve. Remembering one ultimate thing, the people we love that pass before us would not want us to be sad for ever: but to remember what they brought to our lives. Good to see you smile again.

Hey, stay strong, try to take into account that you knew that person, you probably had nice moments, and in an eternity we cant grasp its something precious and powerful enough to make us happy and move on. Good luck on your way!

I just found your channel today. The day after the anniversary of my Mothers passing. It feels like she gifted me your channel. I live with a chronic illness that often leaves me bed bound. And Nature is my happy place but my illness unfortunately keeps me from being able to do the things I want to do. Watching just two videos of yours by now my Soul feel sparked alive as if I was able to be in nature and listening to your heartfelt wisdom also lifted my Spirits. Youre a magical being, I can tell. Thank you for healing the world simply by being you !

Alyssa, I agree wholeheartedly with your comments about grief. Take care, as you clearly are doing. You have become a very balanced person, not that you don't struggle ..... we all do. ❤

Sorry for your loss. Grief and Loss have been two of my life long travel "companions"; more so now that I'm at that age where I always seem to be going to funerals rather than baptisms. It might sound like a cliché, but this too shall pass. Take the time to grieve, it's far healthier to face the grief and push through it, than to bury it.

I love how Rio shows her expressions so much. I will never get over her look when you sold Lucky. SHe was so bummed. But it was adorable.
