11:20 if the graphical issues you’re experiencing is the diplomacy screen having a weird flicker over the other ruler that’s not a you issue that’s a bug. It even happened on the devs live stream of the expansion.

First time I managed to beat 2 full armies with only one of mine at early game with no damage on my team at all. Tentacles are OP alongside mind control and insanity. It blew my mind how different the game felt but in a good way compared to the previous Dlcs where I had to learn the game again but it wasn't fun. It felt like I did everything wrong. Here I feel in control (literally) with those new control spells and it feels great from the start. At first, I feared the umbral abyss would end up like a chore, having to deal with damage every turn and no regen. But troops are more durable now and you have solutions for it easily without the need for a specific trait or having to prepare for it first. You just go there, fight stuff, grab the juicy rewards and explore new shortcuts to the surface. It feels more like mini dungeons rather than just another underworld. Really well put together. Adds a lot of chaos the way you travel the map now.

The funny thing about the stone spirit units is that their actually a bit nerfed from AoW3 because in that game the upgraded versions could stun you instead of pinning you.

I still feel like this game could be so much more. It's a good game, maybe even great in some ways, but I feel like it still has design flaws, and multiplayer isn't as smooth or enjoyable as it could be. But I'm glad Potato is playing it.

Yeah. It's the sort of thing where it's pretty amazing for what it does. not many other games compare in sheer customization potential. But that potential just makes you wish for more depth and consequence to each choice. Personally I want them to focus on making playthroughs with existing cultures more interesting. Wonders could be much more interesting. Multi stage quests with bigger rewards.

Just wondering why there is a big skip at 2:20:06, makes the video kinda hard to follow since you seem to have jumped ahead a dozen or so turns, maybe more? It makes the video very disjointed.

It jumps back at 2:44:53 , so the correct order should be to skip to 2:44:53 when you get to 2:20:06 and then at the end of the video hop back to 2:20:06 .

I noticed youre consistently worrying about your city stability. Dark cultures suffer no city stability penalties, except province rebellion - and you have a special structure to prevent that too.

this is gonna be an unpopular take but... aside from the race mechanic I think AOW4 is a straight downgrade from 3 and planetfall.

AoW4, unfortunately, suffers from things being too universal, despite the focus on affinities, which isn't helped by how many options are bad. Also enchantment stacking for damage is still way too effective, those enchantments need to take away more of the base damage imo.

The factions and lore in this game are so generic. It's like LOTR with Orc angels, Elven miners in mountain fortresses, and Sauron, the good knight. It is funny for a minute until it is just meh

The game is modular. You are supposed to do the lore yourself, this is a sandbox, not a funnel. Just like rimworld or others. They give you tools so that you make the story.

It’s frustrating because Age of Wonders actually has a lot of lore, but in this entry it’s been almost entirely abandoned outside of premade rulers and the story maps (And even then there’s been retcons to better match the more generic feel of everything) Like swapping out the original Spheres of Magic (Fire, Water, Air, Earth, Life, and Death) for the Affinity system which is just Magic the Gathering’s color system with Colorless/Artifact as Materium Like they brought back the Shadow Realm but changed the name to Umbral Abyss cause it’d be too confusing with Shadow affinity. And they swapped its old Deep-Sea like appearance for Lovecraftian tentacles

My guy every high fantasy thing is like LOTR. LOTR is the basis of the genre. That being said the idea of this game is to make your own stories and background and the lore is just builidng blocks hence why it is so basic. The idea is that due to its lack of detail it can be adapted to fit the needs of the user

Yea, they sacrificed the premade lore and stuff to freedom and customization. It have it's own ups and downs but, looks like, people like it more. For me it's so-so. I miss old "premade" maps and story missions, but now i can build any faction i want and roleplay everything (any faction from LOTR or any faction from WH e.t.c).
