As someone who is passively affected by the layoffs in the form of no openings, skill building and networking are some of the most important things one can do to strengthten yourself during this gap period. Makes complete sense from your views about it! 💯

I'm an 85 year old retired aerospace engineer and a parent and grandparent. The core reason that a business hires talent is that businesses encounter serious problems all the time. Thus they need to hire very good problem resolution folks. Folks who can spot problems early on, who can apply solutions in a timely manner, get the cooperation needed to implement solutions, etc., etc. That means that you have a network of people who Trust you and LIKE you. That requires that you are genuinely humble, grateful, Supportive Of Others, calm. That's on top of needing to be qualified, smart, insightful, quick, experienced. Everything else is just details.

You are a real engineer and coming from that point of view. Most jobs today are there because some executive decided to start a fancy project to put on his resume and hires a bunch of people and it finally goes nowhere. These are called bullshit jobs (for real, pls look it up on youtube) and have no real meaning or purpose. You are kicked out when that guy leaves or the project is shelved

Thanks for this comment. I have been laid off by my company too and I am really scared to apply for the new jobs simply because I feel like I have forgotten all the skills I have mentioned in my resume since I didn't need them for this job. So I was thinking about just refreshing everything before I jump in the application process. But having seen this comment makes me feel like my non technical experience at the company has more value. I'm still scared of applying lol but at least I'll have this in the back of my mind now.

I too think that if you perform well, your team starts respecting you and starts taking you seriously. I joined as a fresher in a company but I think I was pretty good at what I was doing I'm saying this because I developed one of the very difficult and crucial functionalities which was the MOAT of that application that too from scratch. But the down side was that they started giving me more and more work which in reality was not bad but the deadlines was so much unrealistic that I burned out. I didn't counted the clean up and refactoring I needed to do to the other's code in my team. And the hours and hours of meetings. Man it was exhausting.

Toxic work culture, Office politics is and will be 'forever normal' in Indian companies. Therefore I don't give my 100% even if I could, because the learning phase should be limited to the first two-three years from starting your career, after that, if the company appreciated you in both financial and professional way then only 100%. So it's quite a different perspective from my side.

Here is some advice: Don’t take advice from someone who got laid off. Ive never been laid off and Ive seen so many people get laid off. There is a type of person that they look for when lay offs come around. There is a reason why they select the people they do. They shouldn’t be giving advice.

Gawar admi. Pehli baat ye ki iss username ke sath let's forget about layoff tu hire bhi ni hoga. Dusri ye jab tu ye bakwas pel raha tab tak is bandi aur iske team ne worldwide services on kar diye and that too a successful one. Tessri baat gawar to ho tum qki layoff performance ke sath sath economic recession and operations based hota yani ki agar us business unit ya project ka need ni hai to wo band kiya jata. Fourth, you hardly know anything about performance so let's leave it. Definitely an underperformer, ek document ni likha jayega tumse and yaha comment kar rahe. Sixth try being a better person maybe you might end up getting a job. Seventh layoff is not the end of world or a stamp on someone. Get over your slave bootlicking ideology. Eight whatever you say I DON'T GIVE A FUCKING CARE! NINTH BOOOBOOO BOOO HOOOOO. USELESS MAN.
@Termintor1
@Termintor1 8 ай бұрын
@@Ranjitha_Ganesh Yeah but they don't randomly layoff people without thinking about performance, which is measured on several different levels. I guess you can say what you like and I can say what I like but the reality remains, that I have never been fired ("laid-off") and I survived the layoffs and my company and found a new upgraded job in a company that was laying off staff. There is a reason for that. Put yourself in a position so that it is impossible (or outright stupid) for a company to let you go. Looking at your position in the company makes it impossible for someone to even suggest getting rid of you and if your position is no longer required, then you will be repositioned in the company. You don't willingly let good people go. People say, oh you're just a number on a list. Whatever makes people feel good about it, is fine, but make no mistake, it is very carefully calculated who to get rid of.
