It's funny you should say that about a Pokemon game, I'm just completely clueless about cartridges but one day I went to play my Pokemon Emerald (actual products for me only thank you) only to find all the progress wiped (goodbye OP team of lvl 100's). So if cartridges do have batteries that is what I am assuming has happened to mine.
