The Chinese influence in the Juba round has probably to do with the fact that China is heavily investing in African countries. Those people probably are Chinese workers and live temporary in that building the photo is taken from. The supermarket is also for them, that is why it is all written in Chinese.

18:26 Finally a Bulgarian round, I've been waiting for this moment. Also, It's not Russian, but rather Bulgarian. In fact, the Bulgarian brothers Kiril and Metodiy created the cyrillic alphabet (it's named after one of the brothers) in the late 9th century. Since then, many slavic countries have been using a modified version of it. Including Russia.
@Razaak666
@Razaak666 2 жыл бұрын
Is that definitely the earliest documenting of Cyrillic? I believe it's been speculated (although never proven) that the Cyrillic alphabet has existed earlier. Considering how closely Cyrillic resembles the Greek alphabet, it would make sense that it did originate in the south of Europe.
@hex_6590
@hex_6590 2 жыл бұрын
@@Razaak666 Yep, it is as far as I know. Cyril and Methodius were born in Thessalonica, in the eastern Roman empire. The eastern Roman empire influenced Bulgaria (and the Balkans in general) in many ways, most famously for the conversion to orthodox christianity. Bulgarian nobles even learned greek. No wonder Cyril and Methodius were influenced by the greek alphabet. Though their creation was the glagolithic alphabet. Then, their disciples, Kliment and Naum further worked on it and developed the early cyrillic alphabet in Bulgaria which had even more similarities with the greek one.
@bakapotato5327
@bakapotato5327 2 жыл бұрын
@@Razaak666 Lets put it this way the original Glagolitic script was created by Cyril and Methodius who were sent to Moravia when Rastislav of Moravia requested teachers from the Eastern Roman empire who would be able to educate the moravian priest while using the slavic language. Thats why the brothers created the Glagolitic script. Later on the students of the brothers who were expelled from Moravia reached Bulgaria where they were greeted by Boris I and were put to the task of educating the Bulgarian clergy thus allowing us to conduct the religious ceremonies in our language and not Greek like it was done before. During that time two of the students, Kliment and Naum finalized the first version of the Cyrillic script. The reason the Glagolitic script was replaced was because it was a lot more complicated then the Cyrillic script. And the Cyrillic was adopted by most slavic nations. But it has to be kept in mind that every nation had its own version of the proto slavic language even before the new alphabets were created. TLDR. it looks Greek because it was made by two "Greek" linguists.

@thewiseturtle
@thewiseturtle 2 жыл бұрын
@@Itza-Me The autistic brain is the one that is hyper detail oriented and focused on code. It's why we have brilliant mathematicians and linguists and programmers and engineers, because they really love studying the detailed patterns of basic systems, especially artificial ones (human made stuff). All kids are great at learning alphabets, at very low levels of consciousness, as the very young brain is very open to everything like a blank slate (with obvious genetic variations), but as adults, some brains love to study such things more intentionally at higher levels of consciousness to make theories about the patterns. Also, note that folks in the autism corner of the multidimensional spectrum of brain types are very common, maybe up to 1/3 of humans. Very few are ever labeled as "having autism" as that tends to feel extreme, as compared to the more normal level of geekiness of those who just like to focus on studying small details in systems (especially artificial ones).

Though if you're just learning the Cyrillic alphabet and not a language, you can only "transliterate" it, not "translate" it. So that reads as "Bul knyaginya Mariya Luiza"-the "princess" part would be totally lost on you. Fortunately there are many words in common with English so you can sometimes guess a few words, and personal names are usually spelled just like they're pronounced.

I do a decent amount of country streaks so I can figure out the countries (and on this map, cities) pretty easily. But how you manage to get the spot IN the city so close always boggles my mind. good job tom

Don't worry, I misread "Juba" as "Jakarta" and was very confused as well. Nevertheless a fun round as always! I think it could be feasible for you to get familiarised with the cyrillic alphabet a bit, considering the huge amount of possible locations on the map that it is used in. Don't worry, it's not as hard as other scripts 😉

Not really copied. It was meant to be an alphabet for slavs all around eastern Europe. It's just that Russia is more known to foreigners and so they think "russian" when they see cyrillic letters.

Got 24,998 points in 19 minutes. R2 was the only one i didn't find but i actually guessed on the same road somehow, it was kinda random, just guessed on a road that seemed plausible and ended up only losing 2 points. R1 - was a bit tricky because Colombo 11 didn't show up on the map, was confused for a while, but zooming in on the part where it made sense for it to be on, the road was pretty visible without needing to zoom in much. Then it was just using the JDM textiles to pinpoint. R3 - is pretty straight forward as soon as you manage to read the sign if you know where Juba is. Somehow guessed on the wrong side of the road but still got 5k R4 - the flag looked Russian to me but it made no sense because it didn't look like Russia at all plus EU plates. After a while i realized my mistake and started zooming on roads that seemed like it could be the one that we could see the name of and i actually found it on like the second or third street i zoomed on. Then it was just pinpointing using the barbershop. R5 - Pretty straighforward 5k

The 3rd round was terrible because I clicked somewhere in Vietnam, not even in the capital because I didnt relise to play it. In my last round i thought were in Bosnia because of the flag, but then clicked it right on Saint Lucia. Only got 19.986 points becaue of Vietnam. Love your content, keep it up : >
