I unbox my new Eastman T486 Goldburst thinline ES 335 electric guitar copy, dial in the action over a period of four weeks and give it a sound test.

I bought mine 2-ish years ago. Also in Tobacco burst. Easily my favorite guitar. I have an American Tele and an American Jazzmaster, both circa 2005. Brilliant axe!!

If it were me, I would start from scratch and give the guitar a proper set up following the normal set up procedure start to finish. Every guitar and player deserves a good thorough set up.

Hi Robert, that’s a good idea! The action is high on this guitar I think. I need to find my string action gauge and Google the setup specs for Gibson 335.

I have one. Mine had none of those set up issues. Its my favorite guitar, including my few Americans.

Glad to hear that. I have struggled with mine and prefer playing my old Samick Artist Les Paul copy. The Eastman ebony fretboards feels bigger and more unforgiving than other electrics. I need to take it for a setup with my luthier I guess. Am also considering swapping the magnets to A2.

Don't forget these are shipped from China, so the final set up should have been done by the selling shop. It can be set up perfect before it travel over the ocean and weather changes. So the selling distributor should do a final setup review and address any changes that occurred during shipment. Not a mfg issue

I agree. I went easy on The Acoustic Centre, a high end shop in Melbourne, where ordered this guitar. They sent it to me in that condition.

Hi Macmax, I will check for you. Since I recorded this I raised both humbuckers a little bit. Just to look at them they seemed a bit low. To be honest I think this guitar missed a setup at the factory! But it sounds good.

How was your jack socket? Mine was quite loose out of the case. The bridge pick-up was a little bit also.

Hi Michael, I can’t ping Eastman for loose Jack socket on my one. The pickups also were properly attached. However your little issues and mine perhaps add up to a lack of attention to detail/carelessness by Eastman in getting these guitars out the door. I discussed this with my local music shop (here in SydneyAustralia) who said they don’t carry Eastman because they don’t have an Australian distributor. So the guitars would come direct from Eastman in China. Gibson on the other hand have an Australian distributor who does a second check and setup on all their guitars. The Gibson ES335 they had in stock was beautifully set up and really nice neck and feel. But I guess that’s one of the reasons you pay more; A$2000 for the Eastman, $5000 plus for the Gibson. And my Eastman does sound good! Regards, Nick

They are very nice, but with the Gibson you get a guitar checked and set up by the Australian distributor. But they are double the price or more. With the Eastie, I do want to swap the magnets in the Seymour Duncans. They are alnico 5. I want to try Alnico 2.
