@horrorandgames5 жыл бұрын
There's a big difference between a great musician and a great lyricist. In my opinion, John Mayer is both. He knows how to write a catchy song in terms of a melody, guitar, etc, and that's great. I've loved and will always love him for that. However, this song is an example of what makes John Mayer an outstanding artist. The lyrics are what makes this song, like many of his songs, so resonant. The lyrics and deep and are the main part of the song, but they're just quiet enough to give the listener some space to think about what is being said. I will always aspire to reach his level of honesty and self reflection in his lyrics. Being so honest and self reflective is one thing, but being brave enough to share these thoughts with the world, is something else. Maybe my opinion is al little biased because I'm a big fan, but I can't name a single modern artist that compares to him.

He said it himself in an interview, something like ‘’it’s easy to hide (drown) simple lyrics with a cool melody, but good lyrics stand strong alone.’’ Something like that. Not that I can think of one song of his that has really poor lyrics, but this one is really stripped down compared to something like ‘New Light’ Love it!

It's so incredible and rewarding to have been able to see and follow John through social media, and his struggles and thoughts he has had. Never before have artists been able to be so intimate with their followers. For example with the instagram live just being able to have him interacting with people on such a personal level for 40 minutes tells a lot about someone, especially when they are so honest with everyone. Therefore; We got to witness and understand everything John was talking about and the current mood of our situation, through this beautiful song. This song is so powerful because it eases pain for its listeners so easily because John wrote it for himself and his listeners and we were with him going through the same things. This song really resonates with me as I'm sure it does with many others. John Mayer is back and he never left, he just got a little lost like all of us; and together I guess we just feel like, which is a lot better than I guess I just feel like. Thanks John!

Man, i had a hard day today. In a world that everybody lies, sometimes i just give up and lie to. It's feels normal when you think about the first time. But... lies can cause some serious damage, even to people that you love. It kinda reminds me of one of john's lines "Did you know that you can be wrong, and swear you're right". I was feeling so bad and didn't know how to fix things, and then this video shows up. It's feels almost spiritual and magical, to be honest. John Mayer is my absolute hero, even tho i never had the honor to thank him personally, but i am so grateful for having his music. Dude has helped me from another side of the planet, that's the magic of music. I'm making a promisse today, never lying again. I guess i just feel like don't giving up today. Thanks John, for real.

people saying that this feels like 2008 or paradise valley, don't get me wrong, but I disagree... this feels like John's own natural evolution... he's not chained to the past... the thing about living is that it is cumulative... this song reminds us of those different vibes of old but it has its own feeling to it... it's simpler, more honest, more mature... I agree that it has something of old John but also something of Paradise Valley, Born and Raised and Search for Everything too... for example, I can easily imagine a soulful guitar solo like in Changing in that bridge section hahaha.... what I mean is that being an artist is all about moving forward, even if it means, apparently, going back. like Picasso that said once that he learned how to paint like a master to then learn how to paint like a child...well, I think John is in the same search, in the same process
