Take care of yourself, folks and get yourself checked out regularly. It's probably a good idea to keep some aspirin nearby.

true....my father died decades ago as prine sings it was hot outside on an ausguts afternoon (altho it was a humid july in Baltimore) and had he not stayed working in his office and dealt with that (he was only 55) he felt abonrmally not good they found out when he suddenly died he'd probably had a minor heart attack earlier and they may have been able to.....anyway as Otis says esp us not so young folks gotta be cuatious

Love this channel. Thanks, Otis. Good for Gurf. Glad he's ok. I had one 5 years ago. Hit me at about 4:30am. I thought it was neck/shoulder pain (which i have sometimes). Thankfully, my wife was an ER nurse at the time and once i had woken her up with my thrashing about, she insisted that I go to the ER. I had what is called a STEMI, which is a potential killer. Thank God for modern medicine and the very talented people who know how to implement it!

Otis: I have genuinely enjoyed the interviews with Gurf Morlix. How can one guy be so damned entertaining a story teller and so friggin’ cool yet display an aura of mellowness and remain appealingly humble and soft spoken. I’d been unfamiliar with Gurf prior to earlier entries on your show yet discovered that I own quite a few albums he’s associated with. Thanks for introducing us to such a genuinely nice guy.

Great story! I saw an interview were Tom Petty said that’s he had been approached by dozens of people, if not more, telling him what an inspiration “I Won’t Back Down” had been in their lives. My sister fought cancer for 5+ years after being told that she had maybe one year to live. The song inspired her as well. Love your channel Otis. Thanks!

Gurt, you've told a great story, I was on the edge of my seat, even knowing you didn't die! I'm glad the ending is favorable!! Gosh, driving yourself, the traffic jam, those awful pains, THEN the person at the Hospital when you finally get there treating you like scum -- glad they got the stent in there and you didn't have to hear Don Henley again! TORTURE!! So thankful for Tom Petty. He was watching you from the Great Wide Open and soothing you with his song. I'm SO glad you're here, continue to be as well as you look! :)

I am reminded of Warren Zevon's last appearance on the Letterman show, where he talked about his cancer diagnosis: "I may have made a tactical error by not seeing my physician for 25 years." My dad had the same near phobia and general dislike for hospitals, doctors, etc, and one day it was all over. This is a great reminder of the importance in not being as stubborn as my dad or folks like that. Thanks so much, gentlemen. I look forward to many more years of you both being around.

It went away and the next day guy in my band calls and said what did the Doctor say? I told him I didn't go, He lost it, made me go and they zipped me into surgery fast, Rotorootered my arteries put in a stint and I was good to go. Great show, as a guitar player who had a similar incident (2005, 3 stents,be 20 years if I make it, in 2005, thank you god) I just want to say that as moments can make a life or death difference, one of your main problems is denial-- this is not your stomach or gas or whatever, this is real, it's happening-- maybe your wrong and embarrassed, but that's the best outcome possible, if not it could be your life!

Man that procedure sounds brutal…especially while awake and having to listen to The Eagles at the same time 😢. Glad you pulled through. Pro tip, as someone who takes several Rx meds I keep in a pillbox in my pocket, I always keep a couple aspirin in there as well. Just for pains etc…but if somebody said to me “I think I’m having a heart attack” I would give anybody my aspirin…and maybe some Rx painkillers too(remember to never share rx meds UNLESS it’s a life or death matter), and be sure to inform the medics. So don’t be afraid to ask a stranger for aspirin, or anything, in a medical crisis. I dunno your music but I’ll sure check it out. Just keep on rocking, and keep that beat steady man! Thanks for sharing your story, ya never know who watches, and info like this may well save lives.

What a great story. I really enjoy Gurf. I've gone through something similar and it is certainly something you don't forget. I had mine at work and a coworker just happened to have aspirin on hand; in case a coworker had a heart attack! I love how he added the music critic angle to the story. Maybe it meant something. "Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?" may relate to the sense of driving yourself to the hospital. I'm not judging because I probably would have tried the same thing. But in retrospect maybe not the best choice. But it works out and "Won't Back Down" is exactly the right attitude to have as you fight through the challenge. As we age, the chance of stuff like this increases. And I guess anyone that can write a song "50 Years" has the chance of a major health challenge.

I was teaching my young daughter and her friend how to surf in beautiful St Augustine Fla. with my awesome wife (who saved my life). It was a beautiful morning with nice, friendly waves. The four of us were having so much fun, then all of a sudden I step off of my board after a great little wave and my chest turned into a blazing fire, and then the weight of an elephant was pressing down on my chest so bad I could hardly breath. It took my wife for ever to get me out of the water, then I fell on my knees and crawled up the beach. She ran and got our car, got a bottle of aspirins, then called the first responders there in St. Augustin. They got me to the Hospital in great time. I had a "Widow Maker" as well ! Three stints from an excellent Doctor in their local hospital named Howard Baker, then back home to Tampa where I got a pacemaker-defibrillator installed and I've been Living it up ever since. I was 59 years old, when it happened. I'm living a GREAT life and I'm going to be 67 in a few months. FOLKS, please Men & Women, if your in your early or late 50's, please get checked out !!! Good story. Glad it had a happy ending. Five years ago I thought I was having a heart attack and my ex-wife, (we actually get along better than when we were married), rushed me to the ER and when I walked in and said, "I think I might be having a heart attack", I was in a wheel chair in about 15 seconds and hooked up to an EEG within about 2 minutes. They move fast when they hear those words. If you ever go to the ER and want to get to the head of the line just tell them you might be having a heart attack.
