there's a school of thought in other color analysis systems that dark(deep) winter has a sister season with deep autumn! this means you can also pull off gold, just not AS well! ALSO all the deep autumn colors work as a secondary palette for you! wearing deep dark colors is the most important thing for us deep winters :)

@@Taichientaoyin You could trim light colors with dark. White with black lapels and belts, bright pink scarves against light outfits, light pink and white dresses with large splashes of bright flowers (a light dress you could put some liquid embroidery or iron on's onto),tatted burgundy lace collars, emerald necklaces against ice blue (think white tiger with blue eyes and panda bears with green eyes against bamboo leaves ) or panther eyes .... Some suggestions I hope will give you a bit of inspiration.

I had a similar experience to you, but the other way around. I'm 57 and had thought I was a winter, like, FOR EVER!! But I'm very clearly a spring. There was no denying the evidence in the mirror! I was in shock 😂 Having my colours done has made a huge difference to how I feel about clothes. I'm back in love with colour, where I'd only worn black for years, out of laziness. I had my colours done 3 months ago and haven't worn black since.

@@lauermar that's so interesting! And a bit inconvenient...but also exciting, in a way! I recall being told back in the 80s by an older lady who was very into seasonal analysis (I was 20 and wasn't interested) She kept telling me, oh you're such a lovely winter type (anecdotal, since she didn't test me) and so I always assumed I was (I have dark hair and v blue eyes). Perhaps I was cooler at the time. I know the undertone is not meant to change, but certainly my overtone has changed from very pale to more golden as I've got older. I love spring but wouldn't mind being winter. Although it would be hideously expensive 😵‍💫 Edited to add: I DUD have dark hair; it's now white and silver

@alicejwho you might be a bright spring? They often get misdiagnosed as true winter when young as that is their sister palette. I was very very pale with dark hair when young so people thought I was winter but as I got older my golden skin tone came out and it's became obvious. When young I could wear most of the winter palette well except black and Magenta but spring was always a little better. Now I'm older I can wear less winter shades without makeup, and all the brighter spring shades still look popping.

I used to work as a colour consultant and it was fascinating the amount of people who were convinced they were an Autumn but were actually Winters. And that combination is the best to use when demonstrating what colour does to you if you hold up an autumn colour eg the Khaki green compared to a jewel coloured green it is really obvious. When I did colours you can wear browns but very dark cool brown or a stone light coloured brown. For eyeshadows you can use taupes and deep browns just avoid yellow tones. Re the gold jewellery personally I think if you like it wear it - even if silver will look better on you - it is so small in comparison to clothing I don't think it matters as much. Like you said hair colours can make quite a big difference so yes ask hairdresser to use cool colours or if highlighting to make sure they use a toner. Is good to hear you enjoyed the consultation especially as it was a gift - sometimes they were difficult consults as weren't that interested.

Yes, a lot of people confuse this and don't understand difference between over- and undertones. I'm cool undertoned, although close to neutral, with warmer overtones. I can't wear orange or warm browns but my blush or bronzer needs that tint of orange to work, because that's closer to what my skin looks like when tanned. The redness in my face overtones is kinda coral, so anything too pink just looks off on me, that's why until recently I never even wore blush, it always felt clownish. 😂

I'm so glad you were open minded about being a Winter. The white blouse you wore in the second part of the video makes you skin look sensational. You don't need to get rid of everything that's not in your season. There are days when you don't want to look your best. Now you know how to do it purposefully. My sister manages her husband's libido that way. She loves him and doesn't want to turn him down, so she's learned how to not turn him on. Keep an orange sweater to wear when you've got stuff to do and have no time for guy's hitting on you.

Hi there! I've heard several colour analysts that earrings and necklaces are usually small details that do not affect your season that much. But, instead, they say that if you are debating, for instance, between a golden or a silver dress or shirt, you should go for silver if you have a cool undertone. But i don't think jewelery makes that much of a difference. And of course, you should wear whatever you like regardless of your season, it's just good to know your best colours for special occasions, for example, if you want to make a good first impression at an interview or something like that. Hope this helps! xx

However I decided to start wearing my colours from that day forward, and I can’t believe the compliments just rolling in and the many stares from both men and women on the streets. 😂it really is a confidence booster. And as I love colour there’s so much more to now put into my wardrobe. It truly was worth the money, and the piece of mind now that every item will work together. Btw I just wanted to say that your white shirt and red lip look great on you. It really DOES make your teeth look super white, which is what we now know the right shade should do for us. 😊 Exciting stuff. I’m hoping to have a style analysis soon. Can’t wait.... 🤣

I totally agree with the house of colour makeup being old fashioned. I think because colour analysis was so “80s” up until very recently since its become an online trend... the only people getting colour analysis were older women 😅 so companies like house of colour haven’t had to appeal to a younger audience. They should definitely start making an effort to update their brand, and making an app would definitely help with that!

I think they were close in that I need warm colours (the one that said autumn) and some brightness (the one that said bright spring) but true spring contains both qualities and feels right. I found CMB a bit pedantic (you have to wear bronzer, as you have pale skin for an autumn) and (you need to dye your hair darker, for a bright spring)! If the colours did not suit me as I am, surely they were not right on me?!

Great job, thanks. I love your honesty. Also, I am 65, and when you say it's screams old lady, you are using that as an adjecto to describe something ugly, undesirable, or negative. It's just wrong to slam old ladies as if they don't matter. You will be older someday and show your age. Also, older women do not wear shimmer because it highlights wrinkles, so they advise you to go to matte and cream even over powder. Anyway, shimmery is supposed to be out. After all, looking old or your age is bad, right?

Speaking of using season as a loose guide, I often dress edgy and kinda gothic/moody. Since I am a Soft Autumn, I use Dark Autumn colors with dark autumn makeup, and it looks edgy, whereas it wouldn't look edgy at all on a Dark Autumn. I still wear black and black smokey eye when I want to look really hard-core, whereas a dark winter would have to really try to look edgy and hard-core in black.

If you're good at selling your clothes, try selling an amount equivalent to the analysis cost. Then accumulate items you like slowly later on into that space. It would be nice if some of these analysis places had an adjacent service for clothes sale so you can "trade" the cost with clothes you've "wasted" money on that other people might be better suited too. Whether you buy something on that site or not you'd contribute to someone else's closet and reimburse yourself the cost. I've heard there's Facebook groups,I just don't online shop ,a rack that some analyzser's have would work in person.

Some colors will work in graduation and gradient - in your case as long as there's sharp contrast and crisp distinction. You might try graduating from winter on top,to autumn on the bottom still using the sub - color groups to create connection in the middle. Such as an emerald jacket, platinum necklace, white vest or buttoned shirt and bright purple undershirt . Deep winter purple belt with yellow and white gold buckle. Dark plum, peacock purple,or Japanese maple red pants. Dark socks and yellow gold trimmed burgundy shoes. An emerald and white purse with platinum chain, and yellow and white gold buckle.

A major problem for me is that some pale blues are dusty (unoticeably beige - like adding blue food coloring to slightly gold caramel) . Muted, pale, powder blues can sometimes come too close to this. Experiment with crisp green blues, and even some summer watercolor aquas and baby blues on the bottom half with a white top. I can tell you definitely ice ,arctic ,and glacier blues are winter. Santorini, baby, lake, and beach blues are summer. Sky colors vary season to season, month to month. Dusty blues common in bridal wear now and stores are warm. Robin's egg turquoise , and green aqua's that aren't so water color are more spring.

@11:41- I want to comment on this because I learned this in color theory class in college (I got my degree in Fine Arts). We had an assignment around this and it was one of my fav things from that class and we learned why color combinations can change dramatically due to what other colors are around it. It's another reason why I REFUSE to buy clothes online because I need to see how the color looks on me due to my skin tone because what may look good in a picture, doesn't mean it's going to look good on you. But yeah, when I finished my assignment, while I only used 3 colors (2 different backgrounds and 1 color in the foreground), it looked like I used 4 different colors. The one color I used in the foreground was violet and the two background colors were red and blue. On the red side, the main color looked indigo because the red sucked up the 'redness' in the violet. In the blue section, the main color looked maroon because the blue background sucked up the 'blueness' in the violet. So yeah fascinating stuff huh? Thanks for talking about the price. I am an American and thankfully there is a good color analysis in my neck of the woods (she has excellent reviews), the only drawback is the price because it also was around $250 (I know the English pound is worth more than the US Dollar). So hearing the price gave me an idea. I looked at the local color analyst's website and the price included in depth stuff too and the sessions can last up to 3 hours so it definitely sounds like I'd be getting my money's worth. Sadly I am of limited means and being the penny pincher that I am (like I have a trip coming up that involves my family so that takes priority), so it might be awhile I get my own color analysis, but I do want to do this someday. My best guess would be that I am a Summer because I tend to look better in pastels and muted colors. Definitely nothing too deep though. I once wore a dark forest green gown for Prom (it's a formal High School dance) and I looked so washed out in my pictures. Previous year for prom I wore a baby blue which I looked a whole lot better in. I do love colors though so I'd be fine with any season though since I am very open-minded.

Color analysis is something I watch to get pairing ideas and color wheel development, not just see the colors people can wear - I do like to see them pull summer color swatches because there aren't too many other places to see it,and I just love the feel of seeing those colors around (chromatographic 😊) . But currently I'm trying to use the color scheme to graduate from rust colored bricks to summer color plants in the garden especially in arranged garden styles.

Thank you for this video! I've also been typed as a cool/sultry winter, but I have always thought I was mostly warm too! Especially as I have yellow undertones in my skin, I can't wear pinky foundations. I suspect I'm probably neutral though, and yellow just looks less weird on me. I really like the cool winter palette for clothes but don't really want to change my makeup lol.

I love light pink eyeshadow from Lavera (German organic light coverage makeup) . Try medium pink. White gold. Very cool blue, mountain tip, grey and purple as opposed to hazey heather grey. You might like white gold platinum better than silver unless it's too light winter.

I'm a winter who prefers the autumn palette. Before my analysis, my closet was half winter and half autumn, but I realized I rarely wore the autumn-colored clothes. I'd put them on and think, "Um, not today." I came to understand that my autumn clothes weren't flattering because of the color, not because I looked fat or some other reason.

Before I did my colour analysis I also considered how this would in the long run save me money. I would be able to not make terrible choices when buying clothes and makeup without understanding why I didn’t like the items on me. Now I can see that much clearer and I don’t even need to try the clothes on in the store that are completely out of my season to know they don’t suit me.

I’m a Winter and I also look worse in the warm colors. You’d probably be better in cool hair color. Also a cool or neutral foundation makeup will hwlp. Iove orange and bright Spring colors and I go ahead and wear them, i am a bright Winter, I avoid light colors also.

I think its because color analysis matches your Undertone, not the overtone of your skin, if you want to match a foundation for makep up, you have a neutral/ warm overtone, but that only counts for foundation beacause of the need for an overtone match. With color analysis, winter colors match your undertone

Gray is lighter and provides less contrast so you can skip it. Try charcoal gray, stay with dark gray and black is best.

Since your eyes are brown, I think you can wear some gold as long as it's not too brassy, whereas if you had cool blue or blue gray eyes, there would be no harmony. Ease into this. After a while you will see what doesn't work. Buy a tee in a color you might not have tried before and notice how people react to you and how you feel. You do look terrific in pure white.

This is so confusing for me. I think I’m warm (medium-deep skin tone)- like Mac nc42-44. Yellow undertones and some green as well. But it’s hard to tell because I dislike most warm versions: Tomato red, olive green I hate, brown, not particularly fond of orange. But only wear gold or rose gold jewelry as they look better and wear mostly black clothes.

I have very similar coloring to you, but I am a fair olive, and I have almost exclusively a gold jewelry collection. My wardrobe is pretty standard for a winter-mostly black, white, grey, red and navy. Two things. You should try toning your highlights to a cool red. You might really like it and if you don't, it will wash out eventually. Also, try using neutral eyeshadow. A cool brown rather than a warm brown. Regarding the jewelry, I think this is an area in which the seasonal color analysis system is a bit too rigid. Jewelry can be very tricky. There are so many shades and finishes of gold and silver. I have found through a lot of trial and error that I look my absolute best in mixed metals as you mentioned. I also look significantly better in matte brushed jewelry as opposed to shiny. Pearl or mother of pearl jewelry is actually the most flattering of all on me. Not sure if you wear pearls, but you may want to experiment.

I actually think I'm going to go dark with my hair soon, I've done it before but always warm but I want to go a dark cool/neutral this time. I do think I look better in silver jewellery but I think it'll be a slow transition for me. I definitely want to try pearls too!

I thought I suck in this (I still do XD) but the moment I saw you, especially with fresh face, I said - Winter and most probably Deep one. I'm just at the beginning of your color analysis, so I'm yet to discover how wrong I was. XO Edit: :) As True Winter you can borrow some shades from True Summer. If you are Cool Winter, the same goes for Cool Summer - they are your 'sister seasons'. You can also wear jewel colors and jewels themselves. I'd try costume version of amethyst, emerald, ruby and see how it looks. I bet it'll look great on you. XO

Great in-depth video! I plan on getting my color analysis done soon. I believe that I am a Winter because warm red lipstick looks terrible on me and warm brown clothing is super unflattering on me. I don’t own any orange clothing, I wore a lot of black clothing in college. I look good in grey. I have a question, have you changed the foundation shade you buy or that stays the same? What shade did you purchase before analysis (neutral, warm, cool)? I heard from a KZfaq Color Analyst that a person can have a warm overtone (warm foundation shade) and have a cool skin undertone. The under tone is ‘under the skin’. Thanks for sharing 😊

Warm colours were adding more depth in your dark circles, uneven color on your cheeks etc. You are a fair cool with pink undertone. Also your eyebrows are very dark , usualy is specific on winters , not a rule though, but the hair colour is very discolourated comparing with your natural eyebrows colour !
