i had this happen to me, turns out there was a way to get under the map by going through the right of the desert but you had to get past some invisible walls and hit him with a projectile to teleport him to you

I disconnected at the boss fight and i have to restart over

I feel bad for everyone who grind for him, thankfully the developer give a code to gift you a free item to spawn him, you can get him without the painful quest and skip to the part where you just need to talk with burger npc -> kill cid -> talk again to burger and then you got the item for cid

I had to do cid quest triple times to finally get cid

you think you're the only one? i had to do it 4 TIMEs. the first time my game crashed while fighitng him, the second time i didnt get it because someone else go the last hit, the third time, i asked a guy to help and he also got the last hit. and now hopefully the fourth time is the charm.
