4:40 - Su is listed on the albums as 'vocals and dance' while Yui and Moa are listed as 'scream and dance'. Su is a gifted soprano with a range of C4 to G#4/5 and is very proud of her vocal ablities and works hard to practice breath control while dancing and singing - one of her exercises is to run full pelt on a treadmill, jump off and sing straight away. I could see you appreciated how swiftly she changed from dancing about to that sweet, tinkling tone at 6:03. She is only 16 here (in fact, this is on her 16th birthday and if you want to see what she gets for her birthday then you'll have to watch the closing number, Death, though you will have a few WTF? moments - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hpqPa5Rq19-uYaM.html ). Su is 22 now and her voice is one of the best in the Metal world. I saw them in Feb in Cardiff (44 years after I watched Sabbath play in the same city) and they were utterly brilliant.

Good reaction. There are a couple of recent performances of Headbanger that are so good, one from last year when Moa, one of the younger girls, had her 20th birthday and Su handed her the mic and stand half way through so she could take over lead vocals for the rest of the song. A perfect choice for you to see them at a festival in the UK where virtually nobody knew who or what they were would be 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' (IDZ - 'Bullying, No More, For Ever) from Sonisphere 2014. This was their first major event outside of Asia, their Gimme Chocolate video had gone viral so the organiser moved them from the small side stage they were originally booked to play to open the main stage on Saturday morning instead. They were worried that nobody would come to see them, they were also worried because there had been some threats made on social media by elitists that they were prepared to throw bottles at this "gimmick band making a mockery of metal". They were only 16 and the other two had just had their 15th birthdays, in the UK for the very first time, they hardly spoke any English - they walked out on stage to face 50-60,000 UK metalheads waiting to see bands like Slayer, Iron Maiden and Metallica. They played 5 songs, this was the last of their set. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNVdksaTy8rWiXk.html

"With the legendary long black hair gorgeously disordered, this crazy blooming flower will soon disappear. Now the time has come. I no longer hesitate. I tightly hold my discount railway tickets. To the east, to the west, to the south, to the north. Today I rush to the very front of stage center. On the left side, on the right side, standing up still, leaning back, jumping toward the stage, leaning over the fence, rolling over the crowd, and then all deeply headbanging. This special night of my fifteen I'll never forget. All the crybabies, get out of here! It'll never come again and it goes by so fast. I etch in my heart this special night of my fifteen." Hi Wolfeden! Good reaction! "Headbanger!" is a song about a girl going to her first metal concert on her 15th birthday. It's easily my favorite song on the first album. You want to see how overseas crows react to them? Alright, check these out: "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" - Live Sonisphere UK 2014 - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNVdksaTy8rWiXk.html - Title translates to "Bullying, No good, Absolutely". This was their first big show in the west. They originally booked a small side stage however the organizers bumped them up to the main stage due to the buzz they were generating. The girls were scared that the UK metal heads would throw bottles at them. "KARATE" - Live Download UK 2016 - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p752bJeDrL-pnas.html - Download initially didn't want to book BABYMETAL, so in 2015 DragonForce let them play with them on stage. Download booked them the following year and this is the result. "Distortion" - Live Download UK 2018 - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fOCXiJaImsDLqok.html - 2018 was a pretty bad year for BABYMETAL. Mikio Fujioka who is one of the Kami Band guitarists passed away at the beginning of the year (stage left guitarist in this Headbanger video, the one playing the solo), and YuiMetal officially announced her departure from the group due to health reasons. Despite all this they still put on fantastic shows. The UK has been really good to BABYMETAL, Su (lead singer) has called it their second home. As part of their European tour at the beginning of this year they played 4 sold out shows in the UK.

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🤘 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!!!' is about a girl attending her first heavy concert on her 15th birthday. Of course by the time Su was fifteen she was commanding a stage rather than attending concerts like the girl in the song. She actually recorded the song when she was 14. This concert was 'Legend 1997' on December 21st, 2013, celebrating Su's 16th Birthday. Even though that looked like the finale, it was followed by two more songs. It was part of a five song encore with the live Kami Band. The drummer was Hideki Aoyama. The bassist was BOH, and guitarists that night were Leda Cygnus and the late great Mikio Fujioka (RIP Ko-gami/Little god).

If you want to listen to the studio version of this song you could combine it with watching the official MV. Speaking of them at festivals... Their first big festival appearance in the west was at the 2014 Sonisphere Festival in the UK where they opened the main stage on the second day (IIRC). They were age 16 (lead singer) and barely 15 (backup singers, dancers) back then. There is a fancam of the whole gig, but the official channel has at least the last song of the set: *"Ijime, Dame, Zettai"* (Bullying, No, Absolutely) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNVdksaTy8rWiXk.html

And that was another good reaction! Thanks! We usually appreciate the live versions for the stage presence, Su being amazing live, Kami Band, crowd interaction, less production, etc. but I read somewhere that is always good to compare that with the studio version just to listen to the song the way they created and wrote it. I have done that process and I ended up collecting the sound of live performances, basically Budokan's Black Night, Wembley, Legend S, etc. to make my personal playlist for each album (I'm currently working on Live at the Forum and Legend Metal Galaxy, BTW).

Good reaction. I realised an ambition in February this year when I got to yell "Ki-e-ro!" with 1,900 other nutters when Babymetal played the legendary Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow. (It was my third BM show, but the first time I'd seen them do this song.) You're absolutely spot-on in your observations about the theatricality, the spectacle. The showmanship is definitely a large part of what makes Babymetal special. Japanese bands in general have not forgotten the art of entertainment, and Babymetal take that aspect to a very high level indeed. Obviously when they play a smaller venue like the Barrowland, they don't have all the bells and whistles (and gongs!) you see here, but they bring the musicianship, the costumes, the choreography, the interaction with the crowd, and the sheer exuberant joy of performance. If you want to see them playing at a UK festival, you really need to see Sonisphere 2014. It was a make-or-break moment for them: their first festival appearance in the west, in front of 50,000 people, most of whom were there to see Anthrax and Iron Maiden. People will ask you to watch Ijime Dame Zettai, and they're absolutely right, but I'm going to suggest something unorthodox. There are pro shots with great sound of two songs (of the five they played on that momentous day) and I think you should do them both to get a sense of the way the set unfolded. They are: Gimme Chocolate!! - Live at Sonisphere 2014 (2nd song of the set) - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jtJ9ddepp9LSZok.html Ijime, Dame, Zettai - Live at Sonisphere 2014 (5th and closing song) - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNVdksaTy8rWiXk.html

@@thewolfeden4766 A back-to-back reaction in one video would be fantastic, although I realise it would be a long one. Most people start their Babymetal journey with Gimme Chocolate!! and it's still probably their best-known song, although it's not every fan's favourite. Reactors usually watch the official video, which has the studio track over live footage. I don't think I've ever seen anyone do the Sonisphere performance, which is a pity because I think it contains the moment you can point to and say, "That's when any lingering doubt vanished. That's when they knew they had won over this huge crowd of potentially indifferent (or even hostile) metalheads, and that they could conquer the world."

Yes RoR Live in Japan is generally considered one of the best live MV ever. It usually nails the 'gimmick band' concept when you see 20,000 metal fans chanting along and realise that the performance you are seeing is the END of an hour and half show AT THAT PACE! If you want to see how big they really are the Toyko Dome shows will blow your mind, 55,000 fans all in unison... and they did that 2 nights in a row with totally different music sets and routines!

The look that Su-Metal gets on her face at 4:27 is the burning gaze of Alexander the Great, which seems to peer into your very soul. Queen Su has a couple other things in common with the mighty Macedonian conqueror. First, there is her self-avowed desire to conquer the world, albeit in her case through music. Then there is the story about a much earlier performance at Saitama Super Arena in 2008. Back then Su was the youngest member of a pop/idol trio called Keren Girl's. Having never played such a large venue before, the two older girls were naturally a bit nervous about it. Su on the other hand was so confident that she decided to take a nap before the show, and slept so soundly that someone had to go wake her. The first time I read this story it actually gave me a chill because there is an eerily similar story told about Alexander before the Battle of Gaugamela. It was then that I realized what is so special about Su-Metal. She possesses that intangible something that is the spark of greatness.
@paulbenwell35604 жыл бұрын
Su was born for the stage, she becomes someone else on stage (we do not kid it is scary). Off stage we tease but her little weirdness (cue show lace jokes, and getting lost). On stage she just seems to become a goddess. She rules a stage...
@paulbenwell35604 жыл бұрын
As others have said this dates from December 2013.. in fact Su the lead turned 16 the day before, the other two girls are 14 1/2 !! Their voices then were still young and maturing. True studio does tinker but never autotune, rather to add effects. Today Su is 22 and her voice has matured and settled and she is a superb soprano. The shows are as much fun now as then, and 2020 sees this bands 10th anniversary (so definitely no gimick). I am 52, I have seen punk, and god knows what else live in 40 odd years .. been to festivals, seen bands when audiences are in their 10's and major tours of the like of Pink Flloyd at their height.. and I can say without a doubt the best gigs EVER were theirs.. Seen them 3 times and man would sell my soul to see them. BABYMETAL fans are the nicest, kindest and most fun bunch I have ever met. At concerts the queues are epic fun, people give away free food, drinks, sweets and tons of home made BM fan gifts. There is ALWAYS an after show party the fans have as well ... it is more like theatre as the audience is part of the show. Everyone knows not just the songs but when to sing along and what to chant or do when...

They only use autotune for her voice a few times, and it's not cause she needs it. It's cause they want its effect on whatever the vocal line is. Oh, and I'll also recommend Ijime, Dame, Zettai live in Sonisphere UK in 2014.

Japanese/Korean bands/group are live performers first, there are few if any "studio" bands/groups. I mean, Megitsune was an official MV, so obviously you can't really form an opinion on their voice live from a studio recorded official audio... Su is much better live anyway. Remember what I said before, this is still nothing :). And when you have reacted to RoR live and Rondo as the comments probably suggested, it will still be nothing compared to what they have done. It keeps getting better and better. By the way, 5 months from now your playlist will be full of BABYMETAL songs, just a heads up lol. If you want to see them at a UK Festival, what about Karate at Download 2016 or Ijime Dame Zettai at Sonisphere 2014 ?
