After living on my own for years, a couple weeks ago I finally went to see my parents who live in another state. I thought I was fine being alone, but after seeing them again I realized I was genuinely hurt. I was carrying that pain around for so long that I forgot what it was like to have family. They laughed and spent time with me. They fed me. Most importantly, they finally sat and listened to me, maybe because I finally found the words. Because I've made it farther on my path. I was seen. I didn't know I needed that. I see them now as real people, and it was a beautiful feeling that I didn't know I yearned for. After leaving my mother and father to go to the airport, I started tearing up on the way. I was genuinely shocked at myself. Who am I, to be crying after leaving my parents? This isn't normal for me. And then I remembered: I'm their son.

As a child of immigrants (South Sudan) I can definitely relate to both of y'all on this. I'm 23 now and I'm the stage where I've fled the nest and I'm living on my own. I spend a LOT of time reflecting and Lamenting on my relationship (or lack thereof) with my parents. I want so badly to change things but I remember the pain I suffered as a child and I come to the conclusion that I'm not ready yet. I will see my parents again tomorrow for the first time in a month, and thanks to this video, I feel like there is nothing holding me back from growing closer with my parents. Thanks to you both for giving me hope 🙏🏿

Man this segment is so timely. Two days ago I had a dream of my mom and it had me trying to figure out how to approach my mom. Also in my 30's I can relate to you guys regarding having a relationship with my parents, especially my mom. Coming from a Caribbean household as a male child certain expectations ruled out healthy conversations and the enjoyment of moments together. It was only when I moved out (which was a painful experience) was only then I got to experience that "Water" y'all speak of. Enjoy the moment, appreciate that it came because it didn't have to. Thank you.

Idk how to feel about this still but I've been learning bit by bit that in this world...being alone isn't much of a bad thing.. it's the fact that having someone there to fall back to when all is lost. I am 33 now Aba as well, but you see my dad, mom & little bro died decades ago. I know work and all other things we have to do and so on, but those little moments we spend with family are worth a lot. One day all will pass it's about focusing on good staff and working on creating more good staff. Finding that peace within and appreciating the moment right now where we are.
