ultrasound technologist here 👋🏼 if babies simply don’t want to cooperate while we’re scanning, there’s not a lot we can do! it’s a lot harder to get perfect images then you would think! i wouldn’t go straight to blaming the tech for not getting the pictures you wanted. baby girl was probably being difficult. xx

Kilean, thanks so much for sharing. ❤️ I am type 1 diabetic and had a very similar experience to yours at my 28 week ultrasound. My daughter was also measuring 3lbs 5 oz and I also felt a lack of support from the provider I saw (not my regular OB). You are not alone in the constant tracking and what feels like dieting. My little one is also breech 🙃 and I think we are only a week or so off on due dates. You have support, I promise!

Watching this I’m in tears I was told at 24 weeks I had gestational diabetes and had to be placed on insulin. The delivery of the news by the dr was so harsh. My dr hasn’t been pleasant since, about my weight. Always the way she delivers stuff makes me leave feeling like ugh. My baby girl is positioned just like you described and I’m already 32 + 3 days and I’m just always so stressed. Thank you for sharing. I don’t feel alone.

I’m 12 weeks with my 4th pregnancy. Last week at my prenatal appt my OB brought up the weight gain chart on the screen and she said “we want your weight to be in between these two lines.” My line was hitting the max line already. But she did mention bc I have severe morning sickness she knows that carbs are mostly what I can keep down/not be nauseated as much from. 🤷🏻‍♀️ My second and third baby we’re both breach when I was pregnant with them but they eventually turn on their own as I got closer to my due date. Thank you for sharing your pregnancy with us. It feels so nice to be pregnant with other woman bc sometimes pregnancy can be lonely. ❤️

I’m also gestational diabetic with our third baby. I’m so sorry you were discouraged by the pa. If I could offer any encouragement it would be to continue to control the things you can control, which is eating well and yes advocacy! You are paying them to help you and they are serving you and your baby. Being kind and firm can go hand in hand and is something that I’ve learned to do especially with doctors/pas. 🙂

I gained 40 pounds in my pregnancy and it was 15-20 pounds higher than they preferred for me since I'm 5'1". I had to go on a low carb diet around 30 weeks and it didn't make a huge difference in how fast I gained. There's only so much you can do, try not to stress too much! You look great! If baby is doing well and you're watching your sugars since you have GD, you're doing all you can. Can't wait to see baby girl!

My baby was constantly in the 90th+ percentile my entire pregnancy and they constantly questioned me if I had gestational diabetes. They even said my daughter would be around 10 lbs and when she was born, she was 7 lbs 8 oz. Ultrasounds aren’t always the best and I went to a specialist. I never had GD, but I know you’re around where I live I think and I would recommend going to Lilly of the valley and see their PA Venessa. I know you’re pretty far along, but I thought I would recommend because this PA is an absolute sweetheart and you wanna feel like you’re doing everything right growing your little blessing 💗

I gained 40 lbs total with my pregnancy. I didn’t have gestational diabetes but my doctor was pretty cold and also said I was gaining too much weight and it really affected me. My baby was completely healthy all it did was make me feel uncomfortable. Im so sorry some doctors don’t have great bedside manner and don’t realize the way they say things truly matters. You are doing amazing. And your baby is completely healthy and that is all that matters. Lots of love to you and your family 🤍🤍🤍

I’ve gained more with my second pregnancy than I did my first for sure and at one of my appointments, the nurse pointed out that I had gained a ton since the last time I was there. I felt horrible. But when my OB came in after, he said that unless you’re obese to start off with, gaining more weight than “normal” is almost never a concern. He even said he’s not entirely sure why they even need to do that step at this point for people that are clearly healthy. He reassured me that yes it was a lot and that I could watch what I was eating if I was concerned about it but that I was perfectly healthy, my baby would be too and it wasn’t a huge deal. Keep doing you, I’m sure you’re baby is doing very well. Unhelpful or unnecessary judgement is the worst.

I’m so sorry you had that negative experience! Prenatal care in the US is appalling. I gained 50 pounds with my son, and he didn’t turn head down until 35 weeks. You are very emotionally resilient with comments. I’m sure you already know this, but it’s some peoples personality to just express what the best, better, more logical, more factual thing to do is - despite not having any context or any background knowledge on the things they are speaking on. Usually, they somehow feel they are being helpful. Whatever. The fact is, none of us commenters have opened up our home and lifestyles to the public and exposed our choices to the commentary of strangers, and I would imagine if we did there would be tons of opinions and red flags flown our way about our mothering choices. So keep doing your thing and thank you for opening up your personal life as a help and support to other moms out there. It’s super helpful and we appreciate it!

Kilean! Don’t feel insecure about any of this! You are doing great and this is the 2nd baby so obv she’s growing faster! Plus u had GD the first time sooo arent u most likely gonna always have it for ur next pregnancies? I’m sorry the lady said things to you like that. When I was pregnant I actually ended up switching doctors right at the beginning bc my OB that I had been to since high school was horrible. Made me feel so bad, made me feel like I couldn’t ask questions, made it feel like any questions I asked were stupid- she literally laughed at me when I asked a question. She acted like I had done this before lol and my partner was there and he’s the same way as thaniel like he is pretty oblivious but he even agreed her delivery was terrible and demeanor. So u are not alone! Find someone that makes u feel good and comfortable! I was literally crying like omg I can’t have my baby w that lady I’d be so stressed! But you look great don’t worry girl! U know urself best!

You poor thing. I had a really hard appt once too this pregnancy. You are only 28 weeks so baby girl still has plenty of time to flip. Don’t worry. You look great and even share what you eat, so we all know you are taking great care of that baby. Some doctors just don’t have a greatest bedside manner. I had an appt where the words “after that we can see whether or not you want to continue this pregnancy” were said. I was obviously devastated and riddled with panic. And then a few tests later, my baby was perfectly healthy and is still doing great. I really wish all doctors would remember how their words can hurt, and how much stress can impact our pregnancies as well. 😅 Things can always be said in a different way. Sending you love. ❤️

I was actually diagnosed with type 1 diabetes with my 3rd pregnancy. So now I’m insulin dependent for the rest of my life. And I’m very healthy but it’s genetic so I had no control over the diagnoses. So I can totally relate in how it feels. Thankfully your diabetes will go away once your baby is born, thank goodness!! I'm so sorry you had a rough experience! In my 1st pregnancy I went to an OBGYN. My Dr. was kind.. but I still felt rushed in and out of appointments, they didn't educate me or explain what was going on in my pregnancy, & they never presented me with choices only things that they were doing to/for me. If it's possible I definitely want to go to a midwifery for my 2nd pregnancy. If not, I've educated myself enough now to advocate better :)

Thank you for sharing. I also have GD and was really shocked, disappointed, and emotional about it. My sugars have also been fine if I behave myself, but they spike with any processed sugar sweets. Trying to look at it as a blessing in disguise to hopefully help myself have a better diet post partum. My baby is actually measuring small and they are worried about blood flow they can see is decreased during the Dopplering in the ultrasound. They said GD can do the opposite and have small babies too because of the effects of vasculature. Also had COVID in the 1st trimester which can affect the placenta too so idk....we are getting induced in a couple days when I hit 37 weeks 😬 thanks for sharing all your GD journey with your pregnancies. It has made me feel like I'm not alone for having these emotions!

Also you look amazing and very fit, as long as you and baby are healthy I wouldn't worry about your doctor's comments too much. Ultrasounds can be way off both ways and every woman gains weight at a different rate. Some doctors are so focused on minimal weight gain but I feel like midwives are better at prioritizing more important things, I feel like they are a great option to look into!

I gained 60lb in my first pregnancy and my doctor made some really hurtful comments to me throughout that pregnancy.. I had an ED because of it in my second pregnancy and actually ended up 10lb lighter the day after giving birth to my second baby than I was before I got pregnant with her. By the grace of God she’s healthy and always has been, but I really struggled in my second pregnancy because of the way the doctor treated me in my first. I was so scared to gain more than 10-15lb in total throughout the entire pregnancy.. which was extremely dangerous now looking back at it and I’m glad I’m not struggling with that anymore. Baby girl just turned 1 in December. Im so sorry that you were treated that way, and I pray you find a better doctor/midwife!

Girl I’ve gained 33 pounds at 30 weeks and have been super self conscious about it but I’m eating healthy, exercising and taking care of myself so I feel like some people just gain more than others in preparation. This has nothing to do with what you’re doing

Hi Kilean Just watched your birth video of your baby girl. Beautiful video. I noticed you mentioned gestational diabetes and decided to go through and find this video of your diagnosis for the 2nd time. I like watching peoples stories, alot of people are diferent but i havent come across any the same as mine. I thought i would share my story. Very different with diagnoses. Im currently 37 weeks 4 days pregnant with my first. I am 35 years old and weighed 59kgs (130 pounds) before falling pregant. Very fit and active women. Size 8 and i eat healthy. I thought gestational diabetes was for people that ate unhealthy, weren't active and generally over weight. Boy was i wrong.... I got a blood test at 4 weeks pregnant. I had to be fasted for this blood test. My doctor noticed my fasting level was slightly above the recommendation for pregnant women. I am from Australia so our readings are different. I was a 5.3 and they wanted me at or below 5.1. Got another blood test to double check and came back again at 5.3. I thought i had failed. What had i done wrong. I thought it was the end of the world, very dramatic i know but it really got me down. Now looking back on it, thank god my doctor was onto this early as i could of gone all the way to 28 weeks before this was picked up. I was sent to see an Endocronoligist. After 2 weeks of blood glucose monitoring i needed to go onto insulin. My fasting blood sugar level was the one i couldnt control. The insulin they started me on was a disaster. It was a relitively short acting insulin. Peeking at around 1-3am. I started on the lowest dose. Waking me up with low sugar levels, shaking, hungry, anxious and not feeling great. We tried for a week to get it right. Finally they changed the insulin to a long lasting one, 12-24 hrs it lasts depending on doseage. Finally something started to work. So iv been on insulin from very early on in my pregnancy and also a lowish carb diet managing my levels throughout the day. And lucky for me so far i have staye don the same dose of 8 units. Nothing has changed. My baby measured at 28 weeks 72 percentile. I was shocked. People kept saying how small my baby belly was. My obstetrician wanted another measuring scan done at 32 weeks. I went to a very good clinic this time, not my local hospital. And baby was measuring 42 percentile. What a difference! I have put on 9 kgs so far which is nearly 20 pounds. And i will be getting induced in just over 1 week. Im so excited. The one thing i never did was a blood test before i fell pregant. So i had something to compare my fasting level to. If i have a 2nd baby i will be onto things alot easier diet and insulin wise. I have found limited information out there regarding gestational diabetes and it makes it very hard.

How big were your babies if I can ask? 😅❤️ I had gestational diabetes with my 1st but he was only 7 lbs some oz born at 3 days before due date. And now I’m pregnant again and doing the glucose test soon. I am worried I might have it again too.

We’ve talked on Instagram some. That’s so terrible how rude she was! But at my 28 week, baby boy was weighing 3lb 11oz, im almost 35 weeks now, going for another measurement Friday if it doesn’t snow im so nervous and it makes me nervous they have waited SO long to do another ultrasound because I feel like he is really big right now.

With my second baby he was measuring four weeks ahead from the third trimester to birth I had multiple ultrasounds to make sure his due date wasn’t calculated wrong, I ended up having a 9 lbs. 7 oz. baby but he was perfectly healthy and my doctor never made any comments about excessive weight gain or my diet affecting my baby and that seems so rude I can’t believe she said that 😳especially since you haven’t gained an excessive amount of weight I’ve gained 40 pounds in both of my pregnancies and it never affected mine or my babies health

I’m only 9 minutes in this video but I’m so sorry your provider isn’t giving you the care you deserve and desire 😢 I just want to say, you can still switch to a midwife!! It definitely isn’t too late. You 100% deserve the pregnancy and care that you want. I went the midwife route here in Canada for my first pregnancy and the care isn’t even comparable. They advocate for you. Even if you’re nervous at the thought you can always schedule a meeting with a midwife to know in your gut if it would be worth it for you now. Anyways.. don’t wanna sound pushy or anything but hearing you say that in your next pregnancy you want that made me really feel for you. ✨

Being a stress adding provider makes pregnancy sad. I don’t understand how compassion isn’t something all doctors should have as a mandatory course. I’m getting my glucose test done this Thursday and I have been nervous because I feel like I’ve packed in the weight quick within the last two check ups. Idk, but you’re doing your best mama! It does help you have the background knowledge. 🤍 happy bumping!

Yikes! As someone who is actually overweight and gained way more than you in her pregnancy, I can only imagine how your doctor would've spoken to me. I know you were nervous to share with us, but I think it is important to highlight that every woman in every body is susceptible to healthcare providers with bad bedside manner. I genuinely cannot believe how many stories I've heard aside from yours of pregnant women being made to feel like absolute crap. You look absolutely gorgeous kilean! We, of course, are our own worst critics, but I'm here to tell you that you not only look great as you grow your baby girl, but you're also providing such valuable content to all of us moms! Keep your head up!

So sorry about your experience at your 28 week appointment. I was super sensitive about weight gain during pregnancy & asked my doctor to not let me see it or talk about it unless she thought it was really impacting my health negatively. Obviously everyone gains weight differently throughout pregnancy & I wish more doctors were sensitive to that, but you’re doing great!! And that baby girl is going to be gorgeous 💕

Hi Kilean, I’m so sorry about how your Ob spoke to you - sounds very unprofessional & not helpful at all! Thank you so much for speaking out. I had GD in my last pregnancy (my boy is 16 months) and I’m now 18 weeks pregnant again and dreading getting GD again! Are you or Nathaniel quite tall by any chance? A sonographer told me the growth scans can be wonky if it’s a particularly tall baby as one of the measurements is femur length. I was measuring at 75% per centile with my boy and was told he was going to be huge but he was 7lbs 8 which is completely average - he is 99% per centile with his height though! Would love to see a what I eat in the day with GD, I couldn’t find any meal ideas in my last pregnancy either! Loved this vlog, Rocky is such a charmer! Xx❤️

It’s so frustrating when a provider treats you that way. :( She definitely could have been more gentle. It sounds like she was almost scolding you instead of having a conversation with you. With my son I had a whole list of questions for my OB because my goal was unmedicated birth. When she walked in (after I waited 90 minutes for her) she said “in a hurry today trying to get people in an out!” Before she even said hello. I got to my car after that and called a midwife’s office. 😅 I ended up delivering with a midwife and loved it! ALSO I was 24 weeks when I switched, it’s never too late to do that!

The measurement is not accurate. It’s the fundal height so they measure from the top to the bottom of the uterus. Depending where bubs is sitting it could totally change the measurements. It’s one cm per week so at 28 weeks the average is 28cm fundal height. If bubs was sitting on your back it would be heaps lower. Also ultrasound measurement can be 20% either side. I was always 2cm over on fundal height and bubs was born 3.5kg or 50%
