The one song guaranteed to bring me to tears. Every damn time. Oh, and it's the singer himself who has been mortally wounded in battle and saying goodbye to his comrades.

Mark wrote this after the War between the UK and Argentina over the Falklands 2 April 1982 - 14 June 1982. In Afghanistan the British Tank regiment used to play this every time they came back after an engagement. One of the greatest anti war songs ever.

This track reaches into your soul and rips it out. Such a powerful track and timeless. Mark Knofler makes his guitar sing I'm sure it's connected directly to his soul. This has been a favourite track of mine since I first heard it as a child in the 80's and it never ceases to bring me to tears every time I hear it.

Mark Knofler does not make his guitar sing, he makes it cry.

Sung from the point of view of a dying soldier saying goodbye to his ‘brothers in arms’ this is a masterpiece and only one of many brilliant dire straits songs.

It's ultimately an anti war song....sadly misunderstood by many ex army types who are still gung ho about war

The lyrics are written in the voice of a soldier dying, he is reflecting before his death....there are so many different worlds and so many different suns, and we have just one world, but we live in different worlds...in the end he says goodbye to his brothers in arms and explains that we a fools to make war on or brothers in arms... 😪

That's why Dire Straits were/are so popular in Europe. He makes his guitar sing. There are so much songs I could reccommend but I think you should explore them for your own. With love from The Netherlands.❤ This was a sad song. The best anti-war song I think. But they have lots of happier songs.

You might like to check out the live version of this song from when Dire Straits headlined the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute Concert at Wembley Stadium in 1988. It was a couple of years prior to Mandela being released after 27 years of incarceration and was seen by millions around the world, helping to put pressure on the South African apartheid government. Before the beginning of what is probably the most emotional performance of the song he has ever given, lead singer, songwriter and guitarist Mark Knopfler said 4 powerful words that still resonate today: "One humanity. One justice."

Your reaction was mine too. His guitar his voice and lyrics hit hard. That is an amazing talent. I understand some military funerals play this song. There mustn’t be a dry eye in the church. It’s almost too painful as it is, without having lost someone you love.

"Twisting By The Pool" a Dire Straits single(EP) release will show you their upbeat side. A kind of elixir for a 'Brothers In Arms" malaise in a radio play format. Or anything else from the Mark Knopfler/Dire Straits catalog is worth a listen, the man just makes good music with great musicians in any incarnation.

I see you reacted to a Jeff Healey song recently. You might enjoy "I Think I Love You Too Much" from The Jeff Healey Band's Hell To Pay album. It was written by Mark Knopfler, the lead guitarist and singer of Dire Straits and Mark plays second guitar and contributes backing vocals to the recording. You might then like to watch Dire Straits performing the song live at Knebworth '90 where they were joined by another guitar legend, Eric Clapton. Mark and Eric trading guitar solos is magical.

You are right, its a masterpiece. It was written about the Falklands war of 1982 So relevant with the war in Ukraine. Another song that I find very effective and moving is "On the Turning Away" by Pink Floyd, the live version is amazing and gets me every time. You have a good heart, thanks for this reaction

"We are fools to make war on our brothers in arms" Brothers in arms relates to the brotherhood of man. Sadly many comments on the original completely misunderstand this as a song about their chosen nationalist army

Loved your reaction. If you feel like listening to it again, may I suggest the full 7-minute version here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b9-bjcZmqpy5dXk.html For some reason the video version fades out after 5 minutes, always feels slightly incomplete to me. There are also many live versions (Dire Straits played it in most of their concerts), my favourite is this one kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p5iiq5Z6pqutg3U.html
