Those flaps are I think one of the coolest things I've seen, the fact on landing they increase to act like spoilers/drag..... so cool

The classic SAS story from the 1980s (or earlier ?). Mrs. Ella Jensen, living near Copenhagen airport, always watching the aircraft taking off and landing, decided to take the short hop over to Malmö in Sweden. It was scheduled as an intermediate stop on the way to Stockholm. After departure, fog developed and Malmö had to be bypassed, getting on to Stockholm. Meals were served on board. On the return flight, fog did still exist in Malmö and had spread to Copenhagen too. The flight had to divert to Hamburg in Germany. The crew had clocked up their allowable hours and everyone was transferred to the top-notch Hotel "Vier Jahreszeiten". Posh Dinner was served and Ella Jensen had a pleasant sleep in a comfortable bed. The next morning the aircraft took off to Copenhagen again, landing there safely, the crew having served a snack to all passengers. Malmö was still covered in fog. Ella Jensen decided to give it a miss, thanked everyone - and walked home. A few weeks later, a kind "fairy" in the form of an SAS employee knocked on her door, handing over a cheque for a full refund of the fare - as she never had made it to Malmö, her destination of intention. Pessimists suspected, THAT airport could have been still shrouded in fog on that day too ... These days, SAS has closed down flights between those "neighbouring" locations, as the train service over the Öresund Bridge and Tunnel is more suitable.

Ah, yes, Baguetteville, next to Cité Croissant, capital of the Commune de la Boulangerie.

Yep, CFB Bagotville is operated as an air force base by the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and is one of two bases in the country using the CF-18 Hornet fighter/interceptor, the other being CFB Cold Lake in Alberta.

I can tell you being a private pilot that the second leg you landed at was a very tough landing for those pilots and they did extremely well!!!! flying an instrument only (ifr) approach/landing fully in the clouds while only being able to see the runway with probably less than 1000ft of visual clearance before touchdown was impressive!

Quebec people are very nice. They say Bonjour, you say hello, they switch seamlessly to English. Easy Peasy.

If you want a strange experience, I recommend taking off and landing at SNA (Orange County/Santa Ana Airport) in Southern California. It has the steepest angle of ascent and descent at least in the US because the rich people in Newport Beach want the airport but hate the noise. It would have been scarier the first time I flew out of SNA if my mom wouldn't have warned me. Also, they stop the engines once they reach Newport Beach to further not upset the people living there. Also if you land/take off from SNA you could fly 10-20 feet over cars going on the most congested freeways in California. We've already had a plane land on the freeway a few years ago.... I generally prefer to drive 1-2 hours away to LAX because the take offs and landings there are nicer and less stressful.

Have you considered asking a pilot to tell you what is going on in English? Most pilots have to be fluent in English because most contact with air traffic control is in English, world wide. Or there is a good chance that one of the passengers speaks English & could translate for you.

We decided to play a drinking game every time Noel sighs or says "I don't know". All I can say is that I wish we had better wine.

You should go to St. Pierre et Miquelon (French Island off Newfoundland). The fly an ATR combi. They fly out of Montreal, Halifax and St. John's.

Bagotville is indeed an airforce base. It's a pity you didn't stick around because they have an aviation museum and an annual air show.

The loo review reminded me of sitting in the second to last row on the BA 747, in the 2 seat window area where the fuselage narrows. It was a long daytime transatlantic flight, and some one or ones were having the worst time on the toilet the on and off the whole flight. It was SO FOUL that my wife and I just started to laugh because there was no escaping it, in these "special" seats we paid extra for! I wish I had been doing videos back in that day to make the suffering at least into entertainment 🤣.

As someone who was a tween in the Montreal area in the mid-1980s, my main point of reference for Baie-Comeau (yeah, Quebec adds unnecessary hyphens to place names) is still that it is the birthplace of Brian Mulroney, prime minister of Canada from 1984 to 1993.

When I was in the USAF in the early/mid 80’s we would go to Bagotville with our F-106’s for air defense exercises…

The civilian air terminal at CFB Bagotville serves Saguenay (pop 150,000) an industrial area and the Saguenay Fjord is a cruise ship destination. Air Force One (with Trump) was at Bagotville 2 years ago when the G7 summit was held in nearby Charlevoix.....And I'm sure that Pascan pilot is bilingual and would have replied in English if asked.

I notice the muffled "Merci". Even though asking for english may be a hot button issue for some working in Quebec atm, you can always ask "Vous parlez en Anglais?" Or just say "Je n'ai pas parle en francais" (Tu or Vous is singular, Tu means you know someone or their family and Vous is you dont know someone)

Just now watching your Quebec videos. Don’t know how I missed it. Your first stop is Bagotville. Not baguetteville. Lol! Near Chicoutimi (it’s in Saguenay actually, about 600km north of Montreal). Big airforce base there. Only airforce base where fighter jets can land in Quebec. Anyway, you reaaaaaaally picked some remote places in Quebec to land. Wish I had known you were in Montreal or in my beautiful province. Saw you were staying near my office building. I used to get coffee at that Starbucks. Second stop that was skipped was Baie Comeau not La Baie Comeau.

Wow! After nearly 30 years for this plane ever since its first service with American Eagle, this plane is still up and running with another airline! At least, some airlines trying to keep it a little bit longer with them is better than being brought into the desert and crushing it!

Landing in the second leg was particularly impressive . The pilots had executed an ifr approach in a full clouds with just over 900ft of visual clearance.

I hope that was a big map not the ‘fix it now’ manual

I do love it when you've no clue where you're going lol 😁 It does bring back a lot of memories too, I used to fly the J31 and J41 quite a bit when I worked for BAE on their corporate aircraft, the J31 we lovingly called the 'Vomit Comet' sadly they replaced the 41 with an Embraer 145 but the jet was a lot quicker but that was funny when it was half empty and they had to balance the plane lol

You should come to BC during your stay in Canada, there's lots to explore around the west coast on Pacific Coastal, a very decent airline!

There's something utterly charming about flying those old turboprops In the US you barely find them anymore thanks to the somewhat generic RJs. I long for the days when I hopped on Twin Otters, CASA 212s, ATRs Shorts 360s and of course the Jetstreams

I am a retired airline flight dispatcher and I'll give you a clue: the decision to divert to another airport is made in the air, not on the ground prior to departure. When you took off from wherever you were the plane was going to its planned destination, whatever it was. You jumped on the "worry train" a tad early. Start wondering after you are airborne and some kind of announcement is made and the airplane makes a clear turn onto another course. Until then, be at peace. And not landing at your second stop? If the aircraft had no passengers going there and the airport had no passengers out of there, that is not big deal. It is better for the passengers to avoid a needless stop and continue on. Your worries and concerns were needless.

I just found your channel. First video … “who is this guy?” …25 videos later.. “Noel is brilliant!” Really enjoying your unpretentiousness and honesty..

I flew in and out of Bagotville many times in the late 70's early 80's whilst joining and leaving ships at, nearby, Port Alfred. Back then Dorval was the domestic airport in Montreal, Mirabelle was the International airport.

Lol...kewl to look at what locals know through a new lens...I think those gestures were Quebecois for turbulence/gusty winds. Now just imagine this trip in winter with stronger winds, sub-zero temps, icing and blinding snow squalls. Come back next winter to Northern Ontario.

Yes, Bagotville indeed is a Canadian Forces base, hence the fighters I suppose. I noticed the pilot said something about a connectling flight, so maybe that's for the Baie-Commeau.

Only made it 8mins into watching this video whilst playing that game Vlada Mykhailova suggested in the comments before puking everywhere, starting a fight with front door (the door won) and demanding a large donor kebab with all the trimmings from the cat (don’t even own a cat) working the grill in my kitchen. Absinthe probably wasn’t the best drink to play this game with. Though I am imagining most other drinks would yield fairly similar results given the amount of Noel not knowing stuff/whats going on/where he is and sighing after every other word. Still, good vid!
