It's a huge day full of friends (including two people we haven't seen in many months!) and unfortunately a few stressors, too. Looks like I've entered into the very elite club of "folks who have experienced transient global amnesia 3 times". Fortunately I had a lot of friends around to help me through it.

I know the TGA stuff is scary. I was joking with you about it on Breakfast Stream after this, but honestly that's just my way of handling being worried for my friend. I'm just glad that you have good people around that care a lot about you. Love ya, bud

I know TGA has to be super scary, but I am so glad that you are documenting it. I went with my mom to the ER a month or so ago with what we thought might be stroke related. Turns out it was TGA. When I heard that, I was immediately relieved, because I already knew what it was. She said she felt like she was dreaming while she was awake, and she was repeating things she didn't know she'd already said. We were teaching preschool choir at our church, and she couldn't remember motions to a song or the children's names. She also said she felt like she was seeing talk boxes, like from a comic book. I am just so, so grateful that you are willing to share your experiences.

My mom's doctors told her that it could be related to stress, and that it's more common for people to have TGA to also have migraines, which is something both ahe and you have in common.

@@BHLani Yep, TGA often appears in folks with histories (or family histories) of migraines, and I’ve got both. Sorry to hear about your mom, but I’m glad it was TGA and not anything more serious! Lots of conditions that have overlapping symptoms, so it’s good to get checked out.

I know some people may want to know sooner rather than later, but from 11:32 to 20:00, he is mildly experiencing the TGA. He has a time stamp later in the video, but I thought an actual time stamp may help. At 20:00, he starts talking about it and how it felt. Glad it was mild. Very interesting to learn more about the mysteries of the brain.

I'm glad that TGA doesn't seem to have any links to Alzheimer's or Dementia, but it genuinely feels scary knowing you could be talking about plans, daily routines, or enjoying company with friends, and then suddenly, you completely forget who your friends are and what you were doing, only to then come back to your senses and realizing you don't recall or remember what you had just did. You know what's even more eerie? Stephen's wearing the same shirt in this vlog the last time he discussed experiencing TGA.

I can't imagine how scary it is not recalling stuff. I recently had a stupid experience of me getting extremely drunk and waking up with no wallet, keys or memory of why I was asleep on a hospital chair. I am not saying they are the same thing at all as mine was self inflicted and me being irresponsible (everything turned out fine) but the thought of gaps in my memory where I could have done anything is just scary. Luckily you had friends with you to help out and support you but yeah, memory loss of any kind is terrorfying and I hope this never happens a third time.

“Exceedingly rare that it happens more than twice” so basically your brain is a shiny legendary Pokémon. On a more serious note, I’m glad this is something that you have recognized and that it doesn’t seem that it hurts you. It still sucks that it happens, and I’ll be sending you all the good vibes and keeping you in my prayers. On the “not a doctor but bad brain running in the family” note, if you aren’t taking a brain-specific supplement, you should ask your doctor for recommendations next time you see them. Even if current research doesn’t support TGA pointing to future issues, it can’t hurt you to take brain vitamins.

The fact that you experienced TGA not just once, not just twice but *three times* when it's super rare to even have it happen once... I don't even know what to say. I've had vaguely similar things happen where I said the same things several times to people without knowing and also doing the same thing again and again because I didn't remember having already done it, but I still don't think it was TGA. I've mentioned in a comment on the first TGA vlog that I've had memory issues for years now since I got burnt out from stress, but those few instances of memory constantly resetting were terrifying. And now you've experienced this three entire times in a relatively short amount of time and for much longer each time. I'm so sorry it had to happen even once. Brains are indeed weird, and oftentimes I feel like they just exist to make life harder for us. 😅

I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this again. Obviously, I don't want to speculate, but there's one thing that I haven't heard anybody mention that might be worth asking your doctor about: Do you know if you've ever had COVID, even asymptomatically? Some people I know who've gotten Long COVID after the initial infection receded have had various, otherwise-inexplicable neurological effects and issues as a result of the physical impact the virus had on their brain. Again, I have no way of knowing that's what's going on or any specific reason to suspect it. It just might be worth considering if the problem continues.

Either way, good vibes that you eventually you get any answers as to why this occurs. At least in this instance, you weren't freaked out over this incident and it's documented in portions well in the latter portion of this vlog where you were actively experiencing it on camera for future references. I know this is scary, but I'm glad you are doing okay. I have a friend that has like a short term memory problem sometimes. She has disability help at college since certain subjects just don't get allocated correctly in her memory, stuff like that, but anyway. We have a similar conversation every week since she forgets exactly what we talked about last time, and sometimes she repeats herself the same day. I was pretty used to it since I interacted with my 102 year old great grandma a lot as she lost her memory, but it has taken a bit to be used to it with her since she is like 26 and most of the time her memory is fine. Like you say, brains be weird, but surprisingly stuff works out. Hope you don't have to deal with this again but glad you have people looking out for you and you have a good perspective on it if you do. Thank you for sharing these experiences with us.

I feel like it was a good thing of Brandon and Alex investigating it as they did over just overtly telling you because it resulted in determining the symptoms of the episode and how long it happened to compare to the last ones. Plus, as people new to seeing it in person, I imaging it can be a little jarring to be in position of "I'm with a friend, and something is going on with their memory that is not right," and i think they handled it well in helping collecting information for you and making sure you were ok while the vlog didn't catch as much of it while you were riding the episode out.

Btw, the vlog where you talked about your TGA was just called “Transient Global Amnesia” from 2.16.22. There’s also a follow-up vlog called, well… “TGA Follow-up Vlog”… you were very direct with these titles, though understandably so. Also it was bothering me that you kept saying 7 years, so I checked and I think the vlog titled “Grilled Peaches” might be the last time you used the grill, which was 7.30.17, only 6 years ago (though this is assuming you never used it without filming). I thought you guys must’ve used it sometime in 2018, but I couldn’t find anything based on solely thumbnails, titles, important dates, and my own memory. I guess I was wrong, 7 years isn’t that off.😅

I'm going to make an educated guess and say that some of the big factors in making this episode less severe than the others is your supportive group of friends and knowing what TGA is. Knowing what my eczema was actually lessened the severity of my rashes prior to my "enrollment" with Dupixent. Having people who know even a little about how you work is also good in a bad situation, because they know how to work with you to help you keep control.

@@vikurtz I really hope it doesn't develop into something else. Does 3 times net you a lottery win? Or do you need a full five for the bingo? In all seriousness, hopefully having slightly different symptoms this time could end up being really helpful if you talk to a doc about it? Like, the slight differences between the first two and this time could help pinpoint more precisely what's going on. Maybe help pin down a trigger? (It's gonna be stress isn't it, I don't recall the full details from the first vlog talking about it I should go review it) At least it's uncommon, if it's only once every 1.5-2 years you can... not really plan for it but at least kinda guess "it might be coming in the next x months", plus y'all are getting a feel for how to handle it on the rare occasion it does occur.

You mentioned a headache the past times it happened, but then also is it a case of being told that it is happening a cause for it to end sooner? like you're slowly able to collect your surroundings when you're told "hay you kind of have amnesia". It sounded like Alex and Brandon didn't tell you immediately which I mean to their credit they didn't experience it as much as Mal has and like you said it didn't seem as severe this time, but I do wonder if they had mentioned it a few times that you had amnesia in the moment if it would have helped. OR if not telling you prevented the headache? I have 0 idea and purely speculating.

Stephen i am apauled that you do not understand that if you got a GPU you USE a GPU and integrated Graphics suck.

I think being appalled might be a little overkill, hahaha. I’m aware that if I were playing a game, sure, I’d use the display plugged into the GPU. But to me, coming from the Mac world, a port is a port. When I’m not doing anything visually intensive, it seems wild to me that it would matter at all which ports are being used, and even _crazier_ that the computer would begin crashing from using certain ports. I am… not used to that.

@@stephenvlog it's really interesting to see this perspective on it, and it makes sense. I grew up with windows machines here so I'm fairly familiar with most practices regarding them like using the GPU only for displays. However, put me in front of a Mac like they did in high school for a digital design class and I am SO LOST. For example, it took me an embarrassing amount of time to realize control was command on a mac keyboard, and to get used to the dock for all the applications.

@@stephenvlog maybe it was too strong of a word. I understand it to a point. But when you select a dedicated graphics cards. It makes sense you want to use it and not the CPU. If you use the GPU you free up processing power of a CPU. Typically.
