Project 66 is where I am making the car "type 66 hoon" from cyberpunk 2077 in real life. This is the first in-depth video where I describe some of the different challenges and complications with the project.

Dude, scale the car down. Just like Casey Putsch scaled up the Lancia Zero. That way the proportions stay true an maybe things like wheels and tires fall better into place. Best of luck to you.

yes, but also along the way look at how it compares to other things in the game like other vehicles, lane width, lampposts, character models etc, the goal shouldn't be to make it the size it is in game, the goal should be to make it fit into the environment the way it does in the game

The nomad type 66 quadras are genuinely my most favourite cars in the entire game. I saw someone is making the turbo-r v-tech here on yt, and hoped that maybe someday someone would make the nomad type 66. Cant express how happy and excited i am to see this through! Rooting for you and eager to follow the entire process!

Frameless windows are actually quite common and have been available for a long time not just in Teslas, my 2005 Audi TT for example also has no frame around the window and it goes down a centimeter or two when opening the door

oh yeah the in game model is definitly scaled in proportions. artist made the car with a very chopped roof and then in order for the characters to fit they had to scale it up. you can sorta notice it with how tiny the seats look compared to a normal car and how the whole thing kinda just looks a lil extra chunky in game.

So glad you're sharing your journey. I wish you the best of luck. I hope to one day do the same and meet you on the road somewhere. I was wondering about the door mechanism too a while back and the most aesthetic way I came up with was to have panels that cover the sliding mechanism, fold away when the door opens. It would mechanically attach to the slider and move back in place when the door was closed. This would add complexity but it would fit the final aesthetic more while giving room for the door mechanism.

Thouroughly excited to see this actually coming to life! This project is definitely going to be costly😅, as for wheel rims, arent there covers that you can add to the side of the wheel? You could find some or even hand make them as they are usually plastic, so you'd end up getting a very similar result! I don't have alot of knowledge about cars or physics (even though i am studying physics, yipee), but your thoughts seem to check out, great video overall cant wait for more news :))

Ooh, that's actually a very good idea. I hadn't thought of that. With that I should be able to get some relatively cheap rims (or doing spoked rims to show off the brakes and suspension when I want) and then have it look exactly like I want. Also, good luck with physics! Physics 2 was the end of my ideas of studying electrical engineering. As soon as anyone starts doing the right hand rule with their hands my eyes start to cross.

In the section where you talk about the headlights I noticed there's a bit of a gap between the front bumper, crashbar, ram, object and the start of the hood, leaving a triangular gap as the front is curved but the start of the bumper forms a sort of T shape. Perhaps you could fill in that gap with a pop up headlight? This would fill in the empty space while keeping the original look of the body. To keep it from being to bulky and sticking out so much maybe a design akin to the new popups on the Mazda Iconic SP concept could work? Additonally, there's plenty of space below that part of the bumper, as its in front of the wheel which would make it easier to fit in a popup mechanism. Or, the headlights could be integrated into that front bumper and have them flip out similar to 67-69 camaros or other cars where they are hidden in the grille/bumper. I'm not really a mechanic or 3d modeler though so its just an idea.

There may be easier materials to work with than glass, and in 2077 they likely will have fancier or cheaper materials. Maybe some kind of clear plastic is better? It can be better moulded than glass to the required shapes. My structural engineering isn’t a forte, but it may be easier to work with a more ductile material and install a proper rollcage so the windshield needn’t take stress when you inevitably use the car as it was designed to in game

you would not be able to score cut a windshield since it is laminated. or you might, but i dont know how you would break to pieces of glass, and the plastic between at the same time. Using plastic for the windshield is not uncommon, it is usually not advised in other than custom built cars, due to the windshield sometimes being loadbearing. The lessened scratch resistance should be outweighed by their ease of production, you should look into the plastic used in headlights. For rims did you consider using multipiece. might be better for your application to have some more choice in the offset and styling. you should wait with the dampers and springs until you are close to finishing the models, you will need to know the weights of each corner before buying so that you get a correct spring rate. i dont know the vehicle code that are applicable in the states, but from an EU standpoint all the lights need to be redesigned to be symetrical and follow the colour roles. a in universe solution to your light design problem might be to use the front and rear from the type 66 leaving them "unmodifed", the light designs i have seen from cyberpunk all rely on led's, i dont think you will get the look, without either spending ages on light design or stealing from audi matrix lights or similar. the easy way is to use projector type lights with a square projector housing. cool project, good luck

For the rim, you could simply use something similar to the rotiform aerodiscs, either trying to simulate the original design or adding something different to it, as, in my opinion, some basic aerodiscs would fit the car design fairly well. Good luck with your project!

Why not proportinally scale down the real car to match a real chassis/suspension more closely? the Cyberpunk cars are exagerrated because 'videogame' but if you just scale yours down you should be able to really save a lot of time and money using some off the shelf parts, or at least the modifications won't have to be as extensive/custom.

most of the cars in CP2077 are not buildable irl. try to drive your car with 20" of foam on each side around your area and you'll understand. anywhere out of america it's completely impossible. when the lad picked up the mall crawler wheels, i had a chuckle. they are HEAVY. if you're hoping to get a model 3 single to move that thing, even scaled down by 10%, so it looses 20cm in width... you're still lugging around over 400kilos worth of wheels, instead of, say, the original 120. that's heat and friction. that's a solid hit to the range of the car. the protrusions around the car will need to go, as they will not pass road worthiness anywhere outside of florida. the doors arent really the problem... the problem is that there's no donor imaginable for all the cars in the game. scratchbuilt cars never get completed unless you completely focus on them for years, and eve, then most of them have made heavy use of factory parts whenever possible. if you dont, you get something like project binky. which, if you dont know, squeezed a celica GTS inside a mini cooper over the span of 4+ years. i personally dont think most people will remember cp2077 fondly enough for that long. i would strongly recommend digging into the kitcar world to see what it takes. benjamin workshop built his GT40, casey putch has experience in building racecars, on top of superfast matt. the more factory elements the car has, the more chances it has to be completed.

Why did you decide to make the car battery powered? Wouldn’t it be cheaper to buy an older v8 from say an early 2000’s mustang for example? The batteries in EV’s tend to go bad after a few years, a problem which engines don’t quite have (they have horsepower loss but it’s only major if the engine is significantly older such as a ‘65 mustang for example)
