I honestly love the idea of vlad just deciding to be a foster dad with his giant house and immortal lifespan

Suddenly i want to play this family,, storyline being Vlad starting an orphanage as his blood bank, but afterwards creating good relationships with all his kids and making sure all of them succeed in life,, ending with Vlad having pristine reputation,, and his house becoming more alive and (slightly) more vibrant.

I challenge James to play this household for 1 Sims week before he restores the normal household size

Petition to make this a series where James goes through and fixes townies homes? This is fantastic. I would never play it, but will probably download it cuz I hate how empty the original is and have no desire to actually decorate it myself.

The interior ended up reminding me of the mansion from the Umbrella Academy. It's a cool reno, much more useful than you'd think, Vlad often adopts a bunch of kids in my saves, and looking at all the graves and coffins, he used to have quite a clan in the past, definitely not out of character for him to try to rebuild it. It works as an orphanage or a hotel too. Way more victorian and pokey than the original weird floorplan.

So . . . is Oak going to end up with Ebony to make all this worthwhile because it would be sort of . . . in the family?

This feels like a bit of necessary community service for all the chaos the Bigwallets have caused over the generations LOL

The fact that all of the rooms are different shapes and sizes, and winding hallways, makes it feel so much more authentic!

As someone with a family with a lot of antique (like, medieval) furniture, can confirm that a lot of the really big pieces were made to disassemble in chunks

Just an idea : add a bowling alley or two in the basement. Plenty of room and I think it would be funny for Vlad's grandkids to play while he sleeps and to wake him up. I can see that as even being a dare for the teenagers haha. Fantastic build anyways, love floorplan challenges like this. :)

I definitely would have made generous use of bunk beds and made kind of a dormitory. 😂 That’s what I usually do in big households.

the indoor-facing windows are so cool somehow yet so sad lol. usually indoor-facing windows give me a deep feeling of “i’m trapped” dread (thinking of abandoned 60s hotel resorts that already gives me heebie jeebies), but i kinda like these haha. they’re perf for the sims who black out their windows w curtains anyway. i’m a natural light girlie lmao!

On the practicalities of sims builds, I always think about hydraulic installations. Where the drains would go, where the water heater would go, if the bathrooms are too far apart, i imagine one of them never getting more than a bit of warm water. I try to stack bathrooms and build them next to the kitchen, specially in cheaper houses because they wouldn’t afford a lot of pipes.

The way James structure the bedrooms reminds me of how in my country landlords will partition a house to hell to fit in as many tenants as possible. The worst I came across was 15 "small rooms" in a house with originally 3 bedrooms..

"In my defense, Vlad does like Boho decor" got me. I laughed out loud at that.

This house makes me want to play Vlad and start my own ginormous family. Maybe, do something like the umbrella academy and train up the sims special abilities.

When James discovered Vlad's family in the LP, I found it so amusing that one of Vlad's kids is Laurie Straud. Spelled differently, but there's something appropriate in Vlad having a daughter named after Laurie Strode, the classic "last girl" from the original Halloween. ;)

A peony pink boho Vampire mansion with a giant playground in the garden would have been hilarious too. But the narrow corridor is a vibe.

I headcannon that they had their dad/grandpa Vlad carry the furniture into the rooms through his teleporting bat or mist form. He's actually doting despite his grim grumpy front and the kids all get terribly spoiled when he thinks no one is looking.

i’ve only played sims 1, 2 and 3 .. i’ve never played with sims 4 to this day and this build and household makes me want to get it so bad with all the packs and mods haha, i love it 🧛 looks so chaotic and fun !

Vlad is definitely the “grumpy old dad who didn’t want the cat but they keep sort of hanging around and then he adopts them because he loves them” kinda dad I feel 🤣 Loved this reno, so chaotic!!!!

I actually have use for this in one of my games!!! I had someone marry into my legacy family, and only then found out her aspiration was to be a master vampire. I never usually play with vampires (I bought the pack for the build/buy and cas), but, for some reason, I decided to have fun with this storyline. She became a vampire, ran amok within the family and their friends, made enemies of both the kids she'd had whilst human, and then walked out. Whereupon she seduced Vlad, moved into his house, killed him off, and proceeded to start her vampire dynasty. At last count, I think it was her and ten kids living in this house, and I never have properly renovated it to make it work. So, thank you, James, for doing the work for me😂 I don't have a working pc right now, but, once I can play again, I'll be downloading this!

Omg you actually went and did it XD (surprised and very excited) Ngl I like the house more like this, the countless small rooms + narrow and twisting hallways are much creepier than the massive empty rooms it had before. It's more claustrophobic this way. And it contrasts nicely with the roomier first floor & basement, it almost feels like a game level from a horror game!! (now I kinda want to do a similar thing but instead of only bedrooms it's nonsensical storage rooms full of crates & bedrooms) (I bet the final boss would be in the basement)

Want even more accidental chaos? Keep the ingame neighborhood stories, and increase the household size using MCCC BUT also turn on MCCC'S story progression and watch all sorts of pregnancies and marriages take over your game.

Yes please for modular tables! I was trying to make a giant table the way you have in some university classrooms for discussions, and it was such a headache.

Realism in Sims: a kitchen counter is like 60cm I think, so that’s usually the measurement I use when I recreate real houses in Sims (useful for moving).

Idk if you ever read bram strokers dracula but the castle is described as a really confusing maze. It would be so cool if you tried to create it with winding confusing hallways and stair cases, hidden doors and a creepy basement.

my personal headcannon is that, when left to his own devices, Vlad realizes the error of his ways and reconciles that he keeps turning random sims because he's lonely, so instead he starts adopting sims in need to fill his huge, expensive mansion.

You had me laughing at the really small hallway. Believe it or not my parents when we were younger decided to make the garage into a family room and to get to that they broke through the linen closet to make a hallway. If you are over 250lbs or really pregnant you are not getting into that room. LOL Also the windows from the bedrooms looking down to the living area remind me of a casino in Las Vegas where the hotel rooms have windows looking down to the slot machines. So everything you fit in the house I've seen in real life. That was an amazing build.

Yes, I want to collect gnomes. Also, imagine night lights/mood lamps that are made from game items like glowy gnomes, Easter eggs, etc. And I've never even managed to get the good posters that were being sold in the past, the ones based on the in-game base game movie-style posters.

Apart from the narrow corridors, which are inevitable, I actually love this build so much lol. The big living room, the mezzanine and all the small bedrooms really give a haunted victorian mansion vibe

I have an interior window in real life--when they were rebuilding the house in '97 (originally built in the mid 1800s; it had been unoccupied for a while and gotten unliveable), they noticed there was a cool view from the upstairs into the two-story-tall kitchen. There's pros and cons--it was cool to throw paper airplanes and stuff out of as kids (or now, for our nieces)... but it lets in noise, light, and kitchen smells. So now we keep a block of foam, covered with white duct tape, in it most of the time.
