I’m questioning why your app has me putting down high nitrogen in late June the hottest driest time in the north east. I’m not a stranger to lawn care but are you sure but are you sure I’m supposed to be putting down 24-0-6 in late June early July????

@@tmw2189 make sure you have the app set to "cool season" lawn under settings. Typically the app recommends Flagship in spring and Stress Blend in summer unless you have a soil test in there, then the results are based on the results of that. Either way, Flagship app rates only put down .75 lbs/N/1000 and 50% of the N is slow release so it's not really all that much N anyway so you will be fine either way.

You need to start a lawn care company. I would love to have a lawn care company that is as knowledgeable and diligent as you are. I've gone through a few lawn care companies here in Florida, not too far from you in Tampa. And they all seem to just repeat the same thing, with no attention to detail, lots of weeds, and tons of bare spots. I think they spend about 30 seconds here once a month.

Big thanks for this video! Too many times I have seen professional lawn care companies throw down fertilizer and leave a pellet mess all in the sidewalk and ignore the local codes. Very humbling to see lawn care done with respect to our waterways.

My T Nex PGR and 3336F with bifen was a great success. No mowing this weekend. Grass barely grew. Interesting it did not affect NUT SEDGE and those stood out, so i picked them by hand very easy. It prevents their seeds stalks, only the leaves grow long.

I put down a combo of Fusillade II and Recognition on my Zenith zoysia lawn, one time at 12 oz per acer and another at 6 oz per acer of Fusillade. At 12 oz per acer, it nuked half my yard. Dead patches of zoysia everywhere with the rest completely smashed and injured. It took months to recover with reseeding. I just tried it at 6oz per acer and my yard is still severely injured, with smaller dead patches appearing. It could still get worse as it hasn't fully completed doing it's job yet. I will not be using the combo again. Not worth it at all.

Been a big fan of all the YM ferts and products; I LOVE LOVE my backpack sprayer! Been experimenting with some of The Andersons new stuff too but I enjoy the synergy and simplicity of the YM app and YM products keeping it easy to follow. On that note Allyn, here in GA based on my early spring soil tests I have low N, K, and Iron and a middle-ish range of P and the YM app is telling me for most of my summer to use Starter Fertilizer. My Bermuda lawn is a healthy green with minimal weeds. Tempted to use Flagship or Freedom that's been sitting around; should I just trust the app or throw the others down?

For sure if you already bought Flagship or Freedom, use those up. No need to buy more until those are gone. From there then you can choose to go with the app or choose your own adventure! That's the fun of it for me is trying different things to see how the lawn reacts.

Lake County has a ban, but seems to be a lot less restrictive. (Maybe) Seems to be only limited to within 15 feet from any water body from June 1 to Sept 30. Interesting though from Oct 1 to May 31st it restriction application of fertilizer to no less than 50% slow release nitrogen content.

I mowed my lawn this past Saturday with unknowingly a dull blade which resulted in badly frayed blades of grass. I had the blade sharpened today. The grass hasn’t grown that much. Should I lower the height of my mower slightly and mow again or mow again with the height of the mower unchanged?

the good news is that bahia is indestructable when it comes to drought. As soon as we start getting regular rains (hopefully soon) that bahia will purk right back up. Once the rains are consistent, give it some nitrogen (if permitted) and it will thicken up nicely.

Been watching you for a while and picking up what you throw down. I just moved to Manatee county. Threw down milorganite this weekend. Just in time. Will be going back and forth between my two homes for now, one in the northeast. Quick question how often do you water your lawn? My sprinkler system was at 2 times a week while I was gone the past month. Got back to Florida and it was pretty dry. Increased it to once a day for now. Is this an okay schedule. I am guessing I will have to turn the rain sensor on for the summer storms.

I have St Augustine in central Texas. We have a perennial native ground cover here that grows like a terrible lawn weed (underground runners). What can I use to get rid of broad leafed weeds in St. Augustine? Hubs says no glyphosate. We have a dog and have wildlife that come into the yard.

I had asked last year but it wasn’t covered in a video. We are at the time of year where the St. Augustine here in Houston can grow 4-5 inches in a week when properly fertilized and it’s healthy. I’m interested in a growth regulator and how it works and will it stop the lawn from thickening up and roots going down? I can only have it mowed once a week and it’s cutting 50% or more of the blades off, it also looks quite overgrown a couple of days after a cut. Is a growth regulator a decent solution for this?

I'm not in FL, but I'm just curious. Do the fertilizer restrictions in your area in FL also apply to liquid fertilizer? If applied to the lawn in the morning and watered in prior to the afternoon rains, wouldn't that be absorbed and not run off into the storm sewer during the afternoon storms?

It does apply to liquid ferts as well. I agree with you, there would be much less if any runoff with a liquid app, but that's the law. I think most of these laws are just copied from county to county.

There is no law and it won't hurt anything. I'm just nit a fan of taking automotive fluids and applying them to the lawn. It's generally not a good idea to promote that either way. I'm not mad at thise who do it, heck, I use dish soap in my mixes and could be open for critique there. So I guess my answer is mostly a non answer 🙃 😅

There’s a restriction of fertilizer from June to Sept, so what kind of fertilizer does fertilizer company put on the grass? I used to hire a company to do my lawn fertilizer and they come every month. I didn’t pay attention that there’s a restriction. They put fertilizer and I pay 😅. How much do you spend annually on lawn applications? Super curious. I know you probably spend more than most but what do you think the average person should budget? (& yes i know it depepends on how big the lawn is, grass type, ect.) so lets just go with the US average of around 10K sqft. Thanks!

Excellent question: we were actually doing some quick math last week at one of our company meetings. The TruGreen plan for a 3,500 sq ft lawn in Lehi, UT was just over $1,000 for the season for fert, weed control and grub control. If you use my fert and bio-stim program (which includes pre-emergent) and then use store bought weed control and Scotts GrubEx for that same size lawn is was around $600 for the year. That's back of the napkin math - we are going to dial it in and release a chart here sometime this summer with verified details and comparisons. As far as what I spend, it's nothing because I use broken bags from the warehouse. I'm lucky that way. 😀

Consider this. The air is 70% nitrogen. When it rains the water falls through the air and entraps the air it falls through into the water. That means that the rain drops will carry the air into the soil which also means it is carrying the nitrogen into the soil as well. While that may not get the amount of nitrogen you want into the ground as you want, it is still the best nitrogen you can get for your lawn. And it cost you nothing to apply.
