Sort of it's actually the smell of the vet. Like how the dentist smells NaStY Millie probably smells weird. It happens to my cats lol

I learned this a hard way with my two cats. My older boy cat had a small accident in his cage & the younger girl hate cat HATED HIS GUTS. I didn't know wth was wrong cuz they fought violently for awhile until he dried off & she realized it was a lil pee...🤦🏾‍♀️

Yes. Cats aren't visual based, but scent based. Chase has literally not one clue who that cat is right now.

Yep. I have 2 boy cats and 1 of them went outside for the first time then came back. My other cat smelled him and hissed bc of how he smelled. Both of them are very nice and gentle cats so it was a surprise to me. Cats will smell and judge you lol

Incase anyone is wondering, chase was hissing at Millie because after being at the groomers she would smell different. And seeing that cats have terrible vision up close to anything, scent is the biggest attribute to recognising anything. It’s highly likely that after a couple hours to a day they’ll be snuggling together per usual :)

Exactly. I went away for awhile (few months... NBD...) and when I came home, my little girl Patches didn't recognize me at first. Then as soon as she caught my scent, she literally ran to me and jumped on me like "MOM! YOU'RE HOME!!" Never cried so hard in my life....

@@taylorbug9 I saw this video for the first time today and I feel the exact same way. Unless the cat had to have a surgery, or had an illness, infection or disease it doesn't make any sense to put a cat through this. It can really upset and confuse the feline, and the fellow household cats.

Mine don't hiss at each other when they have been to the vet together. Maybe it is because part of the time they go together. No one is saying anything about how different they look. I think he is saying, "What happened to your HAIR! NEVER go back to that hair salon again. Military haircuts do not flatter you at all."

@@Imveryshocked8Wrong. He was acting like any cat that doesn't go out much would. He was trying to understand where he was, not looking for anyone. Remember that indoor cats don't like to go out like dogs do. So, they get really nervous, hence the low pitched meow.

It’s actually kind of normal that he hissed at them, more than likely it’s only because they smell so different from being somewhere else, handled by different people (their scents on the girls) and also from being groomed. His senses were probably a bit overloaded at first and it may have confused him a bit that they smelled so different.

Quite possible. Cats strongly associate each other with a scent so any change is likely to confuse them.

Chase didn’t like her scent change and that’s what prompted the hissing. Being in a different environment and scent change reduces likelihood that he even recognized her as actually being who she was. Meanwhile she’s like “what did I do?”

Recently I had taken my cat to the vet it was her first time and she was making those similar noises as that of chase which she had never made before. I was heartbroken to see her like that. Next day I had some 50 scratches on my arm😑

Cats often hiss at their fellow kitties after being at the vet! Our mommacat took well over a week to stop hissing at her own son, and they’ve been together for over 12 years. They hate the smell, the vets leave on them and it was sad to watch.. just a heads up for anybody who wanders why do cats do this when they come home from the vet?.

Chase smelled other cats on her. I've once went to a vet to buy cat food and my vet had just "put to sleep" a very ill cat. When I got home my cat feared me for a couple of hours as if he could smell death or fear ☹

I learned this long ago with my cats: you take them all to the vet, groomer, or whatever together so you don’t have the hiss fits later. My poor old tomcat always mopped when he got back and the other cat would keep spitting at him for the day.
