I hiked with a MOUNTAIN GOAT on the Pacific Crest Trail (Episode 4)

Episode 4 of my SOBO thru hike of the Pacific Crest Trail takes me through 72 miles of Washington wilderness! We will hike together from Stevens Pass to Snoqualmie Pass, mostly in the alpine. After a section hiking with new friends in the last episode, I find myself hiking alone again on this section.
What I've learned is that even when I'm hiking alone, I'm never truly alone out here. I meet so many interesting people along the trail AND so many beautiful wild animals.
My biggest dream for my PCT hike was to see a mountain goat. They are my favourite animals. When I rounded a curve in the trail and saw one RIGHT in front of me, my heart exploded with pure joy! I got to witness this mountain goat negotiating its habitat for about 15 minutes while we hiked along the PCT together. After this moment I deeply felt like I was on the right path.
My knee pain continues to be at the forefront of my mind and I share with you how it's feeling and my though processes behind continuing to hike. It feels like a big focus, and that's because it is. At this moment in my hike, my left knee was the biggest reason I might have to stop hiking.
I really hope you enjoy this section of my hike and the footage I was able to capture of the mountain goat!

As someone who lives and hikes in WA - those goats are such jerks 😂 they’ll kick rocks at you from above and get aggressive when you have something they want. It’s all of their exposure to people! I’m so glad you had a docile one and a lovely experience

I’ve watched all of your PCT shorts but I have to say the long form videos are definitely my favorite! I’m currently pregnant so thru-hiking is off the table for me until my daughter is old enough to join or be okay without me, but I can’t wait to do the PCT one day!

That is an incredible wildlife moment! Love those mountain goats. That's why I got a tattoo of one! BTW, a really good on the biology, behavior, ecology, and life of mountain goats is A Beast the Color of Winter, by Douglas Chadwick. I recognized Kendall Katwalk (that really narrow cliff trail section) in this episode. Looking forward to your next one!

Ya we were kind of hiking together but not really! Haha I see now how that’s a bit confusing. It’s pretty common for thru hikers to just hike their own pace and not stop and wait for each other if the other one stops for a water break or a pee or something. But then we usually cluster up at water sources or around lunch break time. I was expecting to see her again after she stopped for a short break but I didn’t see her again that day or at camp, so I realized we were now on different schedules!

You mention your discomfort to film in camp with others around; consider… that is a degree of courtesy to these otherwise strangers. If you can isolate your experience, great. But boldly filming others for your own content is highly questionable.
