Pongal is a four-day-long harvest festival celebrated in Tamil Nadu, which falls in the month of “Thai” when crops like rice, sugarcane, turmeric etc. are harvested. This festival is celebrated as a way of showing gratitude and appreciativeness to God for the harvest of the year. The festival is celebrated as Bhogi, Thai Pongal, Mattu Pongal and Kaanum Pongal in four consecutive days
The term 'Pongal' in Tamil means "to boil", and this festival is celebrated as a thanksgiving commemoration for the year's harvest. Oratorio - all the voices start to chant ‘Pongal-o-Pongal’ that breach the air in many homes as the milk is boiled, symbolizing the spouting of prosperity in adoration and gratitude to thank the Sun God and Lord Indra for helping farmers in getting better-yielding crops. Then boys and girls enjoy dancing and singing a harvest song. During the festival people repudiate & relinquish old belongings and commence & embrace new appurtenance.

Pushpavanam Kuppusamy, a recipient of Kalaimamani award from the Government of Tamil Nadu is a playback singer, Tamil folk singer, lyricist, writer and music composer and is credited for resuscitating the Naatupura Paatu, a Tamil folk art.
