I was a motor cop for 15 years in the US. When I was a lieutenant, I had a line of police bikes from all over the world in my office. One day a man and his so walked by and the man was pointing to them, so I wasn't out to greet them. He had been a motor officer in Kennemerland in the Netherlands so I gave him one of our Traffic Division polo shirts. A few weeks later the son arrived and dropped off a collection of Dutch Police items including a baseball cap, tie, and tie bar. It was great to see you getting to experience some of their training. The instructors were great representatives of the Dutch Police. I'm glad I discovered your channel with this video! Best wishes from Delaware, USA! 🇺🇸🏍

First day out with my license I went too hot into the turn and braked and stood the bike up and went into oncoming traffic but got lucky. Ever since then I’ve always put a high value on advanced rider training, defensive riding techniques (which doesn’t mean slow, quite the opposite in fact), and regularly practiced braking at various speeds, lean angles, and different bends (parabolic increasing curves are my favourite), emergency braking, and trail braking. I still watch and analyze crashes to see how I could have prevented them, try to learn new techniques, and try and hone low speed maneuvers. Never stop learning. It always pays off. My advanced training and constant focus on learning has saved my life 3 times that I know of.

Hi Frederik, just curious, do you happen to know why the police bmw r1250rt has the (wunderlich?) throttle lock? I mean do the police RTs do not have the factory cruise control? Or is it to keep the revs up when the bike is stationary? Again just, I am just curious and perhaps you know this.
@frederikadam6183
@frederikadam6183 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Noud, for the exact reason why you would have to ask the person driving it. But I do have an idea. Every city orders it's own specifications on the bikes. It does happen a lot that the cruise control is not ordered because there are too many other buttons to be installed (and for the price as well). Also the bikes being offered to the police zones are pretty much standard. Like I said, the police force orders the specifications needed themselves. That wunderlich throttle lock can be convenient to practise figure-8 moves, very slow speed maneuvers ,... to keep the revs up. I saw as well that the bike had a non standard throttle lock ;) :p

@@fprintf I pull wheelies on my R1250GSA to help get over obstacles. In certain situations you just need to get the front wheel in the air to keep the skid plate from hanging up. Not something that you should ever need on the street, most of the dirt riding skill set is like that, though. There isn't a lot of cross over skills from dirt to street, but learning how to keep a bike up when it's sliding around can be very helpful.

Most have ridden Harley Davidson until the last 10 years or so they have ridden Honda Gold Wings. Here in the Houston area, they seem to ride a lot of escort duty. I seldom see a motor officer doing traffic enforcement. The Dutch BMW bike is impressive!

We have Bike Safe here in the UK where the police run training sessions with an observed ride assessment on the public roads. You only get to ride your own bike though, no chance to ride the proper police machines. You are very lucky and privileged. Well done stepping up to a much bigger machine with a lot more power than Ronin.

BRILLIANT!!!! VERY different from my three wekk traing at Staffordfshire Police Training School, England in 1964. The instructor just pulled us to the entrance of the school and said, "If you ignore everyhting *I am going to teach you, remember this, all those bastards out there are trying to kill you.

Oh my days! I have never worried for you until this video... I felt all the pressure just watching you....all those flipping buttons and the size of the bike! You did brilliantly, well done! I am so impressed with the police training set up...I can’t think we have anything so good for our motorbike cops here in the UK! Jackie x

UK motorcycle officers are very highly trained. In fact, the must serve time in a traffic/response car before they’re allowed to move up to the bikes. UK police also do riding days with the general public motorcyclists that would like to improve their skills.

@@motosnape Hi Neil, I wasn’t criticising our UK police motorcyclists, they are superb riders and I have plans to do a review and training session myself with our local road safety officer who is an ex motorcycle cop. I was more commenting on the facilities that the Dutch training school have available to them which look amazing!

@@mjp_adventures7582. That’s the joy of online comments, never precisely sure of what’s implied😉 I did my compulsory basic training, then my direct access test with an instructor who is an ex-police motorcycle officer. The level of training was superb and I went out on test day with a greater level of knowledge and skill than I needed to pass that day. He was excellent and it’s part of the reason that I have the utmost respect for their skills. You’re probably right that the Dutch have better facilities than the UK.

Wahoo! This series may be about the Dutch moto scene, but it's also a fascinating, in depth look at the Dutch. I love this. The skills you learn from the police training are excellent. Many of us, especially seasoned riders, should be so lucky as to ride in their program. Cheers, cheers Noraly. Oh, and BTW, the Christmas special (lost voice and all) was a really great.
