The reason for the cut out is that Japanese rear plates must be bolted to a non removable part of the car, then have a seal placed on one of the bolts. That applies to all white number plate passenger cars……reason seem to be so that people can’t swap or steal plates, road tolls and taxes here are horrendous.

The remote control was the thing back in the 90s. I had one for my Alpine/JP stereo system. Instead of leaning forward to hit the button, you had a remote typically left in the cup holder that can do everything the buttons did on the unit. Kinda of a safety feature when you didn't want to take your eyes off the road. The remote I had consisted of six buttons. Disc change, skip forward and reverse, volume, and a power off.

@dduffy8245 my comment was specifically about JDM Supra's for which you clearly no little about. 99% of JDM Supra's got cloth front seats with leather only being available on the GZ. They started in 1993. 1993.5 isn't a year. Technically you could argue that they are 1992 given there are genuine pre-production models that did find their way out of Japan but 1993 is generally accepted. Sorry if you think I know nothing about these cars. I've only owned them for 20 years.

Mileage is one thing in Japan, but a significant concern is engine run time. Because there is a lot of traffic and you can spend hours just slowly moving through traffic. So some cars that don't seem to have that many miles on them, have double the engine run time the mileage would suggest.

FYI the "easy pass" machine located on the side is a highway toll payment system (called an ETC). In Japan highways aren't free, so you insert your highway card into the slot and it automatically pays without you having to stop to pay manually. The Japanese lady's voice when you turned on the car is telling you the card isn't inserted.

Radio remotes were a great tool for audio competitors in the 90s still are today but alot of folks now just extend their radios on long pigtails to outside the car cuz the levels of vibrations today's comp systems put off can mess with radios. Prs80s by pioneer are notorious for not liking bass levels in the 155dbs or highers at about 30 to 32hz or lower unless on an "enteral headunit" set up.

My Japanese (RHD) Imported (to Australia) Black 1993 (Series 1) MKIV Supra had an insert in the rear bumper covering some of that hole (not all of it though). The horizontal fins in the insert sat either side of the license plate when fitted. I would think that your 94 would also be series 1 as well. Mine was also 5 speed manual (SZ not the Twin Turbo RZ) with the cloth front seats, leather rear seats, no airbags (Tri spoke steering wheel and double glovebox) and a factory LSD (Rare I was told). It also had orange side indicators that I changed to clear (like yours). I removed the ashtray in the centre console and used that hole as my cup holder (Yes they're essential). I had it for 6 or 7 years before I was T-Boned in it. Unfortunately it never drove the same after the repairs so I sold it. I'd love another one but they're way too expensive now. passenger side air bags didn't become required till 98. As for the remote for the radio. its was common on flip out radios of the day. They didn't have steering wheel controls, or touch screens yet. at its was the early 2000s.

This car needs a complete rebuild, but if the bones are good it's worth it, I think you should make it a channel project car and convert it to a left hand steering car. It's doesn't need to have a bunch of horse power in the end, but it would be really interesting to see a left hand drive conversion.

It *is* just another Supra, only with the steering on the worst side for LHD/RHT roads. A conversion would be a huge improvement.

@@dclarke8872 Converting it would double the car's base value and I'm sure there are a lot of people thinking about buying cars from Japan or England, but not wanting to have the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car and are thinking about what it would take to put it on the correct side.
@yuris6125

@@StorKejsaren on the opposite, it would drop its value and probably be illegal. JDM cars don't have VIN numbers, what are you gonna do about it? I wouldn't want a butchered car with God knows how many corners cut during such conversion.
@StorKejsaren
@StorKejsaren Жыл бұрын
@@yuris6125 It's not illegal if it passes MOT, at least not in Europe, where LHD JDM cars always fetch at least twice the price of a RHD. In some countries you're not even allowed to drive RHD cars in traffic so not converting it would be illegal 😅

The remote for the stereo is for when you install the real speakers and it is almost painful to be in the car when the volume is up. For competition you can stand outside of your car and still control the stereo. I installed a system into a hatchback Civic and when you turned up the stereo it became hard to breath in the car! And the damage to my ears was probably also not good, so with the remote we could control it outside the car

I worked for a Japanese company and I was always told that the Japanese companies were all cutting edge technology. The company I worked for didn't even allow computers onsite until like 2000. I had to do a lot of Health and Safety reports to OSHA and the last reports were typed on an IBM Selectric. (That is a typewriter)! They were not high tech at all.

the gps screen isn't that someone damaged it or keyed it, its a common failure with LCDs where the polarization filter starts to break down. if you touch it, might be sticky even. That unit likely is really old and been sitting in some heat for a long time.

I think the remote isn't necessarily for cars. There's lots of other places that will use a car head unit. For example boats while yes there's marine head units but they're kinda garbage 90% of the time and depending on the type of boat you can use a nice car head unit. I've also seen people use them in their garage for music or even the interior of their house. And obviously there's RVs where you really wouldn't have a dedicated stereo receiver for music you'd just use the head unit in the dash.
