The Spj fm/43-44 is a great War Thunder Meme. In this video I decided to take it out to go hunt down the most difficult of foes... the King Tiger!
The Spj fm/43-44 is a Low Tier Swedish SPG that has a 150mm cannon that can only fire HE shells. The HE has 48mm of penetration which is absolutely devastating with the right shot placement.
The reason I chose the King Tiger is that it has 40mm of top hull armour so with just 8mm left to go... it's a tough nut to crack! At 5 BR's higher, you'd think it would be difficult right? Well... you'd be wrong! :)

@@PhilipCJames The funny thing is, because you can select the mg to fire, in the gunners sight you have lead marks. You can find distance out to 1200 yards this way, switch back to the meatball dispenser, and set your range fairly accurately.

idk, overpressure is a lot deadlier than people realize. The IS-2 carried a majority HE shells because it had enough explosive mass to kill tank crews/ render the tank destroyed. Obviously, war thunder hasn't modeled it perfectly but its definitely not some bs gimmick they added to magically make HE useful in a tank v tank game

when I talked about the IS-2 at the tank museum I worked at I would use the term "turn the enemy crew into soup" which really drove the point home about the effectiveness of the HE shells

I think the average War Thunder player sees millimeters of pen on HE and doesn't understand the amount of power several kilograms of TNT has.

The IS2 carried more HE shells cause the 122mm was more a bunker buster than a tank killer , not cause you can kill everything with a HE shell like in a video game kids . This shell has 3.5kg of TNT that's nothing to kill heavy tanks or the crew . If it does'nt get into the tank , there will be no one dead inside . Always this stupid myth or story of a 122mm HE monster , it shoots not a 50kg bomb . 😅

Theres actually some good simulations on YT than you can look at the effects of overpressure from various rounds. (not for war thunder but IRL) Most of the time, the shockwave is lethal to the driver and assistant driver/bow gunner, but not turret crew

Man, watching you and Phly play this game is befuddling, to say the least. I recently started playing WT after many years playing World of Tanks, and realistic mode, heck, even arcade mode blow my mind. Why? Nothing is visible until it's visible. Over in WoT, everything is pretty much lit up with a red line around it, kind of like WT arcade mode, but it's lit up all the time. In Realistic Battles, the other guy can be right in front of me and I don't see him. I've gotten so used to looking for the red border or blip on the map that I can't see things like you guys do. I am in awe watching you spot something that I couldn't even perceive was there. I'm like "How the F did he see that?!"

most of it is just a trained eye, he knows what he is looking for, the rest of it is yt compression, sometimes they are literally invisible in the video, especially planes

I learned when I was young to work on "hunter's focus" Where instead of looking at a specific spot, you just pull your focus out until you're blankly looking over your whole FOV, and you just wait for pixels to move, when it comes to WT. Then it comes down to map knowledge and knowing where the pushers go, the flankers go, and everyone else, who generally try to play to their strengths, and that helps you perceive where the reds will be

Arcade mode trains your brain wrong, you have to play a lot of realistic to undo it. Another large thing is sounds. You can track someone from 100m away via their engine noise through buildings and if you're in a quiet spot, no one can sneak up on you if your ears are open and you're paying attention. World of Tanks and WT arcade mode are like Overwatch while realistic is Tarkov. It's all about map knowledge, keeping your attention on the sounds around you, and knowing where people can approach from.

Overpressure gets a major boost when it kills an internal component, the game basically considers that the explosion happens inside the crew compartment leading to the tank dying completely. The best place to shoot tanks with HE is the gun mantle because the breech counts as an internal component. That's why odd managed to kill those tigers with breech shots. protip: Most tanks don't have enough armour underneath. So if you shoot the ground under them, they explode. You should try to kill 11.0 BR tanks with it.
