MrDirectorAgent yeah it’s called the Sarah Jane Adventures and was a spin off to Doctor Who which ran from 2008 to 2011 due to Elizabeth Sladen’s tragic passing of cancer the same year, while I prefer the parent show it’s actually a pretty good spinoff and a lot more accessible compared to the other two spinoffs which are Torchwood and Class

I think the idea was to have the screen on the one console panel serve as the monitor, but for some reason the production team never followed through with it.

@Everything Cool This console is the same as the first TARDIS and the monitor that's on it is actually along the side the controls. You would have to look downwards on it to see it. The other console the fourth doctor uses has a big monitor on the wall. goo.gl/images/utg69F

During Jon Pertwee's time on the show; the console was slowly remodeled from the one used during Hartnell and Troughton's time as The Doctor. I believe the last time the Original console was seen in story was in the episode Inferno. After that, The Doctor was constantly working on it and upgrading it in his attempts to cut his exile short and be free from being stuck in one specific time period. By the 10th Anniversary episode "The Three Doctors" he had a redesigned and upgraded console when The Timelords commuted his exile and unlocked the mental barrier they had placed in his mind that kept him from using the Dematerialization codes to take-off. Also, early in his first season, The Third Doctor builds a brand - new Demat Circuit but can't access the codes locked in his mind to use it. Finally, by the time Tom Baker joins the show; the BBC Props Dept has built a new console (the one pictured in the Dr. Who Technical Manual published in the mid 80's) . The Baker / Davison console would not be upgraded again until "The Five Doctors 20th Anniversary" episode in 1983.

I know right. Nowadays they just seem to charge out of the TARDIS without making any kind of checks. Considering how often the TARDIS misbehaves they should've at least ran out in the middle of some highly irradiated planet by now.

I agree. I think it helped that the threat was not known by the general population. It gave it an added layer of realism, of even though we know it didn’t really happen this theoretically could be a documentary, but it’s played as fiction because nobody would believe it. The quieter, slower, more strategic menace has always been more frightening than the loud, fast, bombastic menace. And while the first time you have a spaceship hit Big Ben it may have a certain visual appeal, eventually the number of newsworthy Doctor stories are not only reminders that the story for sure isn’t real, they also create at least a London that has to start treating all of these dangers as business as usual, so even in the fictional world they have lost their impact.

You do know this is the same hell this might even be the same season as the bubble wrap monster right judging by the Tardis and the presence of Sarah Jane Smith this is early fourth doctor so pretty close to the bubble wrap monster

elisabeth Haraldsson Rose is often referred to as the compassionate companion, however, whenever I think of compassion, I always think of Donna begging the Doctor to save someone on Pompei. Or that moment when she hears the song of the Oods and she starts crying, but she also notices that the Doctor doesn't have the ability to unhear that song. But, nothing like those moments come to mind when I think of Rose.

Flying Monkey Rose is my 4th favorite companion. (Donna, Clara, Martha and then Rose.) I don't hate her, but I don't find her compassionate. That's all I'm saying, Rose, however, at times does act immature. But as she's only 19, that's to be expected. But as I was asking, is she really the compassionate companion or is that title better suited for Donna?

Winston Smith Sarah Jane (particularly with the shorter hair in her first season) looks just like an ex of mine. My heart breaks a bit everytime she's on screen.

The "Cosmic Superhero" Doctor actually started with Four, believe it or not, specifically during the Graham Williams era. It's just not as noticeable because he became a much more vulnerable character when JNT took over, with his immediate successor being arguably the softest of the classic Doctors. I think the Cosmic Superhero archetype was carried over to the Revival Series because that's what Four was like for most of his run, and Four just happens to be the most popular and most iconic Doctor among fans.

The trends of the new series actually started near the end of the classic series's life. If you look at the Seventh Doctor's last two seasons, you'll notice storytelling & cinematographic styles that wouldn't be out of place in New Who, particularly with the Fenric arc that ends in the most New Who way possible *in 1989*.

Older Sarah Jane would've rocked it as well.

Hey cool! I watched his entire run in the late 80s! 1988-1990 to be precise. It was on weekdays on The Afternoon Show with James Valentine on ABC. Doctor Who was two months on, two months off, with 4th Doctor showings alternating with new broadcasts and cumulative repeats of the 7th Doctor. Life was good. Why did it have to change?

I happened to find Doctor Who on PBS in the States just as Mr. Baker was starting out in _Robot_ in early-1975. I watched that series and then something distracted me and I was pulled away from the show until late in 2021. I found it again on BritBox and was amazed to remember some particular scenes especially the parts of _Robot_ that were recorded outdoors. I'm still in awe of finding it again after more that 46 years. I still have the rest of Tom Baker's turn as Dr. Who and all Doctors on either side of him.

That's kinda the way DW was back in the day. I remember Sylvester McCoy walking away from an explosion, his back actually *on fire* because he was too close when it went off, and finishing the scene because he knew there couldn't be a second take on it. :)

If you remember Genesis of the Daleks when they were opening up that safe, something fell out that wasn’t supposed to and Tom quickly improvised and made like a “shush” motion and Elizabeth rolled with it. Those two made great improv duo.

Depending on what background info you read; a standard Timelord lifecycle of 12 Regenerations (lived out in one place and one specific time period) will last about 6,000 yrs. barring unforeseen circumstances or accidental Death and dismemberment. In the episode "The Brain of Morbius" it is implied that The Doctor has had several more lives than what has been seen or written about to that point. And the current multimedia adventures of The Doctor only chronicle The Doctors' (personal) timeline since leaving Gallifrey of a little over 2,000+yrs. (I'm deliberately leaving out the Peter Capaldi episode "Heaven Sent" where he spends several Billion years breaking out of his Confession Dial in a timeloop of Death and Resurrection, before finding and returning to Gallifrey which was hidden at the end of the Universe and the end of Time). When Timelords live like the Doctor does, the tendency is to Regenerate more often. The Master / Missy, used up every Regeneration cycle they were given. In the 7th Doctor episode:"Survival" The Master's stolen body (Tremas of The Traken Union; Nyssa's Father) is all used up. He appears one more time in the 1996 Doctor Who TV movie trying to steal the Doctors' remaining lives. In The Time War, he's given a whole new Regeneration cycle that he burns through before he becomes Missy who he mortally wounds in the episode:"The Doctor Falls" as she does the same to her previous self which is how she came to be. But it's ultimately their end as he will not allow his future self to be tainted and defiled by the Doctors' attempt to rehabilitate them.

@@sheridan5175 months later but yeah that one actually has a lot of decorations in it which is accurate my favorite cotorras are probably the 12th doctors the first doctors in the war doctors as they all have that spaceship bill but the 1st and 12th have aspects that make you feel lived-in while the War Doctor has that organic and cobbled-together add-ons if I could have random decorations and coral and random controls attached to a more spaceship-like artist it would be perfect

All three were at the peak of the show's writing. The Deadly Assassin (?) was also very good.

Darn, didn't even realize she had passed away. Seems like an unusually large number of female leads from the original series have died of cancer, and somewhat young. Perhaps they all had a smoking habit. They were all smokin', of course, but it's either tobacco or the UK's health system isn't as great as so many claim it is.

Imagine how much worse things would be if parents acted like their babies, or schools restricted the curricula to what students already knew. The best media tries to bring the audience up to its level.

Probably because in the 70s the Classic Series had the benefit of Serialized Story telling in that you could have a four to six part story where you can take the time to flesh out the world setting, the threat, how you're going to resolve the problem and then the last part deals with the climax. Modern Day Television's gotta do it in one episode. Pacing's gotta be faster and the story needs to be condensed out of fear that multipart stories won't draw in high viewing figures over the number of parts there are. That being said there is something endearing about the whole idea of watching a Classic Doctor Who episode where you see a cliffhanger thinking "Oh man, I can't wait to see what happens next week in Part 2"

Oh mate, I couldn't agree more. The plots of the current episodes are rarely about 'something nasty in the woodshed that needs to be destroyed'....which is what made the series so addicitive when we were kids....now there are plots within plots which just pisses viewers off if they have just 'dipped in' to the programme one Saturday night.

Contemporary successes like Blink ( the first Weeping Angel story) are slow paced and well written inho. In the classic era, many stories were poor but were mostly coherent. Not so now. The show has gone so far down the pan.
