I actually held the switch record for a few months using no chest boosts. I'd suggest if you ever try it again you watch the tutorial on no chest boosts, it's pretty easy.

Is box jump like actually difficult or is it random or annoying?

I don't understand it well enough to really explain it, but it seems a little precise is all. I'm sure with enough practice it's not all too difficult!
