This is a good show, thank you. But each person sees the sun from where they are. I lived in Uganda for over 30 years, but stress almost killed me even after obtaining a Masters degree, but now in UK. For the time I have lived in UK, I do not regret leaving Uganda at all. Life is what everyone makes it. It sounds like Counsel Mubiru wants a sandwiched and balanced life, where he still benefits from the advantages of being a British National as well as tap from the benefits of working in Uganda...otherwise if UK was terrible, he might as well opt to be fully engaged back in Uganda without strings attached in UK. My take is, let everyone try out where they feel will work for them and have their own story to tell later.

True but u have just arrived therefore u don't have authority to speak now. We wish you the best

True, but not only me whose been here a few years, other relatives and friends over 30 years in UK, but some have similar stories to Counsel, yet the majority encourage to move to UK, they have tasted both Uganda and UK as well. I still say, this is a case by case living for each person. Even in Uganda, there are many stress issues. With real life experiences of friends and family that have been hit by stroke in Uganda, stress is real any where depending on how you handle life.
@springvic50344 ай бұрын
Stress is everywhere. As human beings we just need to learn to cope with life anywhere and if we have means to try other options. Some will opt to go back home. I know older people in diaspora who have tried to come back to Uganda, lived there 6 months but their health started deteriorating and with Uganda health care and emergency care they came back to uk as here they can be looked after better. So it depends. You can have lots of money in Uganda but if you’re say to be involved in an accident or had a medical emergency the care won’t be the same as in uk and that’s why those govt officials die in foreign hospitals. Anyway the balance in life is hard but once you find it, appreciate what you have, learn to cope, the rest as they say, life is what you make it.

True. Not everyone in uk is stressed. Most who are, have the stress caused by people back home so moving back is not a solution for those as when they come even for a simple visit every one is lining up for money so coming back for good means coming back to look after the same people including their ailing parents and their own aging self.

I hear mental health is on the rise in Uganda. I think sometimes kids behave according to how you treat and relate to them. I have an 18 year old boy and 11 year old girl but we have a very strong bond. But everyone who meets them complements the way they behave. I know there's a lot of pressure in the UK, this is a firt world which Africans are not designed to adjust to as we're naturally very slow people and dependent on others. We don't promote independence. I have lived in the UK for 20 years now but i can't complain kubanga ebizibu ebiri e UK biri munsi yonna. What matters is how you cope. Some people are naturally weak while others are strong enough to withstand strong winds. I understand UK is not for everyone same as Uganda.

You’ve summarised it so well. It’s the inability to adjust, struggling to cope and to accept our situations. Most are target working to please people in Uganda so when they can’t do so, the stress sets in and because you then have to keep working, means no self care, no rest, no social life, no break, then stress.

Education in the UK is free up to A level but beyond that one has to apply for a student loan which you pay back when you start working. it's at a low interest rate but still a significant potion of one's income if you factor in the fact that after graduation then other costs of normal life come into play. Medical facilities are better than in Uganda but not free as such because when you start working money is deducted at source every month towards the national insurance scheme and it's this that caters for your treatment. On the whole it does a fantastic job.
@springvic50344 ай бұрын
Very well put. They even added an extra deduction on wages for NHS specifically after Covid. I think he generalised it too much without getting into details. I was wondering how his degree was free and who gets paid for going to university. It’s a loan, that has to be paid back and those who didn’t take the loan paid for themselves or their parents paid for them. I hope he finished paying his student loan off before relocating…😂😄

I told people that NHS is very fundanental to the health of people. I know many elderly people with hip replacement, heart surgery, pavemakers and other complex surgeries. When i relate it with Uganda and other countries I can imagine these people would be dead by now.
@esthersbucketlist3 ай бұрын
NHS is a sinking ship, UK is overrated, there’s nothing here I understand it used to be great those days but today uk is bleeding, it’s difficult to see dr or even to make a gp appointment and when you go to a&e youll stay so long before you are seen by dr, you’re likely to work extra hours outside your contracted hours in order to be able to pay your bills, save money and support your family back home, you don’t have time for yourself. Work is all you think about. The living spaces are so small bedrooms are so tiny , it’s always wet,cloudy and rainy especially in the winter it’s so dark. The racial discrimination at work is one thing and your kids being bullied in school because they’re black is another. Now the thing is, you’ll never believe it when anyone tells you about the struggles. Those that says they’re doing well here is because they grew a thick skin, they settled with being tolerated and not accepted, simply they are pretending to be ok while deep down they know they are lacking a sense of belonging. I always say if you’re doing well at home, stay where you’re. If you come here just know that you’ll fall into the trap and you’ll spend all those years fighting to come out year in year out before you know it you have lived for 30 years of high stress and pain.

This does don't represent all Ugandans. Yes, a large number of Africans in UK live a stressful life and this is because of the way they look at the systems. Some people live in the UK but behave as if they live in Uganda or live in two countries at the same time. Nevertheless, UK is one of the best countries in the world, that's if you adopt to the system properly...
