I liked the razor so much I bought the company. Date: 1979. Advertiser: Remington. Presenter: Victor Kiam
The president of Remington shavers in 1978: "When my wife bought me a Remington shaver, I was so impressed I bought the company". Victor Kiam would often appear in television advertisements for Remington shavers and say: "Shaves as close as a blade, or your money back!"

Remember seeing the ad in 1979. Was well impressed. I thought to myself " Money back? You can't say fairer than that". British companies just didnt make those kinds of promises. Their attitude was " Doesn't work? Tough luck mate ". Bought a Remington + have been buying them ever since. Possibly my fave ad of all time !

Not got a shaver. I bought some hair clippers with different depths. 15mm depth just right for me. Much easier than the hassle of going into town to visit the barbers.

How many people actually claimed their money back? Having bought electric shavers, quite recently, there is no way they shave anything like "As Close as a Blade" Back in the Seventies, I'd imagine they'd shave as close as a potato.

And they were true to their word too. My Dad bought one, it didn't give him as good a shave as his razor, and he got his £20 back.
@DellaStreet123
@DellaStreet123 3 жыл бұрын
@@thefurrybastard1964 I've heard that from others, too. They really refunded money. I'm not sure if it's really possible to shave as close with an electric as with a safety razor like the one shown in the ad, but I guess many men thought that the result was a close call. Wet shaving is also a lot about technique. My grandfather always claimed that he could shave just as fast with a safety razor as with an electric and still got a closer shave that made him feel "clean".

@DellaStreet123
@DellaStreet123 3 жыл бұрын
@@thefurrybastard1964 I loved those stories my grandmother told me about *her* grandfather shaving in the backyard. He was the only man in the house, WWII, was going on. She liked to watch her grandfather shaving. How he whisked up the lather, how he stropped the razor and, eventually, the faces he pulled during the shave itself. He blew up his cheeks, he tilted his head back and pulled a grinning face before going over his throat -- he even blew up the part over the lip. Self-shaving with a straight razor was still common throughout the first half of the 20th century in Germany. My great-aunt learned how to shave others with a straight during her training as a barber/ladies' hairdresser (she did both) and when she died, this inspired me to learn how to do it, too. I did my first practice on my legs. They are within convenient reach and the skin is relatively though, tougher than the skin on the average man's face. The design of the straight is excellent. It doesn't matter that it cannot get as sharp as a modern razor blade. It's all about the weight, the bevel (stropping is really essential) and technique. It is also great that you can control how close you want to shave your "victim". In the past, barbers sometimes asked their clients how close they wanted their shave. Not everybody wanted it BBS ("baby bum smooth2) as some shaving nerds call it today. A man is a man, not a baby's bum, for critter's sake.

Kiam bought the Patriots solely for the prestige of owning an NFL franchise. Unlike Remington Razors, Kiam had no idea what he was doing when it came to owning the New England Patriots. He sold the team to St. Louis businessman James Orthwein in 1992, who bought the team solely to move it to St. Louis (they would've been renamed the St. Louis Stallions). Robert Kraft wouldn't let Orthwein out of the team's lease with Foxboro Stadium, so Kraft bought the team in 1994

Not really. Middle-aged people dress differently, they groom themselves differently, and dying one's hair also makes a difference. Only at first glance, though. I don't see any problem with being young at heart, dressing casually, etc. -- But what scares me is that our culture seems to be addicted to anti-aging. Which isn't even a thing. Once you're born, you're aging. In a way, your dying process has already begun. Healthy habits help with aging gracefully, but you have to accept the reality of death. It's never been optional, nobody has ever been forgotten yet, not even Jeanne Calment, the oldest person whose age could be verified.

I had a PG 6020, made in chynaaaa and they are fucking rubbish. Remington in Oz replaced it because the battery lasted about 30 seconds, the replacement was no better. I replaced the battery following many youtube videos, but now the 240v charger HK28A-3.6 -100 has come apart while I was removing it from the powerpoint exposing the internal electrical components luckily it was switched off at the plug. clearly this mob has gone downhill since Victor Kiam was running the show. It is now a part of an international conglomerate who no longer give a toss about their customers.
