I emphasise with you. I’m 66 and an ex rugby prop and we are supposed to be tough, but seeing you crying reminded me of losing my father. I was 32 and my first daughter was born 9 days before he died. Still, 34 years later, I still cry and grieve for my father, the big strong special service soldier. It never gets easier. Fab videos.

My Dad was serving in the Falklands war when I was born. Brothers In Arms reminds him about his mates that he lost and when he hears it he always looks up to the sky and says this is for you mate. For me, it's a reminder that I could never even known my Dad. My godfather is one of those that never came back.

Losing a parent never really heals, it just becomes part of who you are. I mark my parents birthdays, each year, by either listening to some of their favourite music or watching one of their favourite movies.

Have you watched "Queen at live aid" it's rated as the greatest live performance ever, Freddie Mercury once AGAIN had the crowd in the palm of his hand.

Thank you for being so open about your loss. I lost my father last year and it's difficult to deal with such a loss. Music, although it can be confrontational, does help. He loved music, all sorts and he passed that love on to me. We both, actually the whole family saw Pink Floyd on their last tour where they played the Dark Side album in its entirety. Great memories. The Dark Side of the Moon is certainly one of my absolute favourites. Feel free to make a whole seperate video about it. 😁

I wasn't expecting to cry with you today (but it was extremely therapeutic, I've had a head full of stress all day). I guess when you're nine albums in, it would have been impossible to fully edit that out, but I'm glad you didn't try. And I'm sorry for your loss, it's been a rough few years (7 years really) here for my family so I can sympathise, although I can't imagine doing it so far from 'home'. I'm really proud that you chose the UK and although it maybe hasn't always been perfect, I hope we've shown you kindness when you needed it most. We're lucky to have you here.

I think you cried because even though he is gone... he was with you again in the moment. This is what makes music so powerful. It says the things we don't know how to say. It brings us back to a person or a moment no matter how far away it may seem in time or space. What else has that kind of power.

I don’t often comment on videos but this was your best one imo. Your dad had great taste in music. I bought Queens Greatest Hits for my own daughter on vinyl 2 Christmas’s ago when she was 14. She loves Queen. Their music is timeless and as you say crosses generations. Brilliant video.

Time is, in my opinion, the greatest lyrics in history. Means so much to me and is probably the only song I can truly say impacted my life. Wonderful video Alanna. This just shows the incredible power that music has in being able to reach us on such a deep and emotional level. I must warn you! - the older you get, the more music hits you in the feels. I’m a 61 year old 🇨🇦 and am not ashamed to say that I can no longer listen to songs like Vincent (Don McLean) or Fire and Rain (James Taylor) + many others without the tears coming. I don’t consider this a bad thing at all. Just music as an art form doing what art does best - reaching the soul. Love your channel. Bless.

This is my first video of yours I’ve seen and what a lovely story about queen and your dad. Music can do that to you like nothing else can in terms of striking a memory and immediately you flood back to a period of your life and the emotion just hits you. Something came up on Spotify that I had heard a million times as a kid when my parents were together, but I hadn’t heard for 20 years, and I wouldn’t have ever thought to search for it, and it’s not my usual bag, but it was the Carpenters, Yesterday Once More. And I immediately just bawled my little eyes out remembering as a 28 year old what it had been like being 7 years old and not having a care in the world 😭plus the song subject itself seems to be pretty much that exact same thing, and man everything just aligned

Crying with you! The effect that music has on us is so visceral, and when music connects us to others, especially those who are no longer with us, it can become sweetly poignant. Your response to Queen reminds me of a recent incident at physical therapy when John Denver's "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" came over the speakers. My dad died just over a year ago, and he loved that song and used to clap along with it while stomping one foot. As I heard the opening bars, the tears began to flow. We had set his montage to a different country song from the '70s, Glen Campbell's "Rhinestone Cowboy," as that song and "Country Boy" were playing constantly on different radio stations (this was 1975) as we tent-camped our way from San Diego to Yellowstone and back. Every time each song came on the radio (usually several times a day), all five of us sang at the tops of our lungs ... and we are NOT good singers, LOL! I'm generally not a fan of country music; in fact, I despise it ... with the exception of John Denver (who was more folk than outright country) and Eddie Rabbitt (from the '80s) as my parents loved to line-dance in the living room to "I Love a Rainy Night" and "Drivin' My Life Away." My parents had an extraordinary 57-year marriage and were still in love with each other when my dad died. The power of music to transport us to the past is extraordinary. Music is so powerful and really touches us at a deep level. I lost my brother a few years ago and have only just begun to be able to listen to Led Zeppelin without sobbing. My father used to sing and we often sang together - some pieces I'll never manage again. Remember the joy.

That's one of the Pink Floyd lyrics that stands out most for me. Amazing how music can transport you to another time and connect you to people on a very emotional level.

Music has a way of taking us back and reminding us of people and times gone by and emotions we felt. For me it's Setting Sons by the Jam. it always brings back to me the feelings from those happy days at school in the late 70's and the fun we had back then. I hope you have added Queen back into your favourite playlist now and listen to it more often and with a smile next time instead of just tears while remembering your dad. 🙂

Bless your heart, I know exactly how you feel about listening to your dad's music. I lost my mum almost exactly a year ago, and I can't listen to her music yet. She absolutely loved the Carpenters, and if any of their songs happen to come on the radio, I have to turn it off. Maybe one day I'll be able to listen to those songs she loved so much, but not yet. Completely with you on the crying part. Lost my dad back in June and in the months since, I've lost count of how many times something that reminded me of him has brought me to tears. Especially music, I've made myself fight back the tears on a few occasions walking home from work when I've had my music on. Music is so powerful isn't it, the way it can manifest emotions in you that you sometimes didn't even know that were there.

I’ve been in radio broadcasting in Australia for over 20 years. I’ve got 78,000 songs in my personal library and access the station’s library as well. Of all those albums, The Beatles definitely sits at number 1 spot for me. Of the Beatles catalogue Abbey Road is my favourite and number two is Sgt Pepppers. So I’m older than your Dad was, but I guess my sons have grown up listening to music much the same as you did. Both of them are big Beatles fans.

I've probably got or had about 3/4 of these albums. Never been a massive Adele fan. I like some of her songs, but the thought of listening to a whole album feels a bit much. I lost my dad in my late 20s.When I hear music he used to love, I hear him singing or see him dancing (real dad dancing) to his favourites. For me it's a joyful experience to remember him that way. I hope for you that the Queen album becomes a joyful memory, one to make you smile when you remember your dad. For many, music connects to a happy time/place/event. Remember those and the hole in your life where your father used to be is filled with him once again. ❤‍🩹

What a fantastic video. I've never watched you before but just subscribed. My dad passed away in 2020 from cancer. I was 43 at the time so in a kind of birth/life/death realist mindset about it. He spent his final 2 weeks in our house being nursed by my amazing wife, who for some time he struggled to accept, and to be honest was flat out disrespectful to. Over time he saw what I had seen from the beginning in the "foreign girl" who is 10 years younger than me (he had a very old-school upbringing in the English midlands). We've been together 14 years now and have 2 beautiful children. My dad was an amazing, funny, and ultimately selfless family man. The thing that brings me to tears now is the memory of those final 2 weeks, and of the mutual respect being silently communicated between my wife and my dad. I see a man once so terrified of losing his dignity now almost embracing the humiliation of being cared for as a means to live that little bit longer around those he loves. I see our whole family pulling together around him and holding back the grief so that the final sounds he heard were our usual banter and laughter. Most of all I see my wife (who is not a professional carer) giving my father the most peaceful, respectful, and ultimately forgiving ending he could possibly have wished for. I love that woman! My dad brought me up on Dire Straights. I totally get that BIA can be a struggle, but I would emplore you to watch their Alchemy Live performance of Telegraph Road. Great video Alanna. My thoughts: Adele- Not a fan, Amy Winehouse- never got into her, not my style, Fleetwood Mac- great band, Queen- who doesn't love Queen? Classic. Very sweet, hilarious story about Fat Bottom Girls. Dire Straits- I dig. I'm into them. Pink Floyd- one of the best of all time honestly. Prob my fav on the list. Haven’t made a comment on your channel for a couple of years because you get so many now is amazing how you channel has grown so firstly congratulations I remember those times when you lost your dad and went back to Canada back home and still you made some content in that hard time for us to follow…….but I just wanted to say music is the key of life and it is more powerful than people imagine how important it is to us all,I had a stroke 2 years ago so can no longer work but I make music on my iPad that isn’t half bad ,so music is the key of life

Queen 'Greatest Hits I' and 'Greatest Hits II' are both very good albums. Get your ears around their album 'Innuendo'. Their craftsmanship on this one in Freddie's last months of life was fantastic.

What a lovely video Alana, thank you so much. I too get a lot of my music taste from my dad, specifically how diverse our tastes are (not showing off or nothin). We used to listen to mixtapes in the car- it was rare to hear a whole album so I got The Kinks playing one minute (I’m actually named after one of their songs) then Eurythmics, Paul Young, back to Bowie and The Sweet, Yardbirds…just a good all round mix of stuff. My dad went to see so many bands as a young man in the 60’s (he saw The Beatles one week in his hometown, watched them again a town over the next week. Thought they were rubbish til Ticket to Ride came out, which tickles me) though obviously his formative years, he moved to loving some serious 80’s Electronica and I remember watching Faithless at Glastonbury on the tv with him, he said it must be amazing to be there watching that on stage in front of you. Taught me to just like music in general and I can honestly say I’ve never stuck to a particular genre. I’m lucky to still have both parents in reasonable health in my forties. I know there’ll be tracks I’ll struggle with when they’re gone, music is so intrinsic to memory, it is our true time machine. Lots of love Alanna! ❤

All great albums in my opinion. I remember buying one of the Queen albums when I was a teenager, and my mum absolutely loved them. I get it as I still can't listen to Killer Queen, my mum's favourite track. I still remember us dancing around and singing 🙂. She died in 1994 and I still can't process properly.

Lovely video Alanna, you really got to the heart of how music ignites our memories and makes our emotions swell. Although think yourself lucky that your beloved Dad filled your childhood with a band as great as Queen... my Mum listened to a massive amount of Barry Manilow and I know all his, ahem, 'classics' off by heart... whether I want to or not. 😔

Queen II (or 2, if you like!), is my favourite Queen album - and the first one I bought, including the single 'Seven Seas Of Rhye', which is my favourite song by them. Some of the songs are very much heavier than their later songs, and there's a lot of 'dungeons & dragons' about it, but you should give it a listen, and it should be a revelation to you! Also try their 3rd LP, 'Sheer Heart Attack'!!

Queen was my wife’s favourite band,and she wanted us to sing queen songs at her funeral. Incredibly difficult songs to sing, we did our best. Like you I have avoided Queen since then, I will have to try.

Really enjoyed this video. Took a lot of time and work from you but it’s worth it because you created something of quality. It’s a long video but the content is engaging all the way through. A music review is a be different from what your usual videos that I’ve seen but it’s still got the British emphasis so it’s a good idea. Queen...Yes!!! No one will ever surpass Freddie Mercury but the group as a whole, unbelievable!!! I grew up with Queen and their music was the soundtrack of my life.

Thanks Alanna, what a great idea to touch on music generally and your take on some top albums. I'm surprised that Dark Side of the Moon isn't higher and you could argue which of the Beatles albums is the best, but overall it's a pretty fair selection. Music stirs memories and emotions like nothing else and that's powerful and therapeutic, so remembering your Dad through music is a good thing - I find the older I get the more music makes me cry...in a good way.

The choice of albums is entirely up my street... except Oasis. The one song in that lot that can guarantee to get me tearful is Show must go on by Queen. This song was performed by Freddie Mercury just weeks before his death and, for me it was his swan song.The sheer power and drive, assisted by much Vodka, and oh, those lyrics! And all from a man who knew he was dying. Breaks my heart.

You have great taste in music! I have similar emotional reactions when listening to ABBA. My mother always played their music at home when she did the housework. She used to dance and sing along to the songs. She was always so happy and joyus when it was on. She is still alive, but she is getting older and is not in the best health anymore. When I hear dancing queen I can vividly see her as a young bubbly lady in the house who is dancing and singing along. My dad is at work and me and my brother are playing with our toys on the floor. I almost always well up and cry when I hear that song! I love my mother
