I'll Cry Tomorrow (1955) Official Trailer - Susan Hayward, Richard Conte Movie HD
Deprived of a normal childhood by her ambitious mother, Katie, Lillian Roth becomes a star of Broadway and Hollywood before she is twenty. Shortly before her marriage to her childhood sweetheart, David Tredman, he dies and Lillian takes her first drink of many down the road of becoming an alcoholic. She enters into a short-lived marriage to an immature aviation cadet, Wallie, followed by a divorce and then marriage to a sadistic brute and abuser Tony Bardeman. After a failed suicide attempt, Burt McGuire comes to her aid and helps her find the road back to happiness after sixteen years in a nightmare world, not counting the first twenty with her mother.

Her performance was so raw and probably hit close to home for some academy members which is probably why she didn’t get the Oscar that year.

Susan Hayward was a excellent choice for the lead roll of this film back then. RIP Ms. Hayward a fan of your work.

Love Susan Hayward. Such a tough broad back then. So willing to just 'go there' with a role. I haven't seen anyone convey on film the desperation of an addict so realistically, except for DiCaprio in Basketball Diaries. Hayward finally won for I Want to Live in '59, another powerhouse performance, arguably her best.

What a Great Actress , and Truly Great Hollywood star, Susan Heyward was, boy you certainly get your money's worth, could act them all off screen,!! Tragically she died so young, I Take my hat off To you Miss Heyward, Rest in ☮️ Peacex

there's one scene that always makes me cry... it's where Lillian and her mother are living in that shabby little apartment and pretty much broke and her mother accidentally knocks over that bottle and then they start fighting that was terrific acting.

Susan Hayward should have won her first Oscar for her performance. The Academy really screwed up on this one.

Thank you. While Anna Magnani was very good, Susan was phenomenal here and should NEVER have lost. Jo Van Fleet won in the supporting category that year for EAST OF EDEN. How could the Academy overlook her performance in I'll Cry Tomorrow?

Susan should have won the Oscar in 1956. Such a shame The Academy chose the Italian lady, Anna Maggini.

Anna won because in the 1950s it was fashionable to pick foreigners. Ridiculous that Susan Hayward lost coveted Oscar. As a good as Magnani's performance as Serafina was, Susan Hayward was far better as Lillian Roth, capturing her desperation in every frame of the film. An Academy travesty that she lost.

The only exception to the rule was British actress Deborah Kerr. Nominated 6 times, she never won.

Who wrote the description to this: The loss of her love that ALMOST engulfed her? What do you call all those years of heavy drinking? Nevertheless, Hayward was never better than in this film. The Oscar should have been hers for it.

It received five Oscar nominations, of course one for Susan (Best Actress) and won for the best black and white costumes.

Yes, Like her paired with Jo Van Fleet. They are quite a team, though in real life their age difference was not that much. Jo came from the first class of the Actor's Studio, and was no slouch in the acting department either. And Susan Hayward was a Brooklyn broad, and a real steamroller on the screen. Loved her. If you like her paired with Richard Conte (his film character here 'Tony Barton'.. is very violent), don't miss them in HOUSE OF STRANGERS. Max and Irene, period!!!

Why wasn't Conte nominated for his portrayal of ruthless Tony Bardem? Ditto for Eddie Albert's wonderful performance as Burt McGuire? I'll Cry Tomorrow is a picture for the ages. Never to be forgotten. This is what movie making should be all about!

Van Fleet should have won Oscar that year for I''LL CRY TOMORROW in the supporting category but instead won for EAST OF EDEN. She was far better in ICT. Did anyone know that Thelma Ritter, Hayward's co-star in WITH A SONG IN MY HEART, was considered for the part of her mother in ICT? Ritter, a 6 time Oscar nominee, but never winner was fabulous as Clancy the nurse in 'Song in My Heart.'

Susan should have won Oscar for her performance. Some of her scenes are too painful to watch and one is left with a feeling of wanting to sob! great acting when she dares you to look away BUT you cannot!

Lillian Roth's actual voice should of been used.....Susan Hayward didn't look like a girl in her twenties, and the film did not look like the 1920s or 1930s period either
