The energy they put towards pushing back the eviction they could channel towards finding work, rehab, or going back home.

It's two free cooked meals and free soap at the shelter, which no one would've given her on the street. Amazing that she finds reason to complain about that.

Its also time for the foreigners to return to their country of origin. SA can take care of its own. Its time we take back SA just like what happened with election 2024. SA belongs to those who were born, by both SA parents. Am tired of these people . A person cannot walk on the side walks. Look at our railways

I have sympathy with these homeless people. BUT calling upon their "right" to live one the streets instead of availing themselves of the provided shelters? And who do they think they can "hide" from on the streets, and what are they "hiding" from in this way? '

The City of Cape Town has a long history of relocating impoverished persons outside of city limits where there is no opportunity. Addressing the problem would be to make land available in the city centre for people and not for profit which is anathema to the policies of those in power. What you're seeing is as much a symptom of COCT planning as it is a result of the socio-economic circumstances that led to people having nowhere to live in the first place.

Shelters don't tolerate substance abuse and therefore they are not willing to go to shelters. It is shocking how openly drugs are used on the streets and the amount of used needles lying on the streets. It is generally not safe to pass these areas as these people get abusive if you don't give them money. The degradation of open spaces is an eye sore. I avoid Town as much as possible as this problem is all across Town.
@ashlouw5350
@ashlouw5350 26 күн бұрын
Exactly..thats the main reason why they dont want to live in a warm place with a roof over their heads because they can't do their drugs. Most of the homeless people you find nowadays on the streets are substance abusers. He says they're not animals and its true so why wouldn't he want to sleep in a warm place with food and basic necessities

More effort needs to be put into rehabilitation. Challenge is def substance abuse, or the this is why agriculture should be a bigger investment. These people would have purpose,food and shelter. Less crime. Sometimes I think these political leaders are not so intelligent... Make me the president I'll show you... I'm serious.
@ill-relevant2347
@ill-relevant2347 27 күн бұрын
true that, however I think focus should be on keeping drugs out of the country. There's always a chance for a rehabilitated person to go back to substance abuse, & it costs to rehabilitate

It is important to recognise that homelessness is a complex issue with varying causes and responses. Some individuals find themselves homeless due to the loss of work or unemployment, and they tend to appreciate any assistance that helps them get off the streets. These individuals often view support, such as shelters and basic hygiene supplies, as valuable resources. However, there is another group whose homelessness is tied to poor life choices and substance abuse. These individuals often resist rules and structure, preferring the streets over shelters or staying with family. They may complain about the quality of assistance, such as the type of soap or deodorant provided, even when these are better than having nothing. Understanding these different perspectives is crucial for developing effective solutions. Addressing the needs of those willing to accept help requires a different approach than engaging with those who remain resistant to change due to their lifestyle choices and addiction. Both groups need support, but tailored strategies are essential to effectively assist each one.

I just hot the last guy today in cape town, he was explaining me what is going on in the shelter, apparently they have to pay R75 per day in the shelter. He also told me he cannot go back were he use to stay. Is mom and grandma passes and the gangs were using him to commit crime. I understood were hes coming from, but i told him, he and God is the only one who can get him of the streets and thats not the way to live. Here's to many beautifull things to live for.

My heart goes out to these poor people. Sorry though, the City provides shelters as good as any in the world. The main problem is drugs and their perceived right to be on drugs all the time.
