You can tell about midway through the second verse she’s bunching her phrases together as a signal to the conductor to speed it up cause he was going too slow. But he never got the hint so she had to use muscle memory combined with the slower tempo which must have been SO hard live. She pulled it off like a champ though. That was dope.

She has a lot more control and choice of tone, because she has a higher soprano voice. She can do beautiful things that Lady GaGa will never be able to do in that range. But in this song, Lady Gaga uses the imperfections in that range, her breaks and airy placement to create vulnerability. Lea Salonga is on the opposite spectrum on this song. She has perfect control. Just as an opera singer. That is a whole different experience. If Lady Gaga wanted to do that, she would have pitched the entire song way down. But vulnerability is the very essence of that song. Gaga is a spectacular singer with a stunning deep alto voice and huge range. Not taking away from Lea Salonga - she has crystalline highs. Beautiful soprano voice, very smooth in the highs and across the entire range.

Lea's edge has always been her crystal clean tone and her strong foundations in vocal performance in theatre. Her impeccable enunciation of lyrics, mastery of breath control, knowledge of musicality and discipline have allowed her to be so consistent. She also has to be one of most disciplined singers who takes care of her voice and strives for excellence. Because in the end, she knows and believes that it is the MUSIC that is most important. I have really high expectation after listening to Gaga's version, her dynamics and compatibility between her vocal expression and the lyrics are just impeccable. But I tell myself not to compare after seeing the comments and, boy, was I happy I didn't! Lea's ability to sing it live and such overtones! Beautiful, beautiful tone!

I'm gonna have to agree that Gaga wrapped the song with so much feels and emotion. But we cannot discount the fact that Gaga sang it for a movie, she had to incorporate FILM ACTING with her singing, we can even hear her crying in some parts. And of course, if you have watched the movie, Gaga's singing is really going to cut you deep because this song is the "wrap" of the entire story (closing song po ito). Kaya po siguro sinasabi nyong mas may emotion yung version ni Lady Gaga. Personally, kay Lea ko unang narinig yung kanta and sobrang naapektohan talaga ako, paiyak na nga eh. Lea beautifully interpreted the song. She tells the story in a different perspective. And take note... Unlike Gaga who sang it in line with songs that were written specially for the same story, Lea sang it in between songs that are of different meaning and context. To think na na-deliver nya yung mood ng kanta sa unang nota palang, ang galing2 nya. And I think if ise-set aside lang natin yung bias, the message (or emotion) is really going to come across. Let's be fair. Both versions are outstanding. Stop comparing.
