There's a reason behind that! The general Aussie accent is from having convicts from different places in Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England etc all put into one area. Because some of the accents are quite thick, the Australian accent is kind of an inbetween accent of all those places so everyone could understand each other. It's also why a lot of slang is the same. And depending on which areas have more eg. Irish heritage, they might sound more vaguely Irish. For example, South Australians are said to have a more British sounding accent than other parts of Australia. And there's said to possibly be some Chinese influence into the accent as well. We do have regional accents btw, like you can tell if someone is from the country, Western Australia, Queensland (classic Queensland drawl), Aboriginal Australian accents which vary depending on the local languages spoken etc. What most non-Aussies think of as the Australian accent is more of a country or Eastern States (Adelaide, Sydney etc) accent, as most of the population is there. This is a long ass comments sorry!
