@@Poppaea-SabinaThis has nothing to do with eventing, though. This was a dressage show or competition, where the rider was asked to do a jump. The jump was pretty much for fun. These are Ingrid Klimke with dressage stallion Franziskus. He's one of the best dressage horses in the world, but has a double job in sports and breeding. Ingrid even owns two of his sons, I think they're very close to Grand Prix Special level now... Anyways, nothing eventing going on here. Also, dressage horses are the most athletic of them all, especially stallions become very muscular from the dressage training.

Horses are like people and like different things. I had an event horse once that loved cross country. I also had a dressage horse that love dressage. My quarter horse didn't like either. All three i took out on trail rides. You never jump a horse every day. Even jumpers don't. All Horses gain something from dressage which just means training. It teaches balance. In Europe it is customarily for even dressage horse to be trained to jump. What i see here is a horse trusting his rider.

Jumping, dressage, hacking, groundwork should all be parts of every horse no matter their discipline. A healthy horse will have all basics covered, not only for muscle development, but also for less boredom. And the added bonus of in the event the owner passes and the horse has to be sold on, it can be ridden by probably anyone, and taken to their preferred shows if they wish, without stressing the horse out and making it easier on the new rider. That's why I'll make my horses mainly bitless, but train bitted every month or so, for the worst case scenarios.
