I Love Nobara Linux - Goodbye Manjaro and Distro Hopping

I have used basically every Linux distro it seems, going all the way back to Slackware in the 90s. I've mostly felt dissatisfied with them for one reason or another until I started using Manjaro heavily in the last couple of years. I like running the latest kernel and apps and Manjaro always met those needs.
When Fedora 37 came out, I was intrigued and tried it in a VM. Once I made the switch on my main machine, I ran into some weird audio issues. When I was just about to go running back to Manjaro, I decided to give Nobara a shot, and I'm so glad that I did. Nobara has been amazing to use in basically every way. It's Fedora 37 but BETTER.
Nobara seems to be geared toward Linux gamers but really, it's great for everybody. Give it a shot!

I like Manjaro KDE. In Nobara I had a problem with the Polish language and a problem with wifi during installation.

I always find it interesting where people land when they eventually stop distro hopping. I landed on opensuse stayed there for almost 20 years, then they decided to discontinue leap and tumbleweed broke in under a week. I hopped around for a bit and liked debian, but eventually tried the fedora cinnamon spin and have stayed there for almost a year now.

Used nobara for 6 months and switched to monjaro for a week and switched back to nobara.

I haven’t found an issue with it yet. Nothing making me want to switch back to Manjaro.

Manjaro is rolling. Have it on some old hardware. Didn't upgrade or touch the machine for over five years. Opened it and did full upgrade. Restarted and just works perfect with newest kernel and software, everything! That's manjaro. Can Nobara give me that?

My only complain is that the Nobara package manager is absolute garbage for newer linux users, which is ironic.

I'm on Steam OS because my Steam Deck is my primary computer, but before I bought my Steam Deck, I was on Nobara too. It's a solid distro.

How do you like the Steam Deck? How do you like using it as a computer?

@@credibledev I love it, although I have my complaints, primarily pertaining to the way it handles shader cache's and compat files. My 64gb Model has filled up despite having no games on the internal SSD. I think it's fine if you buy a higher-capacity model (or replace the internal SSD upon purchase), but I wouldn't recommend the base 64gb model for anyone really. That being said, it functions pretty much like most Linux distros. The filesystem is immuitable, which is simultaneously a strength and a weakness. But you could isntall any distro you wanted on it. I'm sticking with Steam OS for now because I really like gaming mode and having the optimisations and tweaks it has. But yeah, it's replacing a 12 year old ThinkPad T420, to say this is an upgrade for me would be an understatement.

Yeah right, I imagine 80% of linux users tell themselves they have found the "perfect" distro and wont go to another. That's what happens when there is too much choice!!

I agree with this, there is too much choice. For someone hearing about Linux for the first time, I imagine it is quite overwhelming and confusing. The current amount of distros really breeds the distro hopper mindset.

I've been on nobara for quite a while and I'm very happy with a distro that can play my steam library with little to no problems and I'd only change to steam os 3 if it ever came out

That`s what happens when you don`t see it for what it is. A tool to run usefull application. It`s just an os.

Sorry, but the "there's too much choice" excuse for people wanting everyone to like exactly what THEY like is not a good one. Do you complain that there is "too much choice" talking about pizza places, or burger places? Do you think there is "too much choice" talking about car brands, or hotel chains? Choice is GOOD, what I like in a distro may be something you dislike, should we take away your choice?

had a lot of issues (gnome issues) i switched to manjaro a few days ago it is better. i used to use manjaro on this computer and i use arch on my work computer so it just feels more at home

Most of the time when I need to install a 100kb program, flatpak downloads 2gb and then this program doesn't work because of the super-smart sandbox.

@@W_0_W well, flatpak need to download the dependencies, but they are shared, so you only download 2 gb the first time, and about the sandbox, the app need to have good portal implementation to work properly, but when it do(like telegram that has a top tier flatpak support) it's easier and even more integrated to the system

Maybe you should start using your computer like everybody else. Having an OS as a meaning of life seems really pathethic to me. Get over it. It`s just a tool.
