Jimmy, given that you will be tearing down your current layout for the new modular one in the future, would it be possible for us to see one last in depth tour of the layout as it is with MRROne attached and end it with a big Ops session with all the modules you have together? Would love to see everything as one large mini empire before it gets recycled, thanks in advance and love the channel!

I’m glad you wrote this comment. Too many people model in the overrated NS and UP. Modeling more classic ones like B&M, BAR, and Maine Central is more unique and rewarding. Growing up just outside Boston and now living in Maine makes me a bit biased 😂

Well, I’m running a small layout that depicts Dad’s Army, the 1960s and 70s television series. The locomotives are all Southern steam locomotives from the London and South Coast Railway Company. Another thing I’m planning to do in the future is a 009 layout of the Volks Railway in Brighton.

I looked up the C39’s and only 2 remain in use for testing in the US. It said it was liked by railroads because at 3900 HP they only needed 2 Engines for the Mountains. The crews “Disliked” them because they were noisy, rode hard and broke down frequently. These are before my Modern Era, but the 16 Cyl can be made to Sound great! Try using the new Tonal Control in LokProgrammer an Add Bass, less Treble. I heard another guy’s C-39 N Scale and it sounded incredibly Throaty at Idle and Slow speeds. I might just have to get one to Consist with my SD60I for Local runs! 🎉

That’s a nice model. I’ve seen two reviews on this unit and I’m thinking about getting one. I think I’m going to get it with DCC and sound. You know you were running it in reverse. That locomotive was run long nose forward. Thanks for sharing. Have a good week. 😎😎. 👍

Not a fan of manufacturers moving to E24 when ESU doesn't yet have non sound decoders. I have a nice shiny new GP7 from Atlas in need of a decoder that doesn't yet exist. The SD 7/9s they release last fall also are using the E24 socket.

I’m curious as to why you purchased a DCC ready locomotive and then went through the trouble of installing what you had to, VS just buying the DCC equipped model and it being ready to go out of the box? I’m extremely new and learning every day, I’m honestly curious and trying to learn more. Your channel is a big help! Ty

Is there a reason in buying the Dcc ready version and installing the decoder and speaker. I feel like it cost more in the end. I preordered this loco and it’s now the fourth scale train’s locomotives I have. Love them. Now I just need my three sd40-2 to come in from preorder. lol. Love your videos keep them coming

Hi do you know of any one that can work on HO eng's. they turn on the horn works and the bell, you can hear the eng but it will not move and when I went to remove them they were very worm

So. I'm new to model railroading and haven't bought any locomotives yet. If it says DCC ready I thought you pulled it out of the box programmed it and ran it. Why do you have to spend say $300 on a model then spend another $100-$200 on a decoder and install it yourself. That's $500 the factory could have done theirselves. Plus you have to buy and install the speakers? Is this every model or just Scale Trains.

“DCC Ready” refers to a locomotive with much of the internal electronics needed for a DCC decoder, but lacks the actual decoder & speakers and usually just has a plug for a decoder if one ever wants to use a decoder. “DCC Equipped” refers to a locomotive that has all of that infrastructure and a decoder put into it at the factory. This is the case for most manufacturers, including ScaleTrains, where DCC Equipped is around ~$100 more expensive than DCC Ready. Some people prefer DCC Ready so that they can run them on a DC layout without paying for an expensive decoder. Others prefer DCC Ready so that they can install another company’s decoder instead (for example, some people may not like the sound of a particular brand’s decoder and want to use a different manufacturer for the decoder).

@@christiankroemer4267 ok. I think I understand it now. So if it says DCC Equipped it has everything you need and program and go. DCC ready means it can be a DC locomotive and you can upgrade it to DCC then program and go. I guess another question would be then. If its DCC Equipped can you take the decoder off and run it as DC as well?

@@dannyking748Yes, technically you could. You would just replace the decoder with something called a “dummy plug”. It is already installed on all DCC Ready locos and just keeps the electronics safe.
