When it was revealed that Eren really does love Mikasa and that EreMika was actually sailing, I was so happy. I was actually about to give up on these two because of the uncertainties surrounding them. Sadly, Eren had to become the bad guy and die in order for Mikasa, Armin, and the rest of his friends to have a good life. They had to set aside the love they have for each other in order to perform their designated roles that is crucial for all humanity. They were for each other, but it wasn't the right time, place, and life.

no no, he confessed SPOILER ALERT! they even ran away together but then in that alternative path Eren passes away due to curse anyway after 4 years and Paradise is wiped out due to genocide war crimes from rest of the world. Eren never had a choice, but to do what he done to protect Mikasa and his friends. Mikasa lived together with Him for 4 years in alternate path at the end, litteraly, she knew and Aamir is narrating, they knew that he had his hand tied. In epilogue its shown she never forgot him and loved him until she passed away from old age. He passed away living meaningful life and to protect Mikasa and his loved ones.
