Fair enough, I remember when they first became popular and all the grandmas were unhappy 😂. I love them, you dont end up eating a ton of icing. I personally think they are very "adult" looking. Around here they have been the de rigeur cake for pretty much everything because everyone in Canada fancies themselves "outdoors-y" and they lend themselves so well to an outdoor event. Very rustic glam. I especially love the fresh flowers and gold leaf. ❤

i love a semi-naked cake! feels like seeing dirt through grass, and that’s one of my favourite things. it’s symbolic that, through all the perfection a relationship may display on the surface, you’re ready and prepared for any rough patches that may come up. i really love them. as you can tell, they mean a heck of a lot to me, i think they’re just great 🥰

Honestly they look really gorgeous, gives you a humble and welcoming vibe, reminds me of an older house with a few chips on the paint, a few scratched floors, but also this cake still brings that to its best.

My mom’s been a cake decorator for 20+ years and I think the reason she feels that a naked cake is unfinished is because most of what she does has fondant over the top and the “skin” of the cake has to be full or it’s an imperfection. I can see the rustic vibe but it’s like blue cheese, you either love it or hate it and it only goes with specific themes. Also, on a side note, I trust that those flowers are fresh but I’ve never understood live flowers on cake. Some like lilies are toxic and I can see a lot of people accidentally putting toxic flowers on cakes not knowing that they are. My mom would always make them out of sugar and they would be as lovely, edible, and keepsake-able via freezer. Just my experience and opinion 🤷🏼‍♀️

My mom made a semi-naked cookie cake out of box cookie mix for my brother’s wedding a month ago. She’s not a professional or anything but she was really proud of that cake. People at the reception really liked it too.

Love it! My neighbour, who never baked a grand cake in her life, did a naked cake with roses for her daughters 1st birthday (back in 2018)... you would think she was a professional! Those cakes are amazing and I would like one for my future wedding 😊

I find it strange because the first time I had seen a cake like this was back in late September when I went to my cousins wedding. I never had that thought though. I thought it was either custom commission or how the cake was supposed to be. I will always assume the person who makes cakes or people that order them know what they want or what they’re doing!! I’d choose semi naked coz I don’t like lots of icing on my cake. Stores slap on like an inch of icing and I can’t even taste the cake, I usually have to scrape some icing off. I feel like this method is useful for people like me. Plus it looks neat

There are some beautifully done rustic cakes out there. Not every one wants a cake completely covered in frosting. To me naked cakes have the perfect ratio of cake and frosting

I’ve seen a lot of people scrape off the majority of the frosting (especially when the icing layer is very thick) so this seems like a good idea to me. Much less waste ^-^

Vintage cakes used to be decorated in this style alot ..people used what they could find in nature like flowers ,leaf branches and small juicy fruits like berries to decorate..those were the days🥰🥰🥰

It’s the super minimalist all white rustic decor aesthetic but in a cake.

I love semi-naked cakes! We don’t like a lot of frosting in our house and we have a lot of diabetics in the family, so I make semi naked cakes for any occasion that isn’t a child’s birthday. We just don’t need that extra frosting most of the time and it seems a waste to make that much for everyone to scrape most of it off anyway. We are very diet conscientious here, and we take other people’s needs into consideration so everyone can join in on the fun. Obviously, kids are mostly in it for the frosting so for their birthdays, they get to pick what they want, but you can make a cake that’s still beautiful with less frosting and everyone can enjoy it for any other occasion.
