I have to say, Merle's voice...and range is an easy reach for many men, and I think while one can imitate his "Drops" and some of his tone. It's not fair to assume people are always trying to imitate the Hag. As a Singer since I was younger I can attest to this. Heck the more you listen to great voices, you find your own.

Does anyone else get the feeling that 'new' country doesn't have the same feel of 'classic' country? New country is just newly wrapped pop music in my honest opinion. Give me Merle Haggard or Willie Nelson or George Jones or Waylon Jennings or Alabama. Anything from back in that era over anything today. In my opinion, if anyone comes forward as a classic country AUTHENTIC musician he would blow the socks off of the modern era. Authenticity matter most of all.

These boys weren't even alive when Merle released this, powerful to see what it means it to this younger generation

Wonderful how these young musicians can take a great song and make it their own , great tribute to the the writers, the Anderson's, as well as Merle.

Why is it only country pickers appreciate the old songs? other genres rarely pay tribute to those who came before

When you ran most of your life and you finally found peace, that outlaw music hits just right. It refers more to the spiritual battle for me. The more I work on my relationship with my creator the more evil nips at my heals. 'I'd like to settle down but they won't let me'. Broke through another level of healing today. Thanks boys for being so phenomenal. 🌠

It's not possible to like this enough! You Fellas restore my faith in the future of music. With all the crap being passed off today, you bring it back to real! Thank you from the bottom of my heart

Man, what a wonderful performance. These two young fellows give me faith that, someday, the wheel will turn and REAL musicians like these two will replace the garbage that is currently considered popular music. You two guys may not know it, but the two of you are both an inspiration to a lot of us "old farts."

I always play this more than once when I listen to it. I remember being a kid in the 80's and my dad , uncle's and their buds playing poker and drinking listening to this song and tons of other outlaw country.
