I have to be honest here, the quality of this tent is AMAZING especially when you consider the price!
I simply don't believe it!
Years have passed since I have reviewed anything from this company and that changes today; in this episode I am taking a fresh look at the Teton Sports Mountain Ultra tent and I'm blown away!

TETON SPORTS MOUNTAIN ULTRA 1 PERSON TENT
What it is : This is a 3 season 1 person tent from the company known as Teton Sports. This is a budget friendly shelter that I have high hopes that I can ultimately recommend.
Before I can, I need to take a close look at the shelter and then test it out. Coming soon!
Back in 2017 I reviewed this tent and ultimately recommended and with it being 2022, this tent has changed some and it is time to reevaluate this product.

How the 2022 version is different than the 2017 version.
Luckily I still have my notes to compare important details
The new 2022 version is smaller by 2” in all dimensions when setup.
Dimensions: 82" x 32" x 39.5"
Packed Dimensions are virtually the same.
The newest version is slightly less heavy - 4.4lbs compared to 4.7 of the older version.
Teton sports used to state the hydrostatic rating but no longer does so. The fly was rated at 3000mm but this is no longer stated.
The materials are different; the older version featured a high denier rain fly
The older version included a groundsheet whereas the new one does not.
The price of the old version was $130 retail, I paid $118 for it back then.

With these changes the only big con that I see is the change in size; cutting 2” from each dimension could translate to a tent that simply will not work for all individuals instead they will have to get either a 2 person tent or go with a different product entirely.
The change in materials isn’t that big of a deal as long as the overall performance is similar.
Coming up I will begin with my testing of this product and we will see how well it performs in the rain. That is a big question for me.
It is my hope that this tent performs well as I would love to be able to recommend this tent and even the larger sizes for those who are looking for budget options.

Teton sports has helped me a lot. I had the scout 3400 backpack, and sadly lost it in a house fire. I emailed them to see if I could get a discount for a new one and they just sent me a replacement. Absolutely wonderful people

I love hearing stories like this and they often genuinely make me want to buy something to support them. I have a few Teton products floating about. If this tent performs well I might be in the market.

I just got the Mountain Ultra 2 and I am very impressed. I set it up yesterday expecting rain overnight. Not only did we get rain, but a 1/2" of snow overnight as well. I was a little nervous when I went outside to see snow standing on the tent, however it was completely dry!

I purchased the teton sports ultra 1 after watching your review last year, I was super impressed with the tent. Teton sports as a company is excellent, with great customer service. When my ultra 1 arrived there was no footprint in the tent, but the "what's included sheet" listed the footprint included with the tent, so I e-mailed a pic of that "what's included sheet" to teton sports and they owned up to that error and sent me a footprint, free of charge, since they no longer include the footprint with the tent. Excellent company to deal with, from my personal experience!! Looking forward to your follow-up!!

I can second that, same situation for me. I emailed Teton Sports and Alexandra, the customer service agent, helped to send me the tent footprint all the way to Singapore free of charge. Very happy with the company : ) P.S. the tent is also excellent btw

I got one in August and it’s been great. Five inches of rain in three days on the first test. Long slow rains and a couple of those 2 inches in an hour pounders and it didn’t let a drop in.

@@stevemotley808 I don’t believe you will be disappointed! My only thing is the mesh isn’t drawn as tight as I’d like so it can sag in on you some(I take up a lot of room at 6’ 275 though) and the stakes it comes with aren’t the best for soft ground, and obvs bend easy.

Teton probably has a solid Q.C. department that does there job well. I have no doubt she'll crush the rain test. I'm also glad to see they offer a gray fly for the stealthy camper.

Yeah I like muted tents, every tent should be offered in earthy or drab colors. I'm not trying to send a signal to space every time I get away from people.

@@john0270 My thoughts exactly haha. Even when I'm camping legally I want left alone. The only time I'd want bright colors would be for a legitimate mountaineering expedition or something that visibility would be something you'd want for a potential rescue. Which isn't exactly something I do often.

I have the Mountain Ultra 3 and so far it has been a good tent. It has stood up to the abuse of having 3 dogs in and out of it. No leaks. Super easy to set up.

When I first got into backpacking my first sleeping bag was a Teton Sports bag because it was the least expensive I could find. I still have it and it's actually be really great. Even though they're less expensive I think Teton Sports is a pretty good quality brand.

Out of convenience I shop at Sportsman Warehouse and they carry Teton. I have 2 sleeping bags and some accessories from them and all have proven their quality as well as value

Super review, Luke! It looks like Teton has done it again for people on tight budgets. I own other Teton products and love them. I live the van life and own one of their base mats and use it on my bed. Quality and comfort...even more comfortable than the bed I previously slept on. I was on a tight budget as I converted my van into a camper. This tent may be an addition for nights I want to sleep on a beach ⛱.

I still have my 2017 version of the 3 person tent. Have been in numerous rain storms. Pitched right, open air flow from the ground is great, only condensation problem when there is fog over night. Still love my tent. There only problem, the storage bag has a tear in it. But that's it. Thanks for everything.

Love this tent. I baught mine 2 years ago after watching your reviews on it before. I used it in Kentucky last year in the Red River Gorge and it rained hard at night each night we were there and I stayed completely dry. Well worth the money. Mine came with the ground sheet. Honestly, I love Teton products. They're affordable, and the quality, in my opinion, is very good for the price range. The only thing I don't like about their products is the very loud colors they use. I like to be a little more incognito. 😁

Good morning Luke. I purchased the 2 person version several mo. ago and other than setting it up in my yard and letting it get rained on, have not actually camped in it yet. My take is this: Very inexpensive for the quality provided. Absolutely no leaks after rain except for a small amount of ground splash up which was my fault in site selection. Has a few loose threads but not bad. Zippers are prone to snag but also not a game changer for me. Easy set-up and if you neatly fold and roll, everything goes in stuff sack including footpring. Stakes are cheap but I use heavier ones anyway. Overall, very pleased with this tent and really appreciate your honest review and reporting.

Great review! Look forward to the rest. I discovered Teton Sports last year as I was starting to purchase camping/backpacking gear and so far I have liked everything I bought from them. I had one issue with the seam of my cushion tearing (probably my fault.. I'm guessing I had it too close to the fire and it melted the glue or something) and I sent them pictures and they sent a new pillow no questions asked. I have the sit cushion, a water bladder, a small day hike backpack that the water bladder fits in, and the +20 Leef Mummy bag which is very very toasty inside.

Looks pretty sweet. Good colors for hunting season. Good warranty. Never owned a Teton tent but i have owned a few backpacks and a sleeping bag. Still got em. Not the lightest items but they are built good quality and the price was right. Lets hope this tent holds up to the test night!

Just a two day camp with the 1 person tent (I bought it because of this review and the next) but it was the easiest set up and take down I’ve ever had. It didn’t rain so I can’t attest to that but, it didn’t seem very sturdy and otherwise easy to use. I ordered the two person tent so I can take my 5 year old son on an actual camping trip and not just in the back yard so hopefully that one holds up just as well. Thanks the review Luke.

There is a lot of Teton sports products I like and use. Their backpacks are very durable. I hope it is waterproof. Can't wait to see you put it through the test. thanks always for your reviews Luke. Great review, I am always interested in how some of the cheaper tents perform. I've had a Teton Sports sleeping bag that I've used off and on over the last 6 years and it has held up shockingly well. Not the warmest bag in the world, but it has solid construction and outlasted a lot of other pieces of equipment.

I've owned a few Teton backpacks but never a tent, always good quality. The tent I went with is a Marmot Crane Creek 2 person and never had any issues. Good price and quality.

It sounds like Teton has leveled up their QC department, and their production quality. I've got a little bit of Teton gear for my kids, and it works, but it's all a few years old, and yeah, the build quality was like you found before and although adequate, the gear isn't our first choice for camping any more. Based on the outcome of this series I may have to revisit my opinion of their products.

Very cool. Several scouts in my sons troop have Teton backpacks. Dozens of camping and backpacking trips without issue. We do a thorough pack check and weigh out days before backpacking trips... no issues with this brand. My pack is a Kelty, my son has an REI... no issues recommemding Teton.

Alps Mountaineering is another great budget tent, every model we've purchased stays dry in extremely heavy rains and didn't break the bank or the back.

I have their 0° square sleeping bags, left zip and right zip for the wife and myself. They are awesome! I've used them down to about 15°F and was cozy and warm. Teton makes good quality gear and reasonable prices.

I got this tent in August so don’t know if it’s the same “version”. But it’s killed it so far. I left it out in the rain as soon as I could, five inches in three days, and it was dry as a bone. Also have had great experiences with their customer service when I’ve had questions(TY, Allison Neal, for not laughing at me too hard!).

i bought a couple of budget friendly backpacks and I'm very impressed. in a heavy amount of abuse it has held up really well. i use one of them for my rock climbing gear, constant abuse on rocks and brush and it is still in good shape. Teton so far has me impressed. i might need one of these tents. just need to see if it's waterproof

I have Teton stuff, always been happy with my sleeping bags. My uncle has the cot with pad. It 5 years old or so maybe more, and going strong.

I have the Teton sports Mesa 14x10 canvas tent and it’s great, also have their XXL cot and pad and paired with the deer hunter sleeping bag and pillow , all good quality items, I have no complaints about Teton sports

Nice tent for this price. Don't like the orange color but it might be useful when camping at a festival. You can spot it from a mile away in a sea of tents. Liked the detailed review. Great job on that.

I purchased the original tent 5 years ago. I love it. I have around 70 nights in this tent and it's still good as new (I take really good care of it.) I camp mostly on the shores of Lake Michigan. It's done well in high winds, heavy rain and even in the snow. I'm not sure I like the smaller size of the new version. Not sure if that would work for me. I'd like to see a green/khaki color.

I have the Teton Mt 3 person tent . Best tent I’ve ever used. Last summer it poured and there was flooding . The ground surrounding my tent became flooded with a couple inches of water overnight and it was like walking on a water bed . It was completely dry the whole time. It has two doors which saved me cause there was a dry spot at rear of tent so I was able to get in and out without going directly into the water. I also have a 2Teton packs and the camp pillows and a mummy bag. I have used everything but the mummy bag . Everything is awesome just wish pillows were larger .

I know that Chinese manufacturers can make high quality products but I prefer not to buy from them for others reasons as do a lot of people therefore I think it would be good if you mentioned where each product is made as part of your review. I can understand if you have good reason not do this which is ok also. Keep up the great work.

Since I couldn't find any useful review for this backpack I wish you would review it: The ESSL RU90, an alpine backpack and the basic backpack used by the austrian army. Really would be nice to see a review about it since it is way cheaper than most backpacks I've seen so far.

Needed to get a few sleeping bags for the kids to get used to sleeping outdoors/camping. got a new Teton bags when I couldn't find any other name brand for decent price. Was happy with the quality of the bags so far for 3 trips.

I'm looking foreward to part two 🙂 👍 I bought a tent from China some time ago, that is totally the same'ish. I could get it in Coyote and Olive and Orange. I got the Coyote colour. It turned out to weigh 1.3 kg ! (now its 1.7 kg) I've added reinforcements at the points where the ends of small horizontal tent pole touches the fly, and I've added some loops for extra guylines. Extra guylines are absolutely needed to secure tents like this in high winds, as it is quite tall, with flimzy (lightweight) tent poles. And I've installed a push-button to secure the zipper of the fly from opening in high winds. I've seamsealed it, because I always do that to my tents... and impregnated the fly and the bathtub floor. I would not bring it out in any snow, but in heavy rain and high winds it has tested to perform great for several days. My only greaf is, that the zipper in the fly is only a one-way zipper... Oh, and I only payed 14 USD !

Good review. I've always liked the quality and functionality of Teton Sports gear. Appears this one is no exception. One thing, I wish they had kept the slightly larger footprint the same. When I camp in the backyard or car camp i like to use a 3" thick standard twin xl mattress pad to sleep on, and those are 80"x30". So that will still just fit inside this tent, which is good, but the extra inch or so on all sides of the prior model would be nice to have. Given that the twin xl does still fit inside, however snuggly, I consider this a minor thing that would not keep me from buying it. And besides, most people don't use the larger twin xl mattress pad, most use normal camping pads of various sizes, all of which will fit nicely, and Teton offers numerous good choices for those too. That said, I prefer the larger 4 person version for my uses, even when I use it alone or just two of us, and given the lightweight materials it still packs up reasonably small. Something for everyone.

Looking forward to the rain test! I'm interested in this and other products from Teton. I'd like to see a 2 person tent from them tested. If we could get a full Teton sleep system that would be awesome! Tent, sleeping bag and pad. Also how about a backpack to fit it all in too!

I just got this in and was setting it up in my bedroom to test my xxl Klymaloft pad to see if it would fit and it did. Luke you are right I checked it out no lose threads and it was nice. I was putting it a way the one of the metal grommets came out at the red tag by the pole. :(

I have the Teton leaf 0 sleeping bag and teton backpacking pack and they have both been solid and got good reviews on KZfaq. Haven’t seen a Teton purchase be bad for me. Went to the boundary waters for a couple weeks snd they were solid.
