Sending a newborn to daycare is almost child abuse, how can you possibly trust anyone with a new baby? I have four kids so I know what I’m talking about

Yes scrimp and save on daycare and send your kid to a random place so they can get assaulted like what happened in that one John Delony call. Thanks Ken, great advice.

That's what me and my wife did, it made no sense for one of us to go to a job where all that income was just going to daycare, when my wife can stay home with our own kids and have a few extra kids for the extra income. Plus the tax write-offs on all our expenses. For us it was a no-brainer. I don't know why more people don't look into this. The only way I wouldn't do it is if I had a job I absolutely loved, and I also didn't like kids lol.

@@todd2324 oh I agree. That's why I mentioned that at the end, if you don't like kids then no way LOL. But at least consider it. Financially, it worked out very well, but again if you can stand the work. Honestly, parents themselves were just as bad as some of the kids.

Yeah, there was no way me and my wife were going to pay that much and still try to work, so we solved it by just having daycare in our own home. Good income and tax write-offs.

Time to get creative. Work nights instead of days. Work part-time. Ask for help from your family members - mom, dad, aunts, uncles, grandparents, siblings, cousins, etc.

Daycare for infants is almost impossible to find at some places you have to get on the wait list before getting pregnant to have a place to take your baby after birth.

Yea we just started shopping for my 12 months old and the Montessori place we like is like $500 a week. We have a second on the way also. We’re looking at like $48k a year in day care pretty soon 😵

Man, this was so applicable to my wife and I, and it turned out to be a non-advice response from Dave, which is very disappointing. I’d love to know what to do myself and how to plan for it in the case of a 2nd kiddo

the reason he avoided the question is because he will reveal the underlying issues many christians face... produce more children vs financial stability..... he doesnt want to go against christian doctrine, so he avoids the question.... but its obvoius... in the modern world, its designed for us to not be able to afford children. Dave is a coward for dodging the question.

Maybe Dave blew him off because he doesn't have an answer. Ken handled it a bit better, but too late.

I tried calling the Dave Ramsey show two years ago with a question. I did not know that it's not a show that you call in. you have to leave them a message and your question and if they feel like it is good for them to take they will call you and have you hold. so the fact that Dave did not know what's going on tells me that his staff did not prep him on that call

I agree that Dave was dead wrong here. But "owes every working parent an apology" is super snowflaky, dare I say grow a pair.

If you can't afford daycare then someone stays home. I worked in daycare and every parent told me that one of the two incomes went to paying daycare. Then stay home! But they wanted to live beyond their means. They wanted the bigger house, newer car, and to go to the salon every week. Sorry Charlie! When kids were raised at home things were better. The future generations are being RAISED in daycares staffed with apathetic and sometimes cruel minimum wage workers. Wake up America.

Some daycares have waiting lists for infants that are longer than a year. Meaning you have to get on the list before you’re even pregnant. Ask me how I know.

that's why people say we dream of success ourselves but once we do reach it, although we experienced the turmoil before, it becomes a blur because it's not in our focus anymore, and being able to relate to someone going through it is going to be different because we made our own choices and they have to make theirs. life sucks like that because we all go through similar things but not one person has all the answers, so you just be there for support when needed. Dave heard the tone of the caller and took it literally this guy is having a baby because of how concerned he sounds, but hung up because we could go forever worrying about hypothetical stuff that could make things less manageable. he isn't like a young father with no career, he doesn't technically need to worry as if he is one but he is because he realizes how good he has it to have an extra almost 15 thousand a year he doesn't need to touch, and doesn't just want to sink to be like the rest of Americans. Dave should've understood since he is afraid of bankruptcy again so much, he doesn't finance anything even for his business that has so much potential he shouldn't have to be thinking like it's a real possibility, but clearly, he lives like it is. so this guy was just doing the same thing but Dave couldn't see the correlation in being driven in fear of the worst. aka motivation from anxiety, which I have as well lol

Dave had a few of the facts incorrect in the beginning that got clarified But other than that, I think you’re wrong. Dave doesn’t play the empathy game. Dave tells you like it is. What he said is if you have another kid you can either spend everything you make or you can make more income or you can find a way to put two kids together and save them daycare. And you just got to figure it out if you want to have another kid

Right? $1300/month is like $7-8/hour for childcare. You can’t get any cheaper than that unless you’re literally paying someone (some grandma from church apparently) below minimum wage.

It was never a stage for the Boomer generation. They were much more hospitable with their community back then, but only because society is more dangerous today.

I don't think you quite get what hes saying. A baby is hypothetical until its conceived and I say this as a previous infertile who made career decisions for years on what ifs......

He knows it's all voluntary and nobody is prepared for it. All about choices.

@@alsemm if it's greedy capitalists, how do you explain non profit days cares being just as expensive? it's called basic supply and demand. Since every household must be a 2 income household it drives daycare demand up and there's a shortage thus driving the high costs. If parents cared more about raising their children instead of their own selfish career goals, daycare for single parents would be lower.

How about just not having another baby?

Honest question - I’m doing the math now to see if this is feasible for us. If so, we’d go down to one car as well. But my question is how did the home parent do without a car? I wouldn’t be able to take the kids to appointments or get groceries. Or even free stuff like take them to the park. Wouldn’t be feasible to drive my hubby to work with 2 babies , because he works almost an hour away and leaves at 5 am.

@Lauren You need to be super intentional. When he is home, prepare for that week coming up by going to get groceries and meal planning, so you don’t NEED anything while he’s away. As for appointments, those are once in a blue moon, not every day (or so we choose to live). There were times that an appointment couldn’t be done when he is home, so I would drive the 1 hour at 5am to drop him off with the kids sleeping in their carseats, so I could have the vehicle that day. If it was simple everyone would do it. As for parks etc, when you start walking to places nearby with the stroller, you’ll notice things you may have missed exploring otherwise. It’s my “job” to make it work without the vehicle, and we chose this, so it’s not hardship, I just have a paid for house faster than my peers - so I get it easier later in life.

I know right..I'm so fortunate that I get a staff discount as I work at the daycare both my children attend!

It's a tough struggle. Really have to rely on BOTH parents to plan shift hours across 24/7. I envy single mothers and mothers with underachieving partners.

That's what I was thinking. I agree with most of Dave's advice but sometimes he has trouble stepping away from his own experience. If it wasn't a problem for him, then it shouldn't be one for anyone else according to him.

@@michellesapisces8349 as a previous preschool teacher, many owners are greedy. There is also a lack of great teachers who are caring and patient with the children. I would never put my child in a daycare or preschool. Plus the high fees for the children never trickle down to the workers.

That is correct, my parents didnt put me on daycare too so why would i put my kids on it? Dosent make any sense id rather make my wife work as part time so she can spend more on my kid.

This I'm surprised I'm not seeing it more. My wife is a speech therapist and it makes better financial sense for her to stay home with the kids, and its better for the kids. They are Leaps and Bounds ahead of their peers in so many ways.

They are obviously not financially ready to own a home either, but they have told us they're still happy, and they did not want to wait to have children. Indeed, for some, owning a home may never be a possibility. Owning a home does not determine the quality of life of someone or their children. That's a lie of our American society. It's better to live in an apartment and be smart with one's finances than to struggle to survive under a mortgage that makes a family house poor.

Somehow people in countries much poorer than ours figure out how to make ends meet and still live happy and fulfilling lives.

There is a severe shortage of people willing to work in child daycare. I doubt raising the number of kids they can be responsible for will help matters.

That's ridiculous. People in much poorer countries than ours seem to be able to make it work. Maybe it's because people in our country think that you need to live in a 3000 sf home and go to disney world twice a year. Maybe it's because people in our country aren't willing to make sacrifices for their children.

We have 4 under 5 and it’s a struggle. Fortunately I work from home and my mother in law has helped a lot, but if I had to physically be at work, it would easily cost us close to $6,000 a month. Would be cheaper to send them to state college

I think he is just tired of the job. It mostly the same calls all the time. People can pretty much find their answer from old videos from him at this point. I'm done watching this show after seeing this.

Once you have a baby you see how powerful the experience is. It’s natural to prioritize it even at the expense of financial hardship.

Dave can't make that decision for them and Dave also said babies are awesome. As a parent, you might have to sacrifice to provide for your children and that is something that this man and his wife will have to consider. Its up to them and God. 🤷 Not Dave. They are debt free so they are in good shape, on steps 4, 5 & 6. Sorry if i dont think there is a problem here.

It’s not exactly not being able to afford, it’s the cost associated and how it keeps going up, it doesn’t make sense to work a full week only to pay every earned penny to child care, but how would you understand if your solution would probably be “sell the kids” or “dump them somewhere”. I only mentioned relatives because that was one of their suggestions.
