@@rosspimental8384 My patients may beg to differ. It's certainly possible, but not a certainty. I'm a licensed medical professional myself, and I do pretty well for myself. I invest about 75% of my income, and still live very comfortably (yearly trips to Europe and such) on the rest. This lady does not have an income problem, she has a spending problem.

Their house is the biggest outflow of their income. She said 200k left and I am willing to bet they have a million dollar house value. They have looked at houses on the coast and for what they make and what they have now, it is more than double the cost where they want to go. It would make me think twice as well.

Unless you are a doctor have no clue what you’re talking about. The multiple vacations that we take throughout the year of her mental health, enter prevent burnout. This particular physician is in critical care which means on a daily basis. She is dealing with extremely sick and dying patients often requiring multiple rounds of CPR throughout the day, and stat intubation. People outside of the medical field do not understand what we go through and the mental drain and trauma that we deal with. The vacations that are taken or not frivolous, and for the simple fact of blowing money it’s to get your mental health back and to allow your mind to recuperate. Allow you to do your job well. It’s easy to be insensitive when you think people have an excessive amount of money. However, I can guarantee if you did for only an hour what this woman does on a daily basis, you would run away, screaming change is hard for anyone and as positions you are taught to put a lot of emphasis and time on thinking out decisions, and typically do not make abrupt/impulsive choices. This woman is doing the right thing by asking for help and getting an outside opinion.

I'm not a doctor but even I know there are ways to rewind without blowing large amounts of money. If you have the money and are in a great financial situation then blow some money and have fun but the caller was worried about dropping her salary from a ridiculous amount to a slightly less ridiculous amount. Kind of hard to take anyone serious in that situation. Anyone with half a brain would know what to do in that situation but you can't learn common sense in medical school. Some of the smartest people with the best jobs have the hardest time thinking logically sometimes

We make 120 in Canada and it is defintley a struggle. Old cars paid for in cash . The main high costs are the mortgage, house insurance, property taxes and groceries. Also because hubby's job takes $700 a month for retirement and it isn't optional.

I guarantee you, with over 140k, your are ok in Alberta. Maybe move somewhere else less pricey like Alberta or even Saskatchewan (quite cheap and better wages than Ontario)

In my city, market rents have gone up nearly 32% in a year and they likely won't go down any time soon. I've been in my current apartment for 13 years, which is rent controlled - this gives my landlord a huge incentive to try to get me out so they can raise the rent. If I need to find a new place, my rent would immediately be doubled, if not tripled. I would also need to start paying utilities because nothing is inclusive in today's world. We have a huge housing crisis in this province and competition is severe so I would also face the barrier of not having a good credit score because I haven't used credit in decades and I'm effectively 'credit invisible' at this moment. It would actually be a HUGE mess if my landlord is successful in evicting me (and it wouldn't be because of rent arrears).

I've heard that there is an actual correlation between your wealth and how you view yourself. You're always comparing yourself to others who have more than you. When you have more, you tend to be in areas of people like you. It also gets to a point where you just have so much money that the psychology of it can make you see people as "less than." Not saying all people are like that to be clear.

I think Ken is right and it’s not really about the finnces as much. A job you love as a doctor is hard to come by. A house you love, your neighborhood, friends, community. I agree with him that it’s much more about those things than the money.

I don't think her reason is "health issues", it's climate. This is why she's hemming and hawing a little bit here. She's only been here for 3 years. I've made it so far. Her accent at that point is sounds Minnesota, Michigan, North Dakota, maybe even canadian, listen to it closely.
